I don't think it's that expensive...

But then again I saw no problem with 599 PS3 at launch and if it was up to me the Bone and PS4 would be around that price with better components so I guess I'm the exception...

People also acting like tons of people don't buy multi-thousand dollar TVs with fancy new 3D and curves. People also need to pay hundreds of dollars in addition to actually watch anything (if you're getting cable or a player and buying discs).

The price point is fine, it just needs content.

SO why in gods name wouldn't you wait a year and hope for a price drop and more content?

It's like buying a new console when the only game you're remotely interested in is Madden, and you can still get madden for the console you already own.

Too bad they didn't learn from $10k-30k plasma & lcd TVs. If only those were priced accordingly, we'd all have flat screens today...just imagine!

Cutting edge tech is rarely priced for mass adoption. People that expect something that has taken so much r&d along with reasonably expensive components to be cheap are delusional.

Well if VR had any chance it's mostly had it now.

And if Sony is anywhere near this price you might as well kiss VR goodbye.

It was nice knowing you.

I'm thinking that they're playing up how expensive the thing is, so that $399 will sound like a massive bargain.

Then again, I said the same about PS3, and we got 599.

Was hoping around four to five hundred. Besides the fact that I'd have to spend around 700 for the rift I would need to buy a graphics card as well. No thanks :( hopefully Sony's offering is about $100 cheaper.

Not buying a first generation VR device for that price. VR seems like the kind of technology that will start advancing quite rapidly once its actually being sold. 4K phone screens already exist, and its only a matter of time before they reach 120hz.

If Sony prices it more than than PS4 it's going to do worse than the Rift does by a large margin. Most consumers won't by a peripheral more expensive than the console itself.

There's no way in hell Sony is delusional enough to believe the PSVR is going to market to "most" PS4 consumers. It's for the niche and they hope enough enthusiasts will jump on that eventually when they can decrease the price with the PS5 the masses can be convinced to get in as well. You guys are just setting yourselves up for disappointment at 299 or 399, or going by the logic that it cant be more than the console, under 249?? No. Way. In. Hell.

That breakout box will be like 150 by itself.

With taxes and shipping, this is around 1000$ CAN.

This is not going to sell in Canada at all. We were supposed to mock the old thousand dollars HMD, not to be another one.

€699 in Denmark without shipping. Way too expensive. It's gonna need some absurd killer app titles before I'd consider paying that.

I still remember the last 2 overpriced video game devices that were expected to take me into the future.

LOOK AT IT! IT HAS TWO FUCKING D-PADS!

Anyone even able to find a GB store? I can't seem to find any way to see how much they'd expect in GBP and going by other prices I'm guessing it won't be a straight conversion.

I'm calling $400 for PSVR. The only question is do they charge for all the peripherals needed for it.

They have to right? Although with PS4 being Sony's crown jewel right now maybe they play it smart and undercut Oculus. A $700 PS4/PSVR bundle will beat a $600 oculus for anybody that doesn't already have a gaming PC and wants VR.

$599 is pretty disappointing. I remember before the kickstarter, before there was even a name, when it was just an idea he was floating around on the MTBS3D forums. People kept trying to push Palmer to include more features and more advanced tech even if it meant increasing the price but he wouldn't do it. The whole point from the beginning was to make a quality VR headset that was easy and accessible. $599 isn't. It's kind of sad to see. The tech advances were going to happen either way. Considering the price is supposed to be subsidized all they've really done is put out another VR headset at the same price point he said was too high for widespread adoption.

You guys are freaking out too much. It's like the first gem of HDTVs.

That tech turned out pretty okay too.

All those articles stating you could reserve it now and pay later were bullshit, the website was wanting to charge me $920AUD now which I am short. Vive it is.
