700€ is too high. My upper limit was 500€. It's an impressive piece of technology but I'm just not willing to pay 700 for it.

Got march too. But I got an error when I tried to get in line for Touch. And I haven't got an e-mail confirmation yet :/

Too much for me considering I'd also have to upgrade my PC.

Not surprised by the price, though. It's that early adopter price tag. They're not going for total world domination this year.

Yeah, I think i'll just wait for gen 2/3 and the next gen video card drivers that have VR optimization in mind. Hopefully stuff people make in 2016 make 2017/2018 even sweeter for VR

And everyone is going to rush out to buy these, plus build a rig that can use it? Nope. Morpheus is the only one I can see taking off to any real degree, depending on the price of course.

€699 here in Ireland.

I'm tempted to hope there'll be prompt price cuts if demand falls well short of expectations, but OTOH, it's possible Oculus/FB are bracing themselves for a long slow adoption curve. Where that would leave content devs I'm not sure though.

I've been clicking the button to confirm my order for 20 minutes now but I just keep getting a stupid error.

Put my card back in wallet. Done with this shit.

Yeah, no. I'm pretty much a VR fanatic and I was ready to purchase it at a moment's notice. I was looking at the countdown for the last five minutes, for crying out loud. But I cannot justify that price, more considering that for my country it's 700€ plus shipping. It's a "pass" from me.

I'm going to come off as dramatic, but I'm literally I'm on the verge of tears for the disappointment. But I cannot justify doshing 800€ on a VR headset, not to my wife nor to myself. I would have begrudgingly gone up to 500€, but that's my limit.

Well, I'm getting tired of the errors to get my order through. It's like a higher power is trying to stop me from buying this for a big reason.

I thought I was the only one but I have tried like 15 times with different cards and number and it keeps telling me an error has occurred.

Has anyone been able to pre-order?

He's insisting that it's a grand. Is the 781 including shipping taxes and all that?

Either way, don't really care too much. It's way way way too expensive for me atm.

$649 for rift and $132 for shipping, someone else just said it was $920au ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wow, I guess I was way too optimistic with my guess earlier this morning. As someone with no current interest in VR, this seems way to steep to me to be a breakout hit.

The ball is now in Sony and HTC/Valve's court. I now expect PSVR to be significantly less (~$400), and I wouldn't be surprised if the Rift comes in cheaper as well.

Preorder numbers and initial sales will be very interesting to watch.

$400 PSVR (headset only)
$600 OR
$800 Vive

My guess

Ugh, there's nothing I fucking hate more than when I miss out on the first round of something because of website errors.

Maybe enough people will cancel their preorders to move me up.

There will be a lot of remorse and a lot of people who realize they can't use the thing because of their rig.

Nobody ruins my family vacation but me...and maybe the boy!
As I said in the other thread, almost $1000 CAD taxes in is just ridiculous, that's more than half the cost of my PC.

Maybe I'm underselling it and the consumer version is the best thing since sliced bread, but on a superficial level I don't see this thing taking off at that price.

Vive doesn't have Facebook behind it, and it has more complex tech, no? By all means, it should cost more. I expect PSVR to be cheaper, but because its tech will probably be the least advanced.

Which is the right approach if you really want something to take off.

The proper balance between power and price is key, much like what Sony did with PS4.

$599. Not cheap at all. Reminds me of the PS3 launch price heh and you know how much of a clusterfuck that was.
At checkout, it has limit 1 per customer. Really doubt anyone is gonna buy two of these. Pretty much sent out to die.

I'm calling $400 for PSVR. The only question is do they charge for all the peripherals needed for it.

What does it require, a Playstation Camera and Move Controllers? I don't see the VR headset (which has separate box for power and processing), Playstation Camera and Move Controllers coming in at $400. I haven't followed PSVR as closely as Oculus Rift, but have the demos required those peripherals (particularly the move controllers) - or have a lot of them been using only the dualshock controller?

500 was the absolute most I was willing to part ways with, anything more and I can't justify the purchase. Guess I'll see what Sony does with their VR. No doubt it will be cheaper.

Mmmh, even if I can pay that price it's not worth it IMO, specially because I already have pads, I don't want to pay extra, and the games doesn't appeal to me, I'll prefer to chose my own.

I'll wait for Vive or PS VR.

I was never convinced by oculus since I saw the Vive anyway.

I had my wallet ready until the announcement. PSVR makes way more sense at this point even if it is $500 which is pricey but it's also optimized for a system that I own and won't need upgrades.

Are you kidding? Vive's tech is probably going to cost more than the Rift, even without the tie-ins. Expect $800-900.

PSVR requires an EXTERNAL processing box and methinks that will not be cheap either. It'll probably be in the $500-600 range too unless Sony decides to subsidize the hardware - why bother with that in the first year or so though?

Why bother with tihat?

Because all of these companies surely want VR to "take off" and not just be a fad/flash in the bucket like it was in the 80's/early 90's.

When you price this kind of thing out of most "normal" peoples price range you are REALLY setting a biarrier to entry.

Would have been far faaaaaaaar wiser for all of these VR companies to eat part of the cost and make their profit on the software side and to help ensure a good adoption rate.

300 give or take a bit would have been a sweet spot that many people would have jumped on board.

600? That makes many people take a "wait and see" approach, as you can gather from many comments in this very thread.

A high barrier to entry like this is the quickest way to ensure VR stays a niche market.

I'm building my first PC in the spring. Set my limit to £900 which will allow me to build something pretty beast, but fuck if I'm going to splash out another £500 on Oculus. Your move, Sony.

Looking forward to seeing the PSVR price further crush the delusions of people who thought VR would be a mass-market success anytime soon.

it'll be niche even at "only" $300

This here is the problem. This is only going to sell to enthusiasts who already own the necessary hardware. Even if PSVR is say, $300, you're still going to have to pay a further $349 if you don't own a PS4 already. It's nowhere near as bad as Oculus, but still bad.

I'm looking forward to VR, but I think gamers have been so delusional as to how much mass appeal it really has.

Hopefully Vive will put some pressure on them and they will have a cheaper version later without all the bundled stuff (case, games, xbox controller).
