Sonic 06 is 10 Years Old this Year

Sonic 06 is a bad game, but it's a bad game with charm. It's kind of like watching the movie The Room. Behind the loading screens, glitches, etc was a game that has some pretty good music, some pretty cool environments, a lot of things right in a bad overall package. Gameplay was awful though, no question.

I regret not making a thread about Sonic Rush when that was 10 years old. That's a game that deserves recognition. Of course, Sonic 06 does too. Without it we would have never had all the hilarious letsplays

I remember a forum I went to way back then was flooded with "SONIC DIES" threads when the game came out, as well as people countering those threads with threads of their own like a continuous argument through thread titles. Also a bunch of "SONIC GETS KISSED" threads and jokes about "finally they kill 3D Sonic".

Good times.

In all seriousness the game isn't anywhere near as bad as people make it out to be. I didn't play it until years later and I thought it was going to be one of the worst games ever or something. It's really not. It's perfectly playable. It's not good, but it's playable and doesn't live up to the legend people make it out to be. Hell, I even finished it. I've played supposedly good games that didn't provide me with enough incentive to do that. A big thing about 06 for me was "Well the Superman 64 tier shit must still be coming. I'll keep going until I get there"

It never came. It stayed the not very good but not THAT bad mostly throughout. Very similar to Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness in that regard. The game disappointed me. It's overrated in terms of its badness.

How could anyone hate a game that has Silver getting roundhouse kicked in the back of the head by Poochie the Hedgehog?

For educational purposes, this game is required reading.

And lol at people thinking Sonic Adventure is as bad as 06.

Despite the bad reputation games like Sonic 2006 and Shadow the hedgehog have, both were million seller.
Never underestimate the Sonic fanbase.

Never played the game, I waited for all of the other bad sonic games instead. I still get kind of annoyed every time I see Silver. Like he's in Sonic's Smash Bros stage? wtf

Reading the OP I'm more blown away by how old Blaze is.

I've never played this game but I've watched two LPs of it (pokecapn's and slowbeef's) and they were both hilarious.

One time a girl in highschool told me she loved this game and was playing through it. I was so astounded by this I spoiled her the entire ending. I don't regret this.

I remember controlling this game for a total of 20 seconds in gamestop and just said out loud "nope. no way. shit don't even feel right"

This dude is pretty much our savior. Gistix and team are porting/recrating Sonic 06 to PC using Unity engine. They plan implementing some fixes and things that were in the beta while using the new engine to improve the looks a bit graphically.

Surprised no one ever made a thread towards it. Guess this game sucked that hard for many folks.

Yeah, I don't think anyone was honestly asking for a remaster. This game is condemned.

It's the proto Undertale.

The demo was better than the final game, because it only consisted of a reasonably-sized Sonic portion without a highspeed section. Still have it on my 360.

I've finally completed Sonic 2006 in 2014 (meaning all Achievements) and had it since a week before release (review copy). I was super pumped for it and was incredibly let down when I finally got to play it. It was one of two reasons for me to buy a 360 at launch (the other being Kameo, which was worth it) and I was never let down this much. It certainly beats my disappointment with Yoshi's Story, which was my biggest one up until then.

The demo was actually from a newer build than the final game - someone was in the process of porting over the final assets to the demo 'engine' a few years ago.

When the 360 was coming out. This was the game I was constantly watching videos for on gamespot. i wanted to have this game so friggen badly. Eventually some time in 2008 two years after I got my 360 I bought the game knowing full well it was bad after the reviews and what not...i beat it to completion but at what cost? Seriously fuck that broken non responsive snow boarding segment

Me and a friend of mine literally bought this game yesterday and I haven't touched it since 2006, and it's much much worse than I originally thought.

That shouldn't mean that Sega should forget either, they should be taking notes, getting their priorities straight and making a good game... as long as the next Sonic game isn't infuriatingly shit, I am fine.

I have odd thoughts about this game. Not only did I beat it, I did so on a TV that was breaking at the time, so sometimes the image would warp outside the screen and stay that way for awhile. The game is bad...but I feel that with some more polish, it could've been a good game.

I liked it a lot, it really felt like an Adventure 1 styled game with a ton of substance, which is my favorite.kind of Sonic game. Only recently got a PAL copy so that I can finally play the DLC (100%ed it on NTSC).

What? It's the E3 demo, I think it was even released at E3 time back then. How can it be from a newer build?

I cannot understand she loved it, but that certainly is no reason to be such an asshole.

I really enjoyed Hellfire comma and the recent Retsupurae lps.

Really wish grumps would have finished it, like it bugs me that they hardly finish anything, but they were so close with sonic 06.

I remember seeing the original tech demo videos with the day/night systems and the initial batch of concept images and being hyped as fuck.

And then it turned to shit.

It's been mentioned to death by numerous posters, but I also have to acknowledge the pokecapn LP. Going to have to have that as background noise once AGDQ wraps up.

I managed to rope one of my friends into trying the multiplayer mode with me and shit was broken. You know how Silver can loop Sonic into the infinite damage and recovery animations? Imagine a player having that control. We spawned into the level and my friend, playing Silver, IMMEDIATELY pulled that shit.

Ah yes, who could forget this thread...

Having said that... there's something about this game. I'm not sure what it is. Charm? Maybe that's the word. Maybe not. For some reason, I still want to play this game. I want to finish the whole thing. I want to see just how far the rabbit hole goes. I get a sense of excitement while playing. Between the loading times and losing progress, this game is... fun. And to be honest, well...

I can't say the same thing about Sonic Unleashed, or Colors.

So, I guess I'm the only one who really liked the game? I thought the story was cool more or less, with that weird time travelling and the bittersweet ending.

However, I was very young when I played it and probably I didn't notice all the flaws that the game had. Just in case I won't play it never again.

No, replay it and realize just how dumb you were.

If you think bestiality was like the greatest thing for you sure the story was cool more or less.

Game Grumps' Sonic The Hedgehog play is a legend, and yet it ended pre-maturely when Jon and Arin split, so even in giving us something great it still enrages me. Fuck Sonic '06.

Eh, it's actually one of the less enjoyable Sonic 06 LPs, outside of Arin's rant at the Knuckles climbing glitch.

Their usual meandering-improv style of commentary really took the focus away from the game's hilariously low quality(i.e. the only thing that makes it worth watching).
