love this scene so much when 1st watching it
(because it's on a climax moment)

I think that is the best part of it , is basically the "shit get real" moment of the game and they no give any fucks.

But jokes aside i would love a "clean" version of the song , the voices works so well and the animation is great.

Hey, they did something right. Amazon (Japan) has somehow managed to have #FE at 4.0+ stars (a good hundred+ ratings too, so its not a sparsity of samples), which is about as high as a rating you'll find on amazon (unless you are Bayonetta 2, rocking that 4.5+).

A little good news, right? (Don't look at the massive discounts already being applied.)

Its certainly nice to see. Especially considering the reputation of Amazon Japan user reviews. I think in the end the game is going to be viewed as a great little gem well received by those that played it and gave it a chance. Seems to be the case since pretty much everyone Ive heard thats played it likes it. Its a shame that there is so much negativity toward it particularly by those that haven't even played it over its themes or the perception of the themes in the game and all. But what can you do? You can't make everyone like the Japanese entreatment world or make them interested in a game that takes place in it.

Im just happy to see people are trying out the game and liking it. I love it! Its becoming one of my favourite 2015 games for sure. And although I am a fan of Japanese pop culture and the Japanese entertainment world as well, even if I wasn't I still would love this game. Im glad they tried something different and made the game they did. But its certainly a shame it hasn't found a bigger audience.

Well you could join me in the hopeless fight and try to fix the perception in that other thread. It's something ugly alright.

Oh I've thought about it but reading that thread has been frustrating. Its like no matter what you say their minds have been made up that the game is an abomination to the world. Yesterdays back and forth arguments over the gravure idol stuff and all was so silly. I'm surprised people were surprised it was in the game. And many people in the thread were talking about how they know so much about Japanese pop culture but they would be like "I don't know anything about that" when they were challenged on it. So yeah trying real hard to stay away from that thread as it feels like a trap.

But yeah I really hope many of those that have been critical of the game from the outside can have an open mind about the game and at least try it. The fact that its different and fun really is a positive for it. If only people could get their minds off of the game that they never saw and try the game that exists. And its all due to a trailer that showed nothing but character portraits and a title 3 years ago. No gameplay, or anything, just that. Got peoples dreams up and they can't break them. A shame, but at least those of us who are playing it like it.

To be fair, it's extremely hard to move away from what you once expected and start accepting what the end result was. Especially when this was introduced and hyped as a crossover between SMT and Fire Emblem. It's understandable why people are discouraged from the direction that the end product went through. This isn't the first game to go through that, and will not be the last game to go through it. A good example is Wind Waker. People couldn't get over that the art style was cartoony and ignored what was (at the time) a hidden gem. Today, some people still hate that it wasn't like the Zelda Tech demo, but others are starting to recognize what they missed out on. It may be a long time before #FE reaches that kind of recognition, especially when the Japanese references and cultures still carry a certain kind of stigma and perception of strageness to the majority of the Western world. Hell, who knows if this even gets a shred of recognition?

It's not the best reason to dislike something, but a dislike is a dislike at the end of the day. Not everyone is going to like and enjoy certain things.

Yes, I totally agree. It is in no way you can change one's perception day and night as this sentiment and disdain towards Japanese animes and Otaku culture by the majority in the western world is deep-rooted. A few years ago when I first join some western forums, I was surprised by the hostility towards animes and anything that related to it. This is such a big difference to the esatern world where many people are heavily influenced by Japanese media and most people from forums are interested and mildly optimistic towards #FE before it is released. Japan's entertainment industry is a thing we get in touch with every day, and as a person who are quite familiar with Japan's thing is very excited to see what this game could deliver. I hope more people on GAF can be more open-minded and try to accept a foreign culture.

You know after playing if and #FE, I'm secretly hoping that Atlus and IntSys does a developer blog post explaining how everything in #FE is canon in the FE Universe, especially considering how both companies love to make all their universe shit canon. Like with Persona Q and Fire Emblem. ESPECIALLY after the hilarious bullshit that was in If.

From this point on it's all speculation and my own fantasy of how hilarious it would be if they justified putting all this in the Fire Emblem timeline.

Since #FE uses characters from Akaneia and Ylisse because they're the same exact continent/country, just separated from a few centuries, I'm hoping that the developers reveal that #FE's setting is really just Akaneia/Ylisse thousands of years later and that the Mirages, the reincarnations of the past heroes in Fire Emblem, are really real and were reincarnated into the Idolasphere through the power of the Fire Emblem and Goddess Dragons.

So after the events of Fire Emblem Awakening and If, a tragedy occurs which kills Naga and forces Tiki to seal all the past heroes of Fire Emblem to be sealed in the Soul Talismans found in FE:A and create a new realm called the Idolasphere with the Fire Emblem in order to preserve their legacy. After using so much of her power, Tiki would revert to a weakened, younger state. After the tragedy, human civilization would advance and see the soul talismans and revere the heroes of Fire Emblem as gods and myth similar to Greek Mythology. They would celebrate these heroes through art and performance.

As human civilization advances, humans begin to lose faith and forget about the legend of the Fire Emblem but their influence is still seen in society, such as the Fire Emblem being the crest for the school that Itsuki/Tsubasa/Eleonora go to. We fast forward to today where society knows of the lingering influences of the Fire Emblem world but also of other idols and legends such as the demons of the MegaTen universe.

In #FE's world we would see that Tiki's seal on the idolasphere gradually weakens and breaks due to the (spoiler)
Mediuth
Earth Dragon influence and Tiki would undo the seals on the Soul Talismans, effectively reincarnating the heroes of Akaneia/Ylisse into their modern forms. Evil corrupts some Mirage but many retain their forms seeking for Performa and human worship as idols. Their affinity and transformation is due to the thousands of years stuck in their Soul Talismans and revered through art and performance, thus why their Mirage forms require so much Performa. Humans with a high affinity are able to see and interact with the heroes of past, as a result of their belief and affinity with the arts.

The main plot of #FE happens.

All is well and through the power gained in the final battle modern day Tokyo/Akaneia/Ylisse enjoys temporary peace.

I hope the next Fire Emblem game ties in FE1/3/11/12/#FE.

Cue sequel for #FE taking place in like Paris or Hollywood with a new set of Fire Emblem cast.

I'm pretty sure Intelligent System's explanation will be a simple, "This game takes place in another Outrealms, because that's our "Get out of jail free card" in terms of story telling"

There is something, I would say, that is totally not my style about this game, but that's my problem.
Still, there's something about it that I just have to find out about myself, and it's got me. I'm totally buying it when it comes state-side.

That they've abused in Awakening and Fates having playing avatars already.

It's not the best reason to dislike something, but a dislike is a dislike at the end of the day. Not everyone is going to like and enjoy certain things.

Oh I agree, no one will ever like everything, and people will disagree on things like this always. Especially when it comes to video games. The Wind Waker is a great example of that, and also a great example of the pettiness we all tend to have in disagreement with something or another especially in a games presentation.

And you know what, I know how those gamers might feel. I remember when the real #FE was finally shown off and we got our real first look at what the game was and even I was a bit surprised at the direction. Thankfully within a few seconds I also went, "You know what, I like this, Ill try it out." But not everyone will be like that. Im the type of person who finds good things in just about every game, and also someone who lives in Japan and understands and experiences the things that is shown in the game. To me its not strange, just normal. But of course, one has to remember that is not the same for most people out there, especially here on neogaf.

To be honest I think the game will have a really hard time catching on even with some niche groups in the west due to the games themes and the way they are perceived in the west. The usual, everything is strange and different Japan angle constantly thrown out by critics of the game and such will be hard to not take in account for some. And of course there are the things many in the west no longer stands for much, as we've seen in the whole gravure debate. Its going to be a hard sale getting people to try this game. Im very interested in how it all ends up being localised. I can imagine its going to be quite tricky. It would be really interesting to play the western version of the game and see what if anything is changed.

Still even though its understandable about peoples disappointments about what they had hoped it was, or their not liking certain things the game represents, I really wish more people would have open minds and try games out rather than just scream "THIS SUCKS THIS IS SHIT THIS ISNT WHAT I WANTED" all over. People might find some great games they never thought of playing. But like it was said before, it happened with Wind Waker, its happening with #fe and it will happen again with another game.

My major problem with this game is I think the two ips are horrific for a crossover.

As a Fire Emblem fan I would have begged for a warriors or romance/nobunaga ambition of Fire Emblem. (I would murder somebody to have a game like that take place in Jugdral).

I'm not as a big of a fan of the persona/smt games that I've played but fire Emblem would have been the last ip I would have asked for a xover as I think Devil Survivor fills that void.

I'm cool with the present game though but it really is stillborn.

I gotta say, when they announced it I was both excited and confounded. I was like "This is cool, but huh?" I love both franchises too and it seemed such a strange combination. For me the whole time before the #FE reveal I kept thinking, how in the heck are they going to do this? What direction can they really take. In the end, I think they took the most interesting direction they could, even if it alienated so many of the fans in the end. Im glad they took a chance and made something a little more unique, but sad its not getting the success it should.

But wow a Fire Emblem/Nobunaga Ambition or ROTK would be cool. If Yokai Watch could get such a collaboration, Fire Emblem could too I bet. Nintendo should make it so!

pretty much where I've been at for a while. fuck the sales, honestly. I'm glad once in a while creators can still just go crazy and make whatever ridiculous idea pops into their heads without having to get by on an indie's budget. as a fan of games, I'm a fan of this game. the same was true for The Wonderful 101. I think Nintendo should be applauded for letting creative people be creative.

the one thing it's sadly missing is an Iwata Asks. Damn it would have been a good one.

Pokemon and Zelda got the two perfect xovers for Fire Emblem.

But yeah while I do respect the creativity ... They really made this game to japanese-centric taking pop culture into consideration. Since Awakening was a smash hit internationally I do think they should have given the game a theme so utterly reliant on that pop culture.

Exactly! I know sales are important and all of course, but I really put them so low on my care list. I applaud companies that take chances, do crazy things, and make games that will excite me and bring me something special. Glad they got to do that here, and just wish they could've gotten more success.

And yeah the lack of Iwata asks is quite sad. It would've been so wonderful to have that for this game. Heck one thing Ive seen so little of here is any advertising for the game. I've see no commercials at all, but plenty for Mario Maker and Splatoon. Its like the game was just quietly released and all, especially considering its Saturday release date. I didnt even see the games guides at the local bookstore this week, and they always have the newest game guides in stock day 1.

I definitely understand that. We are already seeing how its effected the perception of the game for sure. It was certainly a gamble, that hasn't paid off for everyone sadly. Its going to be very interesting how it will be received once its in western gamers hands. Hopefully though people will try it and all.

A tweet about some supposed #FE CD that's supposed to be releasing on February 10, 2016.

I haven't heard anything about that and I can't find anything else other than that tweet, either.
found other tweets about that CD but yeah still couldn't find the original source of it

1st tweet mentioned 18 songs, matched with the total in-game (either they only include 1 version of dear majo or both versions are still in but still considered as 1 song)

Still not sure where this originally came from, but now the info about "Fortuna All Stars" is out there.

depends... most of the time songs in vocal collection cd will be full versions, but who knows if some of the songs are really short in the 1st place

For those playing the game, and maybe those who have followed it, would you like to post a single summary of your thoughts and feelings on the overall product. The RPG aspects, story, everything.

I might add a section in the OP so that there is a single place to read all final thoughts by different user.

I've mostly just seen banners and posters by buildings and in front of stores like yodo and sofmap.

There were web CMs, yes there isn't a huge amount of advertising other than the ones I post here and have seen. There is still a dozen fortissimo at sofmap but the wii u bundles are mostly gone from the yodo.

I am very glad that the people behind the game the developers were able to successfully accomplish and realize the vision they have for the game. They were allowed to create what they wanted and put a lot of heart into it and whether or not we enjoy it is up to the consumer, but those who do enjoy it I think should give the game positive word of mouth because it deserves the praise it has received so far.

In terms of crossover I honestly had no idea what to expect when I saw it in 2013, when I heard Yamagami's vision for the game I immediate thought something more like Devil Survivor, literally with a pegasus flying down Shibuya. When I saw the actual reveal with Tsubasa and Sheeda I was wondering what this was then I realized it and was very very happy with what I saw, especially when they showed gameplay very soon after. They literally took what Yamagami said and made it actually happen and each blog post about the game on Nintendo's website until release made me smile more and excite about the final product.

I do agree with draxal that the franchises are not the most compatible but they did very well with what they wanted. I would like for Fire Emblem to expand as a franchise with more collaboration into different genres to expand on the opportunities it finally gets now that Narihiro realized advertising and budget is extremely important. I'm still irritated about Narihiro's questionable decisions throughout his career in terms of budgeting and release but baby steps.

That's the dealbreaker for me. If they're the 1:30/short versions = Nope D: I'll stick to my vocal selections CD XD

It should be long version since some song already have a long version. The only song I could really see with a short version is probably Dear Majo Sweet.
I am so glad Yoshino Nanjo had a lot of work in this game it makes me happy because I enjoy her role in this game.

Oh yeah I would expect such ads at those stores. Sadly nothing out in the country where I'm at of course. Still surprised Nintendo didn't make a tv ad for the game. They almost always do.

As for my summary, Im only up to chapter 2 but so far I can say this. My expectations for the game have been surpassed. I love the setting, modern Tokyo is always a fun place to play in in a game world. The story so far has been enjoyable. The Idol and entertainment world aspects of the game are fine, and I find them more enjoyable then your typical Japanese game thats focused on those worlds, like an Idolmaster for instance. Its not as dark as the past megaton titles but has that Atlus feel to it for sure. Love the characters and especially the art design to the game. And the game looks amazing in action. The battles are great, very similar to a Persona. They are fast, and enjoyable. The gimmicks are interesting too, like using the controller screen for reading phone texts and such. But of course the music is one of its best aspects. Love all the songs Ive heard so far, especially "Reincarnation." "Feel" is a great song too. Really enjoying the game, its fun, unique, has great music, some good laughs, and just a wonderful title for sure. Very happy with it.

Here are some of my general thoughts on the game. Overall, I didn't enjoy the game as much as others. Sorry if it is somewhat incoherent.
The story is pretty bad. The writing is not great. It reminds me of FE:Awakening or FE:If. The humour is fine, and I enjoyed some parts, but the rest is disappointing. The plot doesn't make much sense, nor do I really understand the motives of many of the characters, and the ending itself was rather bad. But I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't write anything more.

The characters themselves are pretty good (except for Itsuki), but they don't really get any chance to shine outside of their side stories. At least half of the dungeons in the game kind of revolve around Tsubasa. Compare that to a game like say, Persona 4, where each character seems to have a dungeon/story arc bit that revolves around them and develops their character. In #FE, most of the characters don't really get much character development or spotlight in the main story.

For a game supposedly about a talent agency, the talent industry, and a cast full of characters who do different things in said industry, you never actually see much of it outside of the side stories.
Itsuki is the worst for this, because he doesn't even have side stories to begin with. Each chapter begins with you (Itsuki), going to the lesson studio and doing some lessons. But you never actually see Itsuki do any kind of talent work. The most you will get is a blurb in his profile saying he did some modelling work or something. It's really shallow. Other characters aren't much better in this than Itsuki, though you will at least get to see a glimpse of their activities in their side stories.

The Fire Emblem IP doesn't really add anything to the game, and it feels really forced in the end. When playing the game, I kind of get the impression that they didn't really know what to do with the FE IP or how to integrate it in any meaningful way.

In regards to gameplay, the dungeons were varied and fun to travel through. The combat itself was fun, stringing together sessions, and stuff.
It is somewhat of a hassle to constantly travel back to the Bloom Palace to create new 'weapons' and such.
While the battles themselves can be challenging at times, equipping your characters is kind of dumbed down. You have a slot for the weapon (carnage form), an accessory, and a costume. The only thing that really matters with the weapon is the attack power and skills you will learn from it. It would've been nice if there were different kinds of builds etc you could do with gear, but ultimately the only piece of gear that really matters is the weapon.

The "Topic" system was a bit disappointing. Characters send you messages during the game, to give it a bit of extra life. The idea is cool, but the execution is rather poor. The problem is... Itsuki never replies to any body. In the main story and side story chat, he will occasional reply (often with just a, 'ok' 'sure' etc) but in the user to user chat he never replies. Eleonora, Mamori, Kiria, etc. They constantly send him messages throughout the entire game, and he never acknowledges any of them. They are basically talking to themselves. It's weird.

The music was pretty good for the most part. There were a few tracks that reminded me of SMT. The more pop/idol/etc songs, you'll either like them or you won't. Depends if you like that kind of music, but either way, that's not the music you hear for the majority of the game.

I would not recommend this game to someone who wants an RPG with a strong narrative, but if someone just wants a dungeon crawler with a lighthearted story, then I might recommend it to them.

Oh no, Goodman is Sadman desu! ! ! J/k

It kind of echoes what I said of my brief impressions even up to this point. The story is nothing to write home about, but it does get the job done. And as mentioned earlier when I expressed my disappointment about the sidestories, the characters themselves are actually great. But sadly, not too much spotlight on them, it certainly is the Tsubasa show. Although, they do show her going thru the paces at least in different parts. So there's some fun variety in that as we get a glimpse of the various gigs.

Equipment may be pretty dumbed down, although I kind of imagine, because it is FE gear, it might be because that's the only piece of equipment you ever use in FE anyway. So it is limiting, but I could see why they did it.

Are loading times really that bad in the physical version?
I'm thinking about grabbing the game, but spending 6k without the ability to sell it back just to have decent loading times is the reason why I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet.

Its really not that bad at all. It would be nice if the battles loaded just a little faster but honestly I never really have had any problems with it and I didn't even think about it at all until I read some here had issues with it.

Yeah, I saw that video when it was released, but looking at loading time without any context is a bit different than experiencing them in game. For example longer battle/map switch loading times don't really matter if they don't happen often.

Lots and lots of battle. It's lots of dungeon crawling. Personally, the load times grew on me

I think I will too.

Wow, awesome. Maybe Nintendo should've made some Splatoon colaborations between the two games. It would sell better, haha.

Preordering.

Getting a full version of the Fire Emblem medley from the end of the game and all the other songs is a major plus.

toi8's take on Splatoon

toi8 is a huge fan of Splatoon, he plays pretty regularly and owns merchandise for the game. I think he's done a few sketches earlier too.

Oh damn I didn't see the track list,a definitely must get.

Also, toi8 is a very talented artist. Folks hating on him in the other thread saying that Soejima is beyond him. I'd say they're equals in their own styles. SMH really.

Chain Chronicle is what made me fall in love with his art in the first place. toi8 style is pretty unique in terms of the watercolors and shading he uses. Here is his studio set up at home.

Where he does every single one of his pieces at home with his wife and I think he has like 6 cats now.

Anyway I will add impressions into the OP soon. I would like final impressions if possible and as detail as you can. Trying not to hit the character limit for the extra post I have in the OT.

I will try and post some final impressions when I can. Still got a ways to go but put in more time today. Been taking my time with the game. Love just going through the dungeons and grinding a bit, it's quite enjoyable to me to do that. Hopefully I can get through a lot this weekend.
