NeoGAF Voted: Most Anticipated Games of 2016

The best part is, a lot of these games aren't even high budget compared to the extreme bubble last gen with rocketing costs and the obsession with bigger and flashier

I really wanna know what TLG's budget is at this point, hope somebody leaks that someday.

edit because I didn't catch yours: again, for Horizon, we don't know anything about the gameplay loop. Not talking about basic gameplay mechanics there, but about the appeal of the game, progression, etc. If it was only about a team, a lot of games would deserve being up there on names alone, but it doesn't work like that. Still really cool looking game, obviously.

All it takes is a really cool looking game with an interesting premise to create anticipation sometimes. It's possible that it won't live up to the hype of course (The Order:1886 comes to mind), but it's an open world RPG with fantastic art direction. They nailed the reveal with a great trailer that mixed in some gameplay, and people bought into it. It racked up a lot of "best in show" awards, and was even the "Game of the Show" right here on NeoGAF. The game has a buttload of appeal.

According to Shu, the budget they've spent isn't astronomical because its been a back burner project by a small team for so long. But they've been spending more when they pushed it to priority status

Who would have thought ten years ago that a main line Final Fantasy would have been #8 in a most anticipated list.

I guess I missed the thread to vote. Really surprised with some of the choices up there, especially #2. Deus Ex and Mirrors Edge are probably in my top 5.

The vertical slice shown of Catalyst looks amazing, but I really need to see more gameplay before I hype myself up any more.

Need to see like an open-world sweep or just like 10 mins of just free running around, not even any story stuff.

OMG you all! We can't wait to finish this up and release it. I know being most anticipated means a lot to the gang here. We really appreciate it!

Thanks everyone for putting this thread together and everyone who voted.

It deserves it. Especially after playing the beta. I really can't wait for UC4.

Out of the seven games that I nominated, only Fire Emblem Fates didn't crack the top 10. Gaf's got great taste confirmed.

That top 5 is rock solid. 2016 is going to burn the biggest hole in my wallet.

Edit: Since what Kagamin did up there^ looked like fun.

1) Uncharted 4 > #1
2) Mass Effect: Andromeda > #6
3) The Last Guardian > #7
4) Dark Souls 3 > #5
5) Fire Emblem Fates > #16
6) Persona 5 > #2
7) Horizon > #3

Uggh NO stop it with this bullshit. If you don't agree with the ranking personally that's fine but that doesn't mean you can just mope around accusing everybody else of bias for not liking the games you like. That shit is UNACCEPTABLE. STOP. You wanna know the real reason Quantum Break didn't rank highly? Here it is:

....I accused what?

I don't think it's an accusation of bias per say. But I think people only voted for games they expect to play, and I'd wager there are far fewer xb1 owners than ps4 and PC owners on GAF. There may even be more WiiU owners, frankly. So of course the xb1 exclusives aren't going to perform as well on these things. The best example is probably rise of the tomb raider. In 2013 it was 8th on Gaf's game of the year list. This year, despite consensus from basically everyone hat RotTR is better in every game,MIT has no shot as finishing that high because not enough people played it. Yet last year a WiiU exclusive won goty. No reason to get angry, but this is why that perception exists. I'd say the majority of gaffers are PC and Sony gamers, so posts will tend to come off as more pro-PC and Sony.

You kind of answered your own question - A WiiU game won GOTY last year and there's less WiiUs out there than X1s

The likely reason that ROTTR isnt going to be talked as much in terms of GOTY is because it was released at an awful time so even people who do have an X1 very likely didn't play it, and others who do are possibly waiting on a PC or PS4 port

I forgot about Horizon Zero Dawn...I knew it be top 10, maybe even top 5...but above Zelda and Dark Souls? A Guerilla Games title?

Then I remember The Order was in the top 10 last year...the SonyGAF is strong around these parts

Gonna be hilarious when Persona 4 is doesn't come in 2016

Lovely pics, Shinobi. List looks really legit. If even 2/3rds of these actually come out this year and deliver on expectations, 2016 is gonna be a real all-time great.

.

I don't give a crap about Guerrilla games and I love Zelda, yet I voted Horizon higher than ZElda. the game looks way more promising and original.

and yes Persona 4 won't come out in 2016 :p

There are definitely more Wii U owners on GAF than Xbox One owners, which is what matters in these lists.

Anyway I would've called Fire Emblem Fates top 15 easily before voting started, but luckily for me I looked at the first few pages before claiming that :p

edit: I wonder, which voter is closest to NeoGAF's overall results? I remember the 2014 GOTY results having that, with the affinity recommendations or whatever

I'm slightly surprised that Fable Legends never made the top 260!
It's multiplayer focused, f2p and online only. Neogaf is probably not the game's target audience.

Still... I'm a bit surprised as well. Feels validating to not be alone in my disinterest towards the game, though.

It clinched the #16 spot. It's not like your prediction would be that far off.

I'm probably reading too much into it, but it's funny to see Dark Souls 2 on 2nd place in 2014, Bloodborne on 4th (2015) and now Dark Souls 3 down to 5th place for this year.

franchise fatigue?

2014 competition was pretty weak, plus it was the sequel to Dark Souls, which everybody loved.

2015 comp was stiffer. UC4 has a HUGE fanbase here, as seen by its back-to-back wins. Hell, it actually increased its point total by several hundred this year! Close to UC4 was MGS5, again, a more bigger, more popular franchise here on GAF, the final MGS game and it looked amazing as shit. Then there's Zelda, which...its point total was very close to? Zelda had 1472 points, Bloodborne had 1464 points. So they were basically tied for second. Not bad for a niche hardcore action rpg. Dark Souls 3/Zelda were basically the same again this year, 1,678 vs 1,666. So its stayed pretty consistent...its just it got more highly anticipated titles ahead of it. UC4 again, Persona 5 hype has grown every single time it shows up on this list, and Horizon: Zero Dawn was GAF's E3 Game of the Show.

Bloodborne is the favorite to win GAF's GOTY, and the top 5 placement doesn't seem to hint at a lot of franchise fatigue, even in a stacked lookin year like this.
