If you mean mechanically: It's a reskin of Vampire (which was basically Blue Mage), since that Job isn't available anymore due to plot events in Bravely Default. I have no idea why they decided on cat master (or vampire for that matter) to fill the role of Blue Mage.

I can kind of see Vampire being a blue mage because I guess you can kind of draw an analogy between stealing monster abilities and the supernatural talents of vampiric lore.


But Catmancer is just like...there's really no way to spin that.

Those complaints are super nit picky, and even the end of the article says they reflect minor issues. Also, complaints about dialogue and pop culture references (which primary show up during tutorials) can easily be addressed through localization.

This game doesn't stray to far from the first, and honestly as a direct sequel set a few after the events of the first game and with reoccurring characters it doesn't need to. So people looking for big changes are the ones whom are going to end up disappointed. But if ain't broke why fix it?

The only complaints I remember is that the final boss (spoiler for a gameplay mechanic used during the fight not the boss itself but some people will freak out if this isn't tagged)

breaks the 4th wall and does some crazy shit a la Eternal Darkness on GameCube

and some folks were throwing fits over it but it's an awesome fight. Way better than Ouroborros.

That would be really out of place in the setting already, but how would they localize that?

While I'm not excited for Second after not liking Default, I've learned that Japanese impressions are basically useless for me. They never ever fit my opinion of the game later. I just stopped taking them into account completely.

Exactly. I almost believed the whole shitting on Zestiria thing, but it became my favourite Tales game.
They're extremely picky and complain about the tiniest silly things.

I liked the original game quite a bit but I just kind of trailed off from playing it. I don't recall if something else came out and I dropped it or what...It happens a lot with me and RPGs. I enjoy playing them but something distracts me from it and I can't get back into it because I don't remember anything that was happening. But it was an enjoyable game and I loved the job system. I'll definitely get this game.

They cut the entire SE member thing from Bravely Default for the west. They handled the stuff that was already available at the time pretty well but we missed out on all the post-release content via it. I suspect the same thing will happen because I can't see them bothering to setup the infrastructure for it.

It sold out on Amazon in like 30 minutes. And lasted maybe a day online with Gamestop. I don't think Best Buy ever had it up for pre-order either. I remember making a mad dash to a retail Gamestop though and snagging a pre-order there. The clerk was having trouble even pulling it up on Gamestop's system and I was shitting brix standing at that counter it was intense lol

Thanks for the compilation.

The best part of Bravely Default was the gameplay. The breadth of options with jobs and meta-options with variable encounter rates made it just fun to play. Even if the writing is worse, I'll manage.

My one concern is that it seems the soundtrack is not as absolutely fantastic as the first.

While it amuses me, I have no idea how they'd even begin to describe that to the general audience in a way that makes sense without coming across as being totally hamfisted. And not explaining it would mean the class name would make no sense at all to most people.

I'm a little puzzled why they decided to change the Indian/ Native American styled Tomahawk for the Cowboy. The designs don't seem to be all that dissimilar, with only the headdress -> cowboy hat being the biggest change. She's also wearing full pants now as opposed to a loin cloth. Perhaps they just had the idea to localise her a certain way and changed her design to fit.
