Dream of one game localization no one else here would take as their pick

Metal Slader Glory, but more specifically, the Super Famicom version.

It was Nintendo's final SFC release (in 2000) and a pretty cool looking visual novel about mechs and stuff.

My second choice would be the port of the original Oreshika on PSP. That one could still happen I guess, but it's not very likely.

Oh man there's just too many ughhhhhh
But I'll give two seperate games though.

Modern - Students of the Round. I seriously hope Gaijinworks picks this up since there's no Class of Heroes games left to localize.
Retro - G.O.D. Pure - A Playstation one remake of the SNES turn-based RPG that seems pretty fun to play. People tend to call this an earthbound clone, but from what I've seen I don't think the term clone is appropriate. Seems more serious than Earthbound

Xenosaga I & II. DS demakes of the original PS2 games. There's a fan translation in the works, but the odds it'll release here are pretty much zero. I dunno if it's any good, I'm just intrigued by a genuine pair of demakes for these two games.

Does anyone know the title of that PSP or Vita game which is basically just a journey through a Japanese countryside? Always wanted to try that

Haha, I was coming to pick exactly this (Fuuraiki 3). Made a request for it on NISA's forums, but sadly no interest in it from them, so that's that. I can understand why, but I just really want to play it.

Otherwise, my answer would be the Boku no Natsuyasumi games, even though there are others here who would pick them I'm sure. I own all the games, and I'm learning the language, so hopefully one day I'll be able to play them and understand what's going on, but for now I still can't help but deeply wish they'd gotten the localisation treatment.

I'm planning to import 3 & 4 at some point, yeah :p

So anyway, since it hasn't been brought up yet, my suggestion is:

I don't think there's much demand for portable not-quite-Way-of-the-Samurai-from-the-DanganRonpa-team-but-without-the-stylish-murder-mystery, but it's top of my list. The fact that it's semi open world just makes me want it more. Ahh, what could have been.

Speaking of, it's almost exactly 1 year since it came out in Japan, so I think I can safely import soon without fear of it being localized, which is a real shame:

If I dig into old games, I think my pick would be Far East of Eden on... I don't even remember, SNES ?

If I follow you guys in the old but not too old I think it would be Last Ranker on PSP.

In terms of games without existing fan translations, this would probably be my pick too, heh.

Either that or Magical Vacation

This one isn't too high on my list because there's already a fan translation - a fan translation with DUBBED VOICE ACTING of all things - but yeah, I think I'd agree with you. An official one would be nice.

I know and that's how I played it, but it would be nice to be able to just load it on Steam or consoles and not have to go through all the stuff you currently need to do to play it in English.

Tetsudou Nippon!

I would also say Dragon Quest Theatrhythm but I know for a fact lots of people want that one.

Two routes from this series have been localized on the US Eshop, as Japanese Rail Sim 3D. While I own Journey in Suburbs #1 and can 100% confirm that it's only part of the Japanese release of the Nagaragawa Tetsudou version; I can't speak for the Journey to Kyoto, which may be all or part of the Eizan Densha version.

Also as someone who splits his time evenly between US and Japanese version games I can say that a large percentage of these unlocalized games are objectively not very good. ESPECIALLY Dream Mix TV World Fighters (oooh it's god awful!).

With the release of the newest Nobunaga's Ambition and recent app store release of Kamaitachi no Yoru (as Banshee's Last Cry) my "dream localization" has already happened. Other than that I can't think of anything in Japan that I want to play that I haven't been able to or won't be able to play in the near future (though if the powers that be want to release Steins Gate Zero I certainly wouldn't mind playing it in English).

The Secret of mana sequal. Seiken Densetsu 3.

Again, lots of people would like it but few would choose it as their #1.

I own Venus and Braves for the PS2 (which would thus be my preferred version as my PSP is gathering dust somewhere...) and although I played a fair way into it it's not really worth it without really understanding much of the story, and it was too slow going with a dictionary in hand.

It's a fun strategy RPG but very much not in the traditional Tactics Ogre-esque mould - you plan your battle entirely beforehand and there's no real movement save rotating your squad in a turn; it's all about how you plan out your unit placement beforehand.

That coupled with the Gestalt system for relationship management and an interesting storyline makes it good fun to play. Alas, it was 2D and niche - and spiritually a sequel to the also untranslated Seven: Molmoth's Cavalry - so never made it here.

The team behind it went on to make Fragile, which I never really got on that well with and should revisit someday; I think they're disbanded now, or at least absorbed elsewhere into the Bamco monolith.

Since Boku no Natsuyasumi was already mentioned, I'll go with the Combini/Conveni series. Basically, you manage a convenience store. That's it. Not sure how deep it is but I love weird niche simulator games like that. Plus I think it actually had the Lawson brand attached somehow.

I have the PSP version from when I visited Japan, but I'm probably going to need to learn A LOT of Japanese before I can consider playing it.

Back around when DS was just launched, I was bitter for Square Enix not bringing this over. I'm not even sure if it's a good game, but it looked interesting and there really weren't all that many games to buy for DS in those early days. Still kind of interested to try it out, but I'm guessing I never will.

These are great! Also a really neat niche sim was Burger Burger on PSone. You got to combine different ingredients as you created your menu of burgers as you sought to be the king of burger chains.

I have no idea about the chance of success of said project but I'm glad to tell you that someone is working on a fan trad and even announced a release in the ballpark of June.
I refuse to get hyped too much but even the prospect is nice.

Oooh yes please!!

Big ups to the poster who mentioned Segagaga. That would've been my pick. Since it can't be though...

I'd have to go with the Gihren's Greed games, with Gihren's Greed: The Menace of Axis V being my choice if I had to just pick one. They're large-scale turn-based strategy games where you run campaigns trying to win different Universal Century Gundam conflicts (generally the One Year War) as different factions (generally Zeon), going deep into alternate "history" scenarios depending on the choices you make.

You are not alone, I'd love to give it a try but I think it's next to impossible. Well that's why it is a dream localization after all
