Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

is there an Xbox marketplace thread on neogaf? I've used search, but nothing comes up.
I wanted to know MS policy regarding delisted games. Most of my dl games are still on the store, and I've been thinking of getting two games on the store for potential bc in the future(just in case both get pulled).

Can I redownload them without problem, or are they gone for good?

I am pretty sure but not 100% that once you buy something you are always free to download it when you like.

This is such a great feature. I've played through Sonic CD and Nights over the weekend. Last gen had some fantastic XBLA ports of classic games and it's great that they won't be lost to the mists of time.
Classic ports actually make me more excited for the feature than some of the big name games. It would really help to flesh out the XB1's library. It seems like they'd be a priority since people would be more likely to buy a last gen game if it was an old classic that never went out of style.

Castlevania: SOTN, where are youuuuu

Same here. I'd take SOTN over RDR lol

You can 100% redownload everything you bought (even free content) on 360.

Now for BC that's something different, because if said game has been delisted for expiring license it's hard to see them going BC.

I hope I'm wrong and Outrun goes BC tomorrow though :(

Left 4 Dead 2 is a pleasant surprise. So it's basically confirmed that it's backwards compatible? I've got the disc version so I'm pretty excited about this. Been wanting to play it again or a while.

Yeah, this is how I feel too. It's great to have the Gears games and such playable, but they're the sort of thing that I imagine will be ported/remastered for years to come. It's the lesser-known stuff that I'm more excited to get compatibility for. God knows when Beyond Good & Evil will get released again for example.

Quick Q, is the deus ex that's part of games with gold the directors cut or just the vanilla version? as I own the disc of the first release and wondering if I should renew live today or not for a few months.

It is the superior original version, not the DC.

Vanilla, I believe the Director's Cut still isn't backwards compatible.

It's the vanilla version, Director's Cut is not BC yet because it's multi-disc. The DLC is also not available yet for some reason, but it will be (along with multi-disc games) in "early 2016" (Square Enix quote)

Thanks you two. That makes me feel better about buying these two.
By the way, could there be a case in which a game works on Xbox 1 without being listed?

Ska Studios, take the hint. You're not a priority.

I was more pointing out that MS has games that they have they go-ahead on, but still haven't put out yet. They're a small indie studio, I'm sure they know they don't have tons of people clamoring for their games like RDR and CoD.

This needs to happen. Would love to play my Dishwasher games on the XB1.

I never did finish the first game, but I did the second. I never played Charlie Murder (which was a free GWG title) mostly because it came so late in the 360's life.

It seems like once they've improved the emulator enough, they should be able to release less-demanding titles like most XBLA games at a faster pace with just QA being the rate limiting step. At least that's what I hope.

Spent two hours today playing 360 games, and again its amazing they pulled this off. spent a hour on Dungeon Seige, very playable but combat is rough, not because of BC, but the way it was designed, I'm sure if I kept upgrading my character it would be better, but after a hour I rather goback to Diablo III. Peggle is still fun as ever, and in some ways I like it better then the XB1 sequel. something about it being more basic. Aegis Wings for a side shooter works very well, not into these games anymore tho. Southpark is perfect, Operation Flashpoint seems to run well, but the game wasn't much fun in the short time I played it. but it looks and runs well from what I played. I did pick games I wasn't sure I wasn't going to keep on my HD. I'll test more games tomorrow.

How come I dont have my Hexic HD in ready to install? I got it free with the 360 launch so maybe that doesn't count?

Pretty impressed with Fallout 3 and Condemned. Both seem to run great on BC. Was kind of shocked how well F3 has aged. Still looks solid and the only thing that really felt dated was the lack of iron sights.

Condemned runs well and is still a ton of fun. I don't think I have played it since the 360 launch. Was a little shocked at how much better the environments look than the character models do. Thomas looks terrible in the cutscenes and his hands look pretty low res and angular. Still happy to have this gem in my library again even if my memories were a little clouded by nostalgia.

Has there been any indication from Capcom for their XBLA games like SF3: Third Strike or the SSF2 Turbo HD:Remix coming? These are the main ones I really want to see come back.

Haven't seen any mention of either and with Capcom seemingly rereleasing their entire catalog not sure I would expect it. I end up buying them all...I'm part of the problem.

Usually games get delisted because of expired licenses (example Outrun and the Ferrari license), so it's hard to see one of those games gets the greenlight to release on X1.

Still, I'd love to see an Outrun on X1 even if it wouldn't have the Ferraris. Sega racing arcades are some of my favourites.

Gauntlet is BC and that game was delisted from Xbox Marketplace.

Tekken TT2 - (found this on reddit and worked for me this morning, UK)

"Tekken works still. I got it done this afternoon. Search up "Hes Pro" and look up what the account is following. Should find TTT2. There are 2 versions on the marketplace one that you can only follow but the other is a BC version. Should be able to do "see in store" and download it."

Make sure you look up the BC version, it has the 360 BC thumbnail, so easy to distinguish.

You must own it digitally.

Anyone have any idea how it runs?

Kind of strange, that we haven´t gotten any new games (officially) now they are released "as soon as they are ready".

With about 15 games per month there should drop a new game every 2 days ...

They might have blown their load and needed a few days to get stuff up and running, so I give them the benefit of the doubt last week

But I'm expecting at least a few games this week, if not then i'll start to worry we'll be getting like 3 games a month.

Almost perfectly when it's not suffering the occasional slowdown or brief pause, and it doesn't yet support DLC Tekken Tunes. Should get better once updated closer to what should be official release.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 seems to be nearly identical in performance to the X360 running it, but I've only played a dozen tag arcade mode matches so far. Seems to load faster than I remember, too. Only things noticed that seemed undesirable was a very brief audio cutoff of the background music track during a match and a single instance of the audio popping. Other than that, the game seems to have very brief and minor framerate dips during intro/outro cutscenes like the original hardware produced. I played with motion blur off to start and midway through my session switched it on with no apparent negative impact. Didn't try S3D mode, but that never ran great to begin with, cutting framerate in half and still dropped frames on X360. For an initial release, this is excellent, IMO. I've always had a hard time feeling slight input latency on newer Tekken games, but with that said, it felt good if not extremely close to the real thing. Only bad news I have to report, and this is probably due to it not being officially released yet, is that the DLC for the Tekken Tunes is not up yet to install.
Just as a followup to my first impressions of TTT2 on X1, I played another dozen arcade tag matches on the X360 and then immediately played about a dozen on X1 just to get a better sense of how it performed by comparison. I'd say that this first release of TTT2 is really close, but suffers from the very occasional bout of slowdown or framerate drops, at worst, slowing the game down for a second or so and in the five or so instances I recalled in that playtime, usually in advance of a tag-in where another character model is about to appear in the arena. The only other time I had a noticeably severe hit to performance occurred when I was at the edge of fishing boat stage and the game paused for what seemed like a second or so before continuing on. This happened in both the motion blur and AA-enabled modes, but not anymore than the other. I'm guessing that the game on X1 is semi-regularly dropping single-digit frames to just under 60fps when things seem most heated, but without someone to put this game under the microscope, it's hard to tell what is happening other than to feel like it's not quite up to par with the X360 game, especially for more competitive and observant players, but seems really close the vast majority of the time. I hope they can clean up the few instances of pauses and slowdown and there does seem to be some regularity of minor visual glitches when at the final arcade stage with Jun K./Unknown. I also had one hard lock while browsing customization items and had to reboot the system from the unit itself as the controller stopped responding. How much of this is due to interaction with the beta/preview UI is uncertain, but it wouldn't be surprising if it was a double-whammy at times. Needs updates, but very close to the X360 game overall in the first two hours of playtime with it, IMO.

Really? That's a great news, didn't know that.

What was the reason for its delisting though?
It's not the only delisted BC stuff, either, though I cannot recall off the top of my head what the others are ATM. Midway published the original set of Atari/Williams arcade games for XBLA before WB and others pieced up their properties when they went under.

Well, they did say they would release when they were ready, so we shouldn't be expecting a schedule or certain average of releases over time now as opposed to what they set themselves up for earlier with monthly drops.

Agreed with the above TTT2 impressions. Only when tagging in (especially from above/near walls) will you see a complete freeze in gameplay. Which is unfortunate but the game is still playable.

Also, I need to test peppery with a stick but I found it hard to do some combos that I hit relatively easy on the X360 version. (Jaycee CH 4 into elbow, etc.)

More testing tomorrow.

And most importantly, there is no noticeable input lag whatsoever, which is fantastic and compulsory for a beat em' up really!

Yeah, classic stuff like streets of rage, sonic, doom, etc are oddly absent years into this generation. Glad we get stuff like that at least through BC.
