Soma (latest)
Man, you guys aren't kidding when you said the new guy looks like someone from Bleach. Maybe TOSH should hangout more with Togashi instead of Kubo.
Anyway, i think Soma as a series need to "spice up" the cooking battle. The cooking battle with Kuga was interesting because there's more than just cooking, but also strategic alliance and proper preparation.
Maybe they should do insane survival cooking just like during training camp. Or, wacky cooking stuff. As insane Yakitate bread ending was, the Monaco arc was great due to different type of cooking stuff happening during that arc. Maybe someone who sabotage shit and stuff. Just throw some interesting thing.

Just more of this match. I should try and resist so as to batch all the same match games together, cause this is unbearable

Shin Mazinger Zero vol. 1
Go Nagai, the man has made many influential series that have inspired countless other manga and anime for years to come, but he also has a mean dark streak that he loves to flex and test someone's resolve to read or watch something so fucked up and depressing. This Mazinger manga that started alongside the TV Anime Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z-Hen is just another extension of how fucked up and dark Go Nagai's mind is.

Mazinger Z has been defined as a robot that has the power to either become God or the Devil. This manga goes with the concept of "what would happen if Kouji Kabuto couldn't control Mazinger and its power led to the world's destruction?" Mazinger's silhouette has always been pretty distinct compared to other Super Robots from its time, but here this manga puts it to good use to show how its design mimics a Devil. In contrast, the Anime emphasized the robot's physical similarity to the god Zeus, who freed humanity from the Mycanae Empire, and its power there was intense in a way that inspired awe in people. Here, it inspires terror instead, a way that could only be matched by the likes of the Getter Emperor.

The manga literally opens with the world already destroyed by Mazinger, with Kouji Kabuto the only human left alive. To correct this horrific nightmare, the humanoid incarnation of Minerva X gives Kouji the chance to change the past by sending him back in time before Mazinger's activation. But, things don't go exactly as you'd expect if you know about the traditional origin story for Mazinger. Needless to say, it takes all but four chapters for the world to return roughly to where it was right at the start of the manga, and the cycle starts all over again. Or rather already has, for at least nearly 3000 times.

This manga just fascinates me as a fan of Mazinger and Go Nagai's works in general because it's a different spin on a familiar series, but like Violence Jack, it also tests how much I can stomach some of these dark moments. Specifically, Kouji's introduction to Mazinger Z pre-world ending scenario paints his grandfather as an irredeemable monster, causing Kouji to have his arm severed and Sayaka being violated before killed by Juuzou and his Doc Ock arms that he suddenly has. The upside is that Kouji throws his severed arm like a rocket punch (mirroring this moment from the anime) and it busts up Juuzou real good, but everything else almost feels like it was trying super hard to create the most horrible experience for Kouji because it felt like it. But that was only one cycle, so I hope if things go south again, it's not at the expense of characters I liked such as Juuzou or Sayaka.

Still, full translations of Go Nagai manga continue to be hard to come by, so I'll still enjoy what I can of this and hope translations for this keep going as I've only found them for up through Volume 4. A Mazinger story that explores the "devil" aspect of Mazin and what that power is truly capable of doing is still worth checking out as a Super Robot fan.

Delusional Love ch14

Still too half-assed dude. Keeping your family in the dark isn't really protecting them at this point.

DEAD Tube ch14

Oh the classic murderer on a deserted island.

Yuricam 19 - The pinnacle of culture returns. Every time I give up hope that the translation will ever be continued, the group doing this seems to rise from the grave. It's taken them four years to release 19 chapters, and there's still three volumes left.

*gotta keep that authenticity

Jokes on terrible translation aside, this was basically just...a really bad biography? Except it's not really a biography? It focuses on a reimagined Theodorus van Gogh, the art dealer famous for being at least partially responsible for popularizing impressionism and also for being Vincent van Gogh's brother and greatest supporter, and some ridiculously overly dramatized struggles to make his brother famous.

Well, I say over dramatized, but the whole thing doesn't have any basis in any history aside from the characters borrowing the names and professions of their namesakes. It portrays van Gogh as Jesus and hilariously ends with Theodorus rewriting his history in order to make him the romantic mentally disturbed artist, because the "real" history where he loses his ear in a scuffle with the mob-like old blood of the art world and gets shot on the streets is apparently just not good enough.

At least it made me read up more on the real person, who, by the way, was actually interesting.

Girls of the Wild's

So...is this a red herring to bring Ingui back to Jaegu like he's having nosebleeds from stress and overworking, or is this where the series gets decidedly Korean drama on us?

It'd be nuts if he was terminally ill or something and knew about it, and that was why he pushed her away. Then again, it is k-drama so...it's possible lol.

Well I'd think if its say cancer, its something unknown to Jaegu. I doubt he'd push everyone away knowing he's dying leaving his kid siblings noone to look after them.

One Punch Man

The high quality version drags compared to the ONE version, but this was pretty good. Kind of annoying that Saitama so rarely gets to show his strength. With all the extra padding here it feels a bit frustrating. I mean I hope he doesn't show much of these tournament fights other than Saitamas...
