(previous post was for a friends O3DS, this one is related to mine)

Was trying to downgrade my N3DS XL from 9.8 using sysupdater, but kept running into that "failed to get" error. Switched to safesysupdater and it was maybe 10 files into patching, then native firmware, then another file, and then the normal DS "error has occurred screen" came on.

It rebooted after I took the SD card out but it's just loading forever if I try to access System Settings/etc. Disappointing - will try to get back into browserhax to try again...

edit - Just black screens if I start it with an SD card in it. Pretty sure the advice for me now is to try recovery...? So much for safesysupdater!

the thing with the blackscreen with the SD card in happened to me.
to get out of that, i went and deleted the extdata folder inside the Nintendo 3DS folder. from what i read, this was caused if you ever had installed menuhax earlier at any point (i had it when i started the procedure). deleting extdata gets rid of any theme data and completely eliminates the old menuhax and the system will start again.
you can just redo menuhax with browserhax after that.

I specifically read yesterday that old 3DS does only up to 32gb. I don't know if it can be worked around with a hack or something, but I did hear that.

Officially, 3DSs of all varieties only support up to 32GB. In practical terms, it seems like it won't complain so long as it sees a FAT32 filesystem.

Speaking of Micro SD cards, Swedish retailer elgiganten is currently having a sale of 128gb MicroSD cards for 299SEK. (~32€) Both in store and online. So if you're Swedish it might be worth checking out.

Unfortunately even after swapping to an entirely clean SD I was completely unable to get into either System Settings or the Browser app. It would just loop on the Nintendo/Red wave screen endlessly.

I think Nintendo didn't want to pay up to license a solution for formatting in FAT32 for partitions larger than 32gb, but there are free tools available for doing this yourself.

RE: The Doom port. I installed the CIA, but have no idea where to put my WADs at.
Using the wads from my steam copy fwiw.

Just rocking an old FE:A 3DS here and haven't touched this in a while. I got NinjHax 2.0 installed and am on 9.9.0-26U atm.
Can anyone point me to a guide to get CFW going since most of the talk here is about the N3DS and the OP is extremely outdated.

I mostly just want to play my GBA games on the internal hardware emu if possible if not I don't care too much so thanks in advance for the info. :)

Congratz! :D Since you have an o3DS I would follow this guide: http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial...luding-emunand-coldboot-cia-installer.405589/

It says it's for new 3DS but I see nothing that would make it outright incompatible with the old 3DS. After that I would replace rxTools with AuReiNAND from here: http://gbatemp.net/threads/reinand-mod-o3ds-n3ds-sysnand.411110/

And then upgrade your emuNAND to 10.5 for maximum convenience.

Finally to get GBA games going, look at this topic: http://gbatemp.net/threads/release-agb_firm-signature-patcher-gba-rom-converter.390313/

To play GBA games on emuNAND you have to install them to sysNAND and emuNAND, the AGB_FIRM patch however has to be only installed in emuNAND for this to work.

Just write again here when you reach that point and I can explain more in detail if needed :)

Also once you set up the MenuHax auto-boot don't forget to remove any WiFi settings from sysNAND to prevent accidental sysNAND upgrades!

The issue is definitely exFAT, the format that you're supposed to use for SDXC cards. The SD Association never should have made the default format for SDXC cards a proprietary one. I can understand that FAT32 really starts showing its limits one you get volumes that large, but replacing it with something proprietary only introduces different issues.

Also, to be absolutely clear, FAT32 doesn't require anything special to make volumes larger than 32GB. Microsoft just pretends that it doesn't allow volumes over 32GB for historical reasons. All you need to format that is literally any formatter not written by Microsoft.

How do I import save data?

I want to replay AA5 but I have lost my save data (I deleted the game ages ago and apparently my progress went along with it). I found a save data on Google but I don't know how to import it.

Help?

EDIT: Nevermind, apparently the save data I found is for .3ds roms (how if AA5 is digital only in the west). Anyone here have a normal save data to share?

so with reinand 3.2beta, I just go into emunand and update through the console? No need to update any other files on the SD card? thanks
Just make sure you are in Rei system settings and choose system update. It acts just like a normal 3DS system update. No extra effort or files needed from you.

Thank you. Is this how it always is to update through reinand? As long as I stay on reinand I can always update through the system without ever needing to replace files on the sd card?

Well question before I do the AuReinand stuff here. I already got the GBA stuff working with Rxtools but the latest AuReinand is at 10.4 which I think requires me to unlink the emunand. Is that safe to do now in regards to using GBA games since i was they needed to be linked before but I'm not sure if thats the case now. Don't know if it solves that problem from Rxtools or not so being a little cautious here.

If a buy a New 3DS and do a transfer from my old XL would it be possible to have homebrew afterwards? Doesn't transfer require latest update?

What problems do you have with rxTools?
Well technically on an o3DS there's little difference between rxTools and AuReiNAND. I just suggested it because it seems to have better bootrates and is generally seen as less bloated, though as far as I know rxTools can be updated to 10.5 too if running on an o3DS. As for GBA games with unlinked NANDs, it is a bit tricky. As soon as you unlink NANDs your GBA games will stop working at first. All you have to do to get them running again is installing them a second time in sysNAND.

This is because of the way GBA mode works on the 3DS, even when you start a GBA game in emuNAND the 3DS reboots into GBA mode which unloads emuNAND so it will look for the game on sysNAND. It's no problem at all aside from the fact that each GBA game will obviously take twice the space on your SD card.

Also as far as I know you don't really have to unlink NANDs when using AuReiNAND, it's just advised because from my random readings at GBATemp a linked NAND can have some strange side-effects including emuNAND updates accidentally upgrading sysNAND, .cia's behaving oddly and getting repacked into gifts etc. Though I'm not sure how much of that is true or user-error.

In your current set-up did you have to patch AGB_FIRM afterall?

And lastly if you decide to unlink NANDs, use TinyFormat in sysNAND to do it: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-tinyformat.391635/

That way you won't have the common NNID log-in error in emuNAND and don't have to worry about your SD card contents.

Oh alright! I actually don't have any problems with rxTools I went ahead and put AuReiNAND on here too and it seems to work okay as well although it boots to a black screen for GBA stuff.

Ah yeah I haven't really been having problems with a linked nand in rxtools for now besides the games randomly repacking themselves, but it doesn't seem to effect saves so I guess it's alright.

In your current set-up did you have to patch AGB_FIRM afterall?
Yeah I was following instructions there and went ahead and did it while triple checking deleting cia's and installing. It seems to have worked out alright but I wasn't expecting GBA games to come out with the brightness down:
ypwgVCC.png

That's disappointing but I guess I'll have to wait for a fix for that.

Alright I'll keep this in mind! For now I'll keep things in emunand linked and on 9.2 since there isn't any recent games I want to play for now. (Well there is FE Fates but I want a SE cart and I'll wait to see if some stock shows up.)

Ah okay yeah aslong as saves stay fine I wouldn't be too bothered by the repackaging bug either, seems like staying on 9.2 for the time being will turn out alright for you :)

As for the GBA brightness I was bummed about that too, I mean I know that the GBA and the GBA SP front-lit models were a bit notorious for their low screen-brightness but Nintendo didn't have to emulate that aswell :p I'm not sure it can be fixed though, maybe if someone rewrite AGB_FIRM to set a different hardware brightness level.

And regarding Fire Emblem, if you do get a SE cart, from what I understand if you dump it and convert it to a .cia with the Cryptofix Patch included you should be able to run it on 9.2 even but don't quote me on that I'm just going off by what I read on GBATemp.

Yes, pretty much. You should always update to the latest version of Reinand and related files (I'm looking at firmware.bin) before updating, just to be sure it all goes smoothly.

I have some DSiWare games I'd rather keep.

What do I need to do to get them back on my sysNAND after I format it with Tiny Format?

Clone them from emuNAND somehow?
Well, it seems I'm almost there!

It's fairly easy to use Decrypt9WIP to dump ticket.db
And then use FunkyCIA2 to generate CIA files of your legally owned DSiWare.
But I could not get them to install to sysNand!

The step I was missing is that in order to install games to sysNand you have to:
- disable signature checks by using miniPasta to boot sysNand

After that:
- use browserhax to boot HBL
- use FBI to install the DSiWare to sysNand
- load DSiWare from emuNand

I tried but I gave up since I could lose too much, if my games were physical I would've tried again but my collection is digital.
There's really no risk of losing digital purchases

There's also a homebrew alternative to the Pokemon Bank, although I don't know if it's any good

Just bought a n3dsxl, came with 9.9-26 tried to use browserhax, even the trick of turning the device and opening the browser immediately fail, not only that, with the tubehax dns on the browser can't do anything at all not even visit Google I just get a browser can't be used message, the dns does work on my pic, anyway I just ordered OoT and a powersaves , let's hope that's not a waste of money :/

may be you are doing it wrong, the DNS trick works with the QR code to access the yellows8 page

i think I tried that, using a QR that took me to {some url}/3dsbroserhax_auto.php, it got stuck loading and after a minute or two it just said the browser can't be used. There was one time out the many I tried that the browser glitched out super bad but then nothing happened and had to restart, is that an indication it's working?

That's pretty cool! I don't really see myself replaying it on the Nintendo things unless it gets more story content though.
I'd totally buy it still though if it was released officially.

here some cool replacement for the C stick

the PSP nub on C stick

I know the thread has been derailed, but I find this very cool to do.

I'm now wondering if the same port from the stick to the hardware (3DS and PSP) applies to all sticks, that might able the replacement from other sticks, like the Vita stick.

of course other sticks might interrupt the clam-sell design of the 3DS
