SNK Playmore Announces the Opening of SNK Entertainment

So they are on the brink of closing and people still wish them to make game with old 2D graphic which cost more?

They're not on the brink of closing anymore. They might be again in the future if their new Chinese overlords see no profit from these operations.

I still feel like a chump for buying one of those Neo Geo X Gold systems they released. God, what a piece of shit.
At least the arcade pad is cool. Can use it on PS3.

Glad SNK is still in the game.

There was the Sengoku series as well.

And Burning Fight, ROBO ARMY, The Super Spy & Mutation Nation. But mainly Sengoku 1, 2 & 3.

Capcom are still the king of beat 'm ups (that (almost) never released on any consoles). Konami's second.

The more SNK the better. There's still a place for them in the market. I just hope KOFXIV represents that well otherwise their other IPs will suffer greatly for it.

Does SNK have money? I always thought they were on the brink of closing.

The important parts of the quote are:

"SNK Entertainment will work on contract development focused on video and graphics production, taking care of the licensing of the over 200 intellectual properties owned by the SNK group"

So third parties will be making games based on their IPs. Hopefully some good ones too and not just shitty mobile phone candy crush copies.

Can we get a new fighting series and a new action shooter? I like their core franchises, but something new and fresh would be cool.

This chinese company is like if a kid that grew up with great games like SNK and became a multi millionaire CEO of your own company. What do you do with your money when you saw that your childhood company is doing poorly? Buy them and refocus them on gaming again.

Hope it works out for SNK.

I'm super stoked for this, man I almost missed this news. Sleeper megaton here, well at least if you were gaming in the 90's it is. Did SNK make a full financial recovery from the crisis of around a decade ago? If so that's great and I'm really happy for them.....I kind of worry about how much clout they have with this new generation of gamers though. I mean sure, if you grew up in the 80's through the 90's then you know and probably love SNK for the best sprites in the business and the consistently amazing arcade games with simply but fun controls and, of course, the incredible NEO GEO; but does the average new gen gamer even know who SNK is? I worry about that a bit, but I'm optimistic though and I think this is great. Here's hoping they can get back the glory years again.

My next beer is to you SNK :D

For the "insiders", is this actually good news? Are you telling me there is hope for something else than pachinkos and KOFs?

Nakoruru is apparently a new guest character in some Tencent MOBA game called Kings of Glory. The IP whoring is starting :p Good for SNK if it can deliver some good games through this initiative.

Seriously, I've wondered for years... what does the SNKP USA office even DO day-to-day? I assume they'll be doing a lot NOW, but between XBLA releases and PS2 stuff, what did they do over the past decade?

... Anyway, this is great news, of course. Beyond the big huge stuff, I'd love to see them even get characters stuck in highly regarded kickstarter-style projects. Mai in Indivisible? Metal Slug characters in Hyper Light Drifter? Actual SNKP characters in Pocket Rumble? Could be fun to see.

I could imagine this also leading to more consistent funding for US fighting game tourneys, and an overall more active non-Asian-countries presence.

It's definitely a step in the right direction, I look forward to what their first actions will entail.

Pachinko is gone. Samsho is rumored to be released next year.

It's happening then? I'll be in the happening bunker waiting for Fatal Fury 5 or MOTW2 or whatever they want to call it.

Packing roms downloaded from the internet into homemade emulators is serious business.

I wouldn't count on a new Last Blade, Motw or FF for now tbh. KoF, Samsho and Metal Slug are their biggest IPs that need to sell first decently. But maybe if it works out?

At least we are getting them as legal as possible~

I was never a fan of SNK fighting games (I've always been a Street Fighter II guy), but I got that SNK collection on my Wii and had a blast with their action games! Magician Lord, Metal Slug, Sengoku, Burning Fight... really fun games.

Oh boy, SNK announcing Metal Slug 8 would be pretty dope.
It is e3 2016
Snk announce a metal slug game developed by the spelunky team; randomly generated stages and enemies
It eill feature various modes and a dozen characters from throughout the franchise, allen is playblemonce again and even morden
Then as the trailer ends
THE MOST METAL RENDETION OF CONTRA JUNGLE THEME EVER PLAYS AND BILL RISER AND LANCE ARE PLAYABLE UNLOCKABLE CHRACTERS
The contra x metal slug crossover you always dreamed of is on its way
Also trailer ends with bill and marco doing the dillon and dutch handshake from predator followed by explosion in background

They honestly need to bring SS Zero Special to a platform that doesn't costs you 1000usd to play it.
I know they once made a promise to never do this as a farewell gift to all AES owners, but I wouldn't be mad now. I love my AES cart but more people need to play that game.

This SNK Ent. company isn't a producer, however, it's a licensing management company. So they should be negotiating ways to get SNKProducts into other people works and ideas.

It's less "Make me Metal Slug 8!" and more like "Lets get Metal Slug characters into Overwatch!" or something.

What are the real likely places to see them show up? That Fatal Fury live action fan film that's on KS? In a couple of western MOBAs? McDonalds happy meals? A western-made comic series?

Packing roms downloaded from the internet into homemade emulators is serious business.

I bet, ha. Even that was most likely tossed over to some other porting house. They've just been so dormant for so long. Maybe they still arrange for arcade machines to be sent to laundromats or something...

I'd like to see them get back to making *other* games as well, or at least assist in bringing titles to the world. They did such a Thing with Trouble Witches NEO, it'd be great to see them have their hands in projects that go beyond Asia.

I would totally do that if I could, I thought of this possibility as well.
