Uncharted 4 Story Trailer

UC3 was a story based around pre-planned set pieces which is the worst way to do it, you need to have a story and naturally base the set pieces around it (see: Uncharted 2).

All the games do that to some extent, guaranteed. UC3 just didn't do a good job of hiding it. The ship sequence being basically a sidequest with no bearing on the overall plot was especially disappointing.

...except Uncharted 2 was also based around some of the set-pieces i.e. the train. The only way they could get some of the set pieces running in time for the game to ship was to start working on them before the story was even written. It's not necessarily a bad way to write even, as sometimes having stipulations can make the writer come with innovative or interesting solutions to work them in. As you can see it was very organic in 2, but it didn't feel as tight in 3. I think that may have been more because of time restraints than the process itself however, as a lot of secondary characters and the pacing of the story itself felt very clipped in the last third.

If you're implying what I think you are...
Gran Turismo Sport and Horizon.

@Damn you Bruce...
gt sport, if i understand it, is just gran turismo 7 prologue, although it is more than just a prologue
E3 is mid-June. Please look forward to Crash Bandicoot PS4, Shenmue HD Collection and Agent as the new trifecta of dreams.
ah, and so it was june. i don't know why it feels like i saw the Uc4 trailer back in april/may
Horizon Zero Dawn ?
that's a new IP, and of course while they'll be promoting the hell out of it if it is a big hit it'll be their next big thing, but i mean with the way things are now, Uc4 is huge because it became a huge franchise.

Uncharted 2 was made around set pieces as well. It was just better designed.

Of course all linear games are like that, it's just that the way it was handled in Uncharted 3 was so glaring and inferior in comparison.

Pretty much every single action game starts with "wouldn't it be cool if *this idea here* was a video game!?" and then everything is built around it, including the narrative context.

Currently Undertale, Witcher 3, and Her Story, they all use the medium is much more interesting ways imho than TLOU, with great writing/acting as well and imo less tropes.
Meh, tropes are fine if the acting is good. Everything original isn't fantastic because it's original, people have been trying to be creative since forever, it's bound to be some overlap in ideas. And there was nothing trope about TLOU ending, which is important because it has a lasting impact on the entire story.

Still boggles my mind that people want to see terrible 90s characters brought back with sincerity in 2016. :/

I could totally a new Crash working as a $20 digital game though.

I've been rewatching the trailer at least twice a day (if not more), and every time i'm in absolute disbelief of what they are achieving on PS4.
If my jaw is on the floor with a simple trailer, i can't even imagine what will be playing the full game.

Terrible for you but or others it isn't. It boggles my mind people don't understand opinions.

that good eh?

trying to avoid story trailers but hyped to hear your impressions

Are we sure we will get more trailers like this one before release ( I know we will get a launch trailer that will be very short like every launch trailer since launch trailers are meant to be short TV Ads)?

You shouldn't expect another trailer of this length from the game. Neil said that we're going to start getting screenshots and behind the scenes videos on a regular basis from here on out. There will likely be a launch trailer and a commercial that's probably made from that trailer. But that's it.

i think the general public and both hardcore and casual gamers and all potential consumers overall have seen enough of this game to draw an interest to it.

Hell yeah, it's not only the out-of-this-world graphical level they achieved (i mean seriously what sort of voodoo magic they did to get this), but also the set pieces snippets and the cutscenes seems to be masterfully directed, and generally the whole trailer is well cut.

Great, great trailer, hype is now at 10.

dropping the framerate from 60 to 30, and the rest is just them being wizards. don't forget that the target was 1080p/60fps and they literally said it was "really fucking hard".

We'll probably get a launch trailer and that might be it trailer wise, rest of the pre release stuff will be screenshots and behind the scenes!

Also there will no doubt be TV Spots for this game.

As someone who voted for Undertale as my GOTY, the idea that its writing is inherently better because of how it uniquely applies to videogames will never not infuriate me. You are out of your mind.

And lol @ tropes. Everything has tropes.

this story trailer could work as the launch traler imo. it's exactly 2 months away.

A launch trailer has to work as a TV Spot. A story trailer doesn't sell it to casual fans.

There'll be a launch trailer in about month or a little more where we'll see a combination of all the action sequences we've seen so far and a little less cutscene. Probably about 40 seconds.

I have we can get a co-op trailer too. I'm very curious to see how the co-op mode looks like.

what do you think the casual fans want? usually i hear people saying all they play is multiplayer but that was the case made for sf5 where it's the casuals who care more about the story
It is probably going to have some sort of lauch trailer, but I think it will be mostly old footage.
that's fine.
I have so many fond memories of Uncharted 2's COOP mode... damn, what a great game.
coop is what I played most in the Uc2 multiplayer.

I would really fucking love it if they added splitscreen coop to this game though

CO-OP? I didn't know Uncharted 4 will have co-op. iT must be surely justy stand alone online missions only and not for the main game. If only the story mode had co-op mode like with RE5 or at least when a NPC accompany and helps Nathan like Sully or Sam, we can plug another controller and control the NPC at that section just like in DMC3 when fighting Arkham we can plug a second DS2 controller on PS2 and control Vergil next to Dante. This would be Epic.

Nothing is truely new at this point. Stories survive primarily on execution not some weird concept of "uniqueness" that people bring up.

I know you're talking about hair only, but god does that shot look bad. Here's a less compressed one, taken from the highest res version of the E3 demo video. You can also see the dithering more clearly.

snip.

Thanks. Saved.
Isn't his hair self shadowing in that pic you provided though? It looks like the hair coming down the right side of his forehead is shadowing his skin.

Which screen are you talking about btw? (maybe the gelled hairs above his forehead dom but not the hair from his side burns?) That would be a reasonable guess.
shit...i'm just not tech savvy enough to understand this stuff :\
I mean, if I was more thorough I would be updating this thread more often. Anything you don't understand.. just ask there!

Agreed. If a good story means most interesting delivery then enjoy that race to the bottom.
