While this music based fighting game was announced previously, it's now confirmed on both PS4 and Vita, with the PS4 version having extra features.

There are also more PSN themes announced, such as the third in the Seasons of Gensokyo themes, Summer. You can see it on the Mediascape/Playdoujin blog here.

From what one could briefly see on Japanese PSN, it would seem these games are doing well enough for download only titles.

Adventures of Scarlet Curiosity looks pretty good actually! If anyone's played it before, how easy would it be to play without knowing how to read japanese?

Pretty damn easy, it's rather gameplay focused. There's also unofficial English patches if you ever buy the PC version.
The game's a bit expansive, and there's lots of platforming at times, but that's about as confusing as it gets.
Do note the combat is a bit simple. You get your basic combo and learn new skills and supers as you play, but the Ys comparison still stands.

Sounds good! I'm fine with simplistic gameplay so long as it's fun - Akiba's Trip has very simple gameplay and that was my biggest surprise of last year, for instance.

Aquastyle (that created the MG: TOD for vita) announced on their Nico cast that TOD is already their best selling title ever. Also, they will bring new ports and original games to vita and DLC to their existing games. PS4 ports are currently being discussed, but nothing for now.

Finally they say that they will shift their focus from PC to console, like Falcom. They blamed on piracy, weak sales and stuff like that.

Touhou games are releasing on Steam in the near future though.

If they're not going to be translated like that one release, then who cares. ZUN is an idiot for blocking a localization.

Same for not letting the official Touhous be ported. There's being protective, then there's being petty.

Alright, this looks gorgeous. I miss JRPGs that crammed their locations full of little details instead of just creating spacious settings with few environmental quirks or anything that resembles a sense of place. Not that I'm saying this game will absolutely do that, but that screenshot represents something I miss from the genre these days.

Eh, spoke too soon.

If anything it is prob. the more convenient way of getting the game for some people (like me).

It's still unacceptable. No one should stand for a game being released without a translation nowadays.

Especially when fans had a patch up within days.

Good for them. It seemed to be getting very positive feedback from what I'd read.

Shifting from PC to console too, that's interesting.

Isn't this more of a case of not putting this out on Steam etc. I mean realistically how much are you going to sell on DMM/DL site like 100 copies.

Zun is the problem.

What I understand is that Aquastyle want to create original games and not just Touhou. Once exposed to a big console ecosystem, with a hit game and a publisher, they can think bigger and expand.

Looks that sony indie initiative in Japan is already giving results.

While that's good to know, part of the reason for that is they kinda shot themselves in the foot with their draconian DRM. I hear it's worse than most western AAA games' DRM used to be, and no one wants to go through that.

While there's a bit of a noticeable difference between the tiny shop and the palace, there's still a lot of details in most areas of the game, so I wouldn't dismiss it like that. Check out the trailers if you have to.

It is unacceptable. The problem is there still seems to be the mindset of "eh this is a doujin series, it should stick to the hardcore fans", rather any actual attempt to sell the thing as a viable product. This extreme fear of the series expanding is seriously holding it back.
Not so much for the spinoff developers though, and I wouldn't blame or fault them for anything other than refusing to expand West/digitally. At the very least the other game released on Playism was actually translated.

I agree, I have nothing against the spinoff devs, more power to them. But it's obvious that PS are being hamstrung by ZUN. They want Touhou, he won't let them have it, so they have to settle for derivatives.

And its niche status is also why no one is calling them out on it, so it's effed up all around.

Sorry for the bump, searched and couldn't find a newer thread for the game.

Adventures of Scarlet Curiosity (東方紅輝心) was released a few weeks ago on PSN in Japan. It's 2500円, Famitsu scored it 7/7/7/6 [27/40], 4.75 star rating on PSN from 1092 people, and it looks gorgeous in those PSN store screenshots:

edit: bought it, played a few levels. The game plays like the faster Ys games (Oath in Felghana, Origin, 6) and it's actually pretty fun: fast gameplay where you try to avoid being hit by the enemy's attacks and bullet curtains in order to rack up combos and gain exp more quickly, you level up and find new gear. There's a world map where you can pick which stage you want to go to next, each stage has a unique look and there's always a hook to them (platforming sections, the game takes away your map and you have to find your way through a maze by following a will o'wisp, etc.) The story is nothing special but doesn't get in the way either, 2 playable characters to pick from at the start. The game looks pretty good (environments are a bit low poly, effects look terrific but are often overused imo) and it runs buttery smooth at what I'm pretty sure is 1080p/60fps without any tearing. It also has an atmospheric soundtrack that really fits the game, like Ys' but less of a focus on rock.
