Um... is this going to end up one of the best-selling Harvest Moon games?
Looks like it's already roughly in line with some entries from the early 20teens. EDIT: In Japan, that is.
It'll definitely beat them in the long term.

It's kind of awkward to play with a controller IMO. Could easily be improved on tho.
Wait... Stardew Valley was made by one person?
Yup, ConcernedApe. Great job for just one guy! Very high quality, lots and lots of content (and multiplayer on its way!)Wait... Stardew Valley was made by one person?
While I'm ecstatic that it's doing well and what that means for the genre...
It makes it that much more painful to see what the actual harvest moon series has become in recent years. The games peaked in quality on the GBA...
Call me a purist but I want the actual creator to get the series back togethor and for Natsume and the Japanese dev to make up.

Yeah, it's entirely made by ConcernedApe, music included. Chucklefish produced the game, but I'm not sure what they did.

Not that Stardew won't eventually eclipse the WW figures, but those are just Japanese numbers.

Why did he need Chucklefish ?
Cant put his own game on steam himself?
Baaaah, still haven't got around to playing it 'cause of IRL responsibilities. I hear it's good, though, and I can't wait to actually run it.
And also Pokemon.
I really hope an indie dev finally makes a good Pokemon clone. Would love to see how it would be handled by someone who isn't GameFreak, y'know?
Port begging is a bannable offense tho.
They might have provided funding for development given he's been developing for so long and this is his first game.
Its also number 3 at currently played games on steam at the moment:

Lots of streamers have really sold teh game, though. It also helps the the game is actually really, really good and well done.
Of course, streamers will always sell a good game, I just don't agree that there's anything about the game that is particularly suited specifically to streamers. No multiplayer, not particularly funny, while you have freedom to create your farm, it's not like Minecraft level freedom, will take a LONG time to finish, is slow paced, etc.

Reminds me of the success of Banished, another one person studio that provided something good in an undeserved genre.
I don't think it has the "feels" for that, unfortunately.it seems like this year's version of Undertale.
Who would've thought a farming sim would do well on Steam !
I hope XSeed/Marvelous are taking notes ;p
Also mentioned that Valve asked Marvelous to do a Steam version of Harvest Moon.
Former Marvelous guy said on a podcast recently (after the success of Stardew Valley) that he had lobbied internally to get more of their stuff on Steam, but it never got much traction because he was the only one really pushing for it.
Also mentioned that Valve asked Marvelous to do a Steam version of Harvest Moon, apparently Valve was trying to court Japanese developers to get more Japanese games on Steam. Marvelous wasn't interested in it.
Not sure if I should mention the podcast (not sure if he was allowed to be saying that), but it was a former guest on the 8-4 play podcast.
