Kamen Rider: Battride War Genesis - Free DLC/new screens/latest trailer + opening

How bad is it? I was tempted to get it since it has cross-save and I'll be traveling a lot these next two months. I'm still pissed the game runs at 30 on PS4. It both looks and feels like an upscaled PS3 game with nothing extra aside from good loading times and more enemies on the screen.

I wish I could capture it. I got through the first mission, which was absolutely horrendous in terms of the framerate. I don't know hard numbers, but it seemed like single digits. The game was chugging and it's like you're in slow motion.

The next one wasn't as bad but that was only because there weren't many enemies on the screen. (Which is most of the time with this kind of game)

Visually, the game looks heavily downgraded. Most likely to help with the framerate but it doesn't seem to help much.

Gonna play through it some more later to get a better impression. Hopefully it will be patched in the future. At present however, it's hard to justify the full import price tag.

That's a bummer. They plan to support the game through at least April, so perhaps some of these issues will be patched. Right now the shielded enemies are too frustrating/unsafe to fight with 90% of the roster. The mechanic needs to be overhauled so that those levels aren't such a slog to get through. Pretty much everyone is viable on Easy through Hard form what I've seen, but it's basically suicide playing any rider who can't break shields fast. Ideally, they should patch the mechanic so that attacks do damage while they're under the shield, and the stun time after it's broken needs to be doubled at the very least. It's a shame since the rest of the game is fun otherwise.

Does anyone know if starting a new story mode file wipes your progression? You need to fight the final boss with a bunch of characters to get the missing roster, and I'd rather do that on Easy to speed things up. If going down to Easy makes me play through the whole story again, then I'll just tough it out and do Normal. Also, have any of the new figures been translated yet?

Slight update of performance. It seems like the framerate issues were really connected with the map you have to play on the intro level. Since then, things have been pretty steady. Enjoying it now.

That first impression really made me flacid.

That's good to hear. I guess I'll get it when I get paid in a few days. Has anyone found and/or used the cross save feature? I'd like to know how it works before I buy the Vita copy.

Anyone on the PS4 version having issues with cutscenes being super laggy for some reason (the in-game cutscenes, not the few CG ones)?

Got the PS3 Version, so far no major technical issues---but is it me or is the camera pretty wonky in this?

So far though it seems like a relatively "good game" if you're a Rider fan, especially considering the varied character roster. The graphics are passable, and the presentation looks a bit better than the original---I especially think the stages feel a lot more natural and more interesting than the ones in the original, as well as feeling a bit shorter since I've yet to come across those "destroy the memory pillars!"

Was pleasantly surprised to see you can now spend money to raise levels of the Riders which is a great feature every Musou should have, and combined with the Tag System (which is rather neat, especially when your partner's special attacks perfectly meshes with your own combo) makes leveling the Riders up far easier and less tedious.

Glad I ordered the TV Sound Edition, because the in-game music is still pretty bland---there was this pretty great sounding piece that played at the beginning of the Drive level, though it was replaced once the level started with Surprise Drive...don't know if that only played at the intro though and would be replaced by duller music in the regular Edition. Also neat how the Custom Soundtrack allows you to choose whether or not you want the TV Sound Edition songs to begin at the climax for Form Changes, or start at the beginning for when using them on levels. Hope someone posts a good translation of the BGM Menu soon though.

How do the Gachapon figurines work? I only got one, Drive Wild, and I see it has its own stats and can level up, but do they have unique Abilities still this time around or do they just give stat boosts? It's neat though how you can find them in levels now as opposed to having to buy them, makes it a bit more fun IMO. Also hope someone does a good list of what they do since I want to grab one that gives increased EXP or Money.

My thoughts on the four characters I have...

* It doesn't surprise me Ghost doesn't have individual Form Changes since that's a lot of Forms plus many of them don't have too many abilities shown in the show, but the way they linked all seven of them to a string gets a bit confusing. Also fuck his Super Attack, he never seems to actually aim at the enemy and just flails around wildly. Does he ever get anything new when leveling up? The previews show a bar filling up under the Ghost Driver which I don't see yet---what does that do?

* Drive is pretty neat in how in-depth he seems with all the Shift Cars, though now I'm sad because I've slacked off on my Japanese and the katakana is throwing me off so I get confused over what Shift Car I'm actually using. Love he can pull off the Pinball Finisher whenever he wants, though it seems a bit broken. I never filled up the bar enough when playing as him, but I guess one bar gives you Formula, two gives you Tridoron? Still haven't figured out how the new Super Bar works exactly.

* Mach's neat, he seems pretty fast and I love how he cancels out his attacks with that forward dash. Noticed if you hold down Square, he does the jack-up deal---guess that just powers up him for a bit, right? Magarl proved pretty useful when fighting the Bat Grongi with the shield because it homes in on him and all...there's no way to charge up the Shift Bikes like in the show, right? When I do the jack-up he just switched back to the Mach Shift Car. Also noticed pressing down on the control pad does a different attack.

* Kuuga getting another one-on-one stage was neat, though a bit cramped which messed up the camera and not as effective as the Daguva fight in BW1. Otherwise he feels the exact same as BW1 to me, which isn't an issue as he was pretty fun anyway---is Decade Kuuga vastly different, or is he mainly different only due to the new Ultimate form?

This is what I'm afraid of, bleh.

Having played for several hours now I feel like it's competent enough. Don't expect a game feel tailored to the Vita. The opening level is very jarring it terms of performance but once you get out of that, things start to even out. You will still get some slowdown from time to time with larger groups of enemies or when you transform. I've been able to enjoy it as a Kamen Rider fan and can forgive the technical issues as someone who really enjoys playing this series on the go.

Have you tried the cross save feature yet? I haven't been able to find any information on it.

Eternal with the Red Shadowmoon figure for unlimited Ultimate gauge is probably the best character in the game. He cuts through shields like butter, does insane damage, and still retains some of his combo options while transformed. The final Survival mission sucks, but it's worth the trouble.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
So I take it for Fourze his switches are tied to normal attacks then, rather than switching them?

Can you please measure different loading times except the one before the start of the mission? In BW2 it took like unacceptable amounts of time to even load character select screen, god forbid you accidentally press X at any point and end up being booted in the previous menu... you will lose at least a minute of your time loading previous menu and going back to the one you were at...

Found out some interesting info on GameFaqs, it seems when you Level Up a Rider to 60, 70, 80, 90, and 99 you get a boatload of points that you can use to quickly level up other Riders, thus focusing on one Rider at first might be beneficial as opposed to rotating.

I mean, it isn't fast, but seems equal to the original BW.

Though when choosing a character you have to wait a few seconds for the character portrait to load.

Sorry, been caught up in the Off-topic and totally missed this. Only have the Vita version. :(

Question for everyone: What contributes to rankings? I can't seem to get one above a C ranking. It's whatever now, but I don't want that to affect me unlocking things.

My thoughts after playing it for about a couple of hours on PS4.

- I like it more than BW2 so far. I like the increased stage variety and some of the verticality they added.
- It still looks budget as fuck.
- Ghost sucks so far. Obviously he's incomplete, but he's just a shit version of Fourze. I feel like if Boost and the parka changes were added to his standard moveset, he'd be really fun. But that's for the next game.
- Drive is pretty good. His move layout reminds me of Kiva but with more nuance and more stuff to do. His Tri + O is too good for crowds.
- Mach is not very good so far, but I haven't unlocked all his signal bikes.
- Gaim is now really good. Jinba Lemon too stronk.
- Faiz, Decade and Hibiki are still murder machines.
- I like the new assist system a lot. It's useful. That tag double kick seems to instakill.

Here's a guide to unlocking certain characters.

The ranking system is heavily weighted towards the difficulty multiplier. Getting a B on Normal is basically impossible. Gear up your characters, and run the levels on higher difficulties. You'll get ranks easily then.

The Double Rider Kick is buggy as fuck though because it lacks any impact and pretty much never hits the foe physically, though it hurts them and is pretty powerful. Still neat especially as some have some unique dialogue like Drive and Mach and Zeronos and Den-O. Plus the Tag System is a godsend in helping level up folks faster.

I got to the Show Riders and I gotta say, I'm impressed. I feel like 8ing put a lot of love in making them feel just right, and they're all rather fun. On the other hand I agree that Ghost, Drive, and Mach feel a bit disappointing---only secondary I've got is Zeronos (no Altair yet) so I'm interested in seeing how much effort was put into them.

Ghost is disappointing, but Drive? Not at all. Hell, Drive is my fallback character for "okay this is actually hard" missions. His Type Wild spinning slash alone is enough to make him one of the better characters.

Have to say I'm disappointed with the (lack of) difficulty in this game. Just B-ranked one of the later stages on Hell difficulty with a Lv. 27 Baron. With B-rank figures. Like I get that there's a few absurdly difficult stages, mostly in Survival mode, but by and large the game's way too easy even on Hell.

I'll take low difficulty with the chance of still dying over getting one shot from behind for the whole game like the last Survival mission. This game's hardest difficulty pales in comparison to Sengoku BASARA 4 Sumeragi, but at least it's relatively fair. I think the last survival mission makes the bosses do more damage than normal, because I run Hell mode just fine otherwise.

The survival mode is too short, sadly. I went through it in about an hour, not including the 20-30 minutes of failed attempts on the last level. Does going through it more than once unlock more figures? I only have a handful left to get in the story, and the rest is going to be a tedious grind through leveling everyone to 50.

Once you get a character to 60, every 10 levels you'll get a ton of Rider Soul points you can use to level other characters. So it's not actually going to be that difficult to get everyone to 50.

Garren actually has this as an attack in the game, hold Square and he'll pretend to be hurt---but if an enemy attacks will shoot them in the chest.

I LOVE THIS GAME!

Any more updates on Vita performance? I'm interested in importing down the line.

So that bar under Ghost's driver is supposed to be something called a Hero Charge. When you fill that up and then do a Square string into a Triangle special, like Musashi, Robin Hood or whoever, he gets a power up based on the Hero you used. I don't know what power ups you get from each hero though.

I'm sticking to Faiz, Kaixa and Black at the moment. Once I get them to Lv.99, I can start dumping points into other characters to level them up.

Black is slightly more complex than I thought, but he's still kind of basic, much like he was in the show. He has couple of ways to charge up his specials which is kind of cool. Apart from just holding Tri or O, if you have a fully charged Kingstone (hold R1 for a few seconds), you can charge up by holding Sq during his attack string, but he loses his automatic Kingstone Flash counter. His Rider Punch is too good on mobs.

I'd say it's serviceable. There are heavy slowdowns all over the place, but they don't really dampen my enjoyment much. I love the variety of characters and stages. It's very fun.

Those one-on-one fights against the main villains are pretty good, sometimes in these games those levels can be dull but the Heart fight had me on the edge of my seat.

Where's this Gold Chaser form from? Did i accidentally skip an episode or was it in a movie?

There's a direct-to-DVD "Chaser Gaiden" coming in the spring, the DLC ties into that.

Wonder if the DLC characters will have missions tied to them? Be interesting to see them do one slightly based on Chaser Gaiden including having Accel involved.

I don't suppose there's a decent guide to what all the figures do yet? I'm trying to find out how many figures are the same their BW2 versions and what some of the new figures do, particularly those double rider figures. A lot of those seem to have effects tied to getting 100 KOs.

The patch was just a "stability/bugfix" patch. And it most likely also added Spectre's data in preparation for his release on Thursday.

Neat to see Grateful Dead!

Disappointed Spectre's Ultimate isn't Houdini though...

He's pretty boring and feels thrown together, honestly. His form changes are single moves, he has the Shadow Dash Rider Cancel, but no way to get anything good off of it. All his moves have tons of startup and don't flow together at all. I don't understand what his R1/D-Pad Down move does, though. He gets an aura around him, but it doesn't seem to make a difference in how he fights.

Mach + Spectre "Siscon" Tag Team though...

I guess the new theme in Rider is the tertiary Rider wanting to bang the secondary's sister though with Chase and Kiriko and now Alain and Kanon...
