The Witcher 3 is now the Most Awarded game of all time. (Currently at 251 awards)

Some of the attitudes from people from both sides are cringe-worthy. TLOU fans need to stop being salty that another game finally got more awards while TW3 fans need to stop using the awards as some validation that TLOU somehow sucks now just because TW3 has one more award than it. Grow up people and just enjoy the games for what they are.

I'm curious as to what aspects of the game are so great, that even with so so game play it makes up for it? Just curious

Usually if I find a game amazing, it's largely due to game play and everything else is cherry on top. Is the game play forgiven here because of other aspects of the game? If so, which

Again, curious, as I've been leaning on trying this game for awhile now
Lastly, I mostly okay Japanese rpgs, so not too sure what I'm getting into

I won't argue with them. It will likely be my game of 2016 as well if B&W is as good as HoS. Already itching to get started with another playthrough.

Well deserved. W3 took me a while to get into, but damn was it good once I was hooked. The main story was so long and well told. There's still so much to do after completing it. I recently completed and plan on getting the DLC soon. It was one of those games that after completing I was glad I paid full price for it.

Have read every post in this thread, and I don't think anyone has said TLOU sucks, maybe one said he didn't like it.

Well deserved for this Game, for me it was the perfect game.congrats to CDPR.

There are only a few games that I'd wish I could erase them from my memory so I could experience them for the first time all over again.

...This game is one of them

Clocked 173 hours on it!

Every year I feel such a disconnect from these industry and press awards. They never line up with my own experience. I don't really take them that seriously.

It would have got my award. Easily the best game I played last year.

Some of the posts in this thread are shameful. Some people need to grow up a bit and not take this stuff so seriously.

And to think its from a smallish, scrappy team and not one of the big American AAA devs.

Absolutely phenomenal game. Good for them.

For me this game surpassed MGS1 as my all time favorite game. Over the past 4 months or so I've almost played 400 hours. I still jump in and check out random question marks on my map (still lots left). I can't wait for Blood and Wine. I feel like I'm ripping off CDPR by only paying 25$ for the season pass.

In all honesty I enjoyed TW2 more. TW3 was just a bit too heavy on the repetition and monotony, and too much of it didn't properly reward your time, Eg most loot being redundant after a point, and only Witcher gear actually being worth a damn. If they just down scaled the game a touch, or refined it so there was less typical open world dullness or unnecessary narrative lengthening, I think it could have been a much better game.

Oh, and yea the combat was definitely pretty cumbersome. They need to make it far more fluid and precise. Still wasn't nearly as bad as Eldar Scrolls combat though.

I enjoyed Witcher 2 more than Witcher 3 as well, but that's not really saying much about Witcher 3 for me, I still love that game. The narrative just felt much more compelling in 2. But If Blood and Wine is on-par or better than Hearts of Stone, then Witcher 3 might finally overtake Witcher 2 for me. Hearts of Stone pretty much made the game on-par with W2 for me, incredible expansion.

That hair, lol he created an updraft when he stood up.

Lol, Geralt was about to go Super Saiyan.

Never played a Witcher game, but looking forward to playing this one. I'm currently reading through the books (up to Blood of the Elves right now) to get into the world/lore, and they're pretty enjoyable. Unfortunately, the last book in the series in only being translated in 2017, so it'll be a while before I jump into W3.

Btw, are the expansions post-game content, or stuff you do while exploring the world?

Ehh...that's not really the case anymore. The Witcher 3's budget was around $82 million and CDPR's almost 300 developers strong now.

Not smallish by any means.

I wish it was set to release sooner but I doubt it will be released before May.

The Witcher 3/Bloodborne/Fallout/MGSV all had enough widespread appeal that I really don't think it was a factor. If we were looking at GTA V and Gone Home in 2013, that would be a different story.

Edit: Looking back through this conversation, I'm really not sure what point I'm trying to make here :p
Bloodborne definitely does not have the same mainstream appeal as those others.

MGSV is my favorite of the rest, but it's easy to understand why W3 got most of the awards instead.

But back them there were more sites giving up GOTY awards, so, TLOU had more chances of getting more GOTY awards.

Doesn't matter honestly. GTAV is bigger than anything TW3 had to face last year. That's why it was so shocking to see TLOU win at all that year when all signs pointed to GTAV having it locked up.

2015 was a down year but Well deserved. Not many games could stand up to it regardless. Witcher 3 and bloodborne were fantastic in a sea of bad AAA games last year

Fallout 4 having any outside of "falloutfanswearethevaultdwellers.com" is surprising too

I still have Witcher 3 sitting in front of my TV unopened. Stupid SFV taking all my play time, I got to get to this and MGS5 before I die...

I haven't touched SFV in about a week. Started Wicther 3 sometime last week. I'm obsessed with it now. If you would have told me before that, that this is what I'd be doing with my time instead of SFV, I'd have said you are nuts.

Congrats. I like the side quest structure a lot but the combat just kill it for me, talk about worse than chopping wood log... I guess this just is just modern WRPG issue, since Skyrim combat is just as bad.

Also, people complain about Ciri being "Mary Sue", while I think Geralt is a much bigger "Gary Stu".

More media are giving out GOTYs award, and it's not competing with GTA5.

edit: didn't see the last quote of OP, I'm surprised.

I got Bored after 20 hours of non-stop talking with sprinkled in janky combat. The definition of how to mass market a game, make it pretty and open world and people will over look the game part.

I put it above Skyrim (hot garbage) and below average games like DA:I

As someone who likes the Witcher but thinks Witcher 2 was grossly overrated, how would I feel about Witcher 3? Is the combat still in the AC/Arkham style of mindlessly click until dead? Is it a true open world game? Because I remember people saying the same about Witcher 2 and it definitely wasnt.

Looking like it hasnt changed....

At least BB got 31, that's the most a FromSoft and Souls-like game has ever gotten. So we are slowly getting there. Shame DS3 might not make it once again this year if its going against giants like Uncharted 4, Deus Ex and possibly Zelda.

Is Open World alright, nothing like how Witcher 2 was, combat is an upgrade from witcher 2 and has an option to make it "better".

Outstanding achievement... We need to adjust for inflation
of entities that hand out awards
to get a better view of things, though.

It's difficult not to compare the Souls games - I am pretty new to them but after playing DS2 and then going to Witcher 3, man, the combat felt horrible.

Good on those that enjoy W3 but for me there was far too much sitting around watching cut scenes about characters I didn't give a sh*t about.

The Souls games are just action and levelling - something which I am after as I couldn't care less about a fictional story.

Combat isn't as fine tuned, but the total package is leagues above any of the souls games to me, so I much prefer it.
