NX Controller Rumor [Up5: Original was fake, and thus this is too]

You should also check Wii U pad thread. The Wii remote sucked IMO but it had fantastic functionality as a motion controller while Wii U gamepad functionality didn't resonate with anyone.

Are we also forgetting the the Wii was successful in spite of the shitty motion controls?

After the novelty wore off, no one gave a shit. See: Every third party release.

Besides, how many great Nintendo games even took advantage of the controller?? Not nearly enough to justify the control scheme.

All they had to do was make a bare-bones machine that plays Nintendo games. With fucking buttons... It's all they needed.

I was actually feeling optimistic about the NX, but now I'm losing any hope. My only thought is that they are after the mobile market, but Nintendo needs to understand that these people will never be interested in something like this.

This will be the Wii U all over again. The final nail will be the specs, which I bet will be on par with PS4/Xbone. Both of which will likely be replaced in 2-3 years even if the upgrade rumors aren't true.

So your hands cover 1/3 of the play screen?

Hard to believe Nintendo who puts controls and gameplay before everything else has went the no button route. I mean they still used single touch Resistive screens on the 3DS and WiiU when multi touch capacitive touch were the norm, as it offers more accurate touch controls.

I've never used a haptic feedback device before. Can you compare it to anything? Will it really feel like pressing a physical button? Seems like science fiction technology lol

Ive tried it before its very like pressing a button. I tried it at PAX there was some type of demo using the tech. You kinda have to try it to believe it I didnt before I tried it.

Don't know what to think of this. There's nothing right now that can better substitute actual buttons but it's hard to take a position when Nintendk won't reveal it officially.

I also hope this is not the final consumer design. And I wish it had a D-pad at the very least. 2D platformers with a stick or touch screen controls suck!

If anyone wants to try how the buttons would be like, they can put this picture on a phone and try

Does anyone have the proportions of the patent drawings? i would like to make a more precise mock up of how the buttons would be

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Guys calm down, this is just a picture of Nintendo's new handheld.

Edit: It was a joke.

If this is the hand held I actually really like it. Face buttons are useful for fast paced action games but that's really it. It does limit the potential but I do think it would work for the modern handheld market.

Im gonna make an assumption here.

The WiiU gamepad will work with the NX.

If not, man.. not sure I want to play a console where the controller doesnt have face buttons.

I haven't either, though based on impressions by others here similar technology is already being done and works. But yes, the theory is definitely sound and in theory it's definitely possible to do this stuff. I have no idea how well Nintendo's haptic technology would be, which is why my stance is that if this is real, I'll wait for impressions or an ability to try hands on myself

Perhaps he's wondering why someone would shoot a man before throwing him out of a plane.
Ho would you get the games on that thing? Will it be fully digital then?

I mean, it would line up with the patent that said that there would not be a disk drive for the console.

If real, it has to be the handheld and not the console controller.

The device looks too expensive to be a controller. That was part of the problem with the Wii U, but on the Wii U you can see where the cost compromises were on the gamepad (Low Res screen, no multitouch, not capactive touch).

Not so on this. And, if the plan is to have touch buttons, you would need an accurate touchscreen to even have a prayer of it being usable. A $50 Huawei phone caliber touch capability won't cut it for a console controller.

This thing seems to have too many new and different components in it for it to possibly be a pack-in for a console. I could see it as a handheld, where the touchscreen might not hurt it and a $200-$250 asking price is reasonable at launch. But there's no way I think this is the console controller.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
That this is infact not the handheld but the controller for a console makes this EVEN MORE insane.

Double down on gamepad, now in a weird oval form without buttons. Just fire the entire hardware department into the sun. How fucking clueless could they get?

Christ fuck. Going to be great seeing people walk back from "Mobile gaming is trash due to no buttons/capacative is shit" to "Nintendo bringing fun out of the box innovation!!!!" like clockwork.

What if they offer attachable face buttons or a normal controller and this can be the controller for the console but also a handheld?

I'd say a large quantity of owners in retrospect would say they felt disgruntled that the Pro Controller wasn't part of the base package when they bought a Wii U.

This is like the biggest "if you can't beat em, join em" moment I've seen. They could pull this off. But I guess it's weird how years of trashing mobile controls could get hardcore gamers...this. Lol.

kinda funny that Sony termed the Vita a "Super Oval Design"

this is like the "Uber Oval"

what if it has something insane like wrap-around button shells? that would be a somewhat Nintendo-Like™ Solution

like a 4:3 shell mask for DS compatibility that displayed screens side by side and provided traditional face buttons. they love shit like that

So like different grips/shells that contain buttons? That's crazy enough to work but it would cover up a lot of the screen that they seem keen to show off.
