I would love this if it ends up being the HANDHELD NX. As long as the console has a traditional "pro" controller everything will be fine guys

Yeah man. I always bewildered in these types of threads. People just turn it up to 11 instantly without fail.

Yeah. I mean I'm iffy on the controller, but I'm gonna wait until I see it in action before making a consumer decision lol.

Hell I was iffy on the Wii Remote and hated the Gamepad at first. Loved the Wiimote and the Gamepad felt comfortable.

It could also be that you just tilt the circle pad towards the button you want to hit. That way buttons can be drawn anywhere around it and you still have a physical interaction.
True, but that would make it single analog again which would make camera control a bit rough. Perhaps you can switch button and analog modes via L/R? That would be neat.

I made this really crappy render of what could be an attachment to add physical buttons. I think the minimalism of the screen lends itself to "peripheral heaven"

i'm just trying to picture holding this thing with my big ass hands covering a bunch of the screen

pressing the fucking touch buttons

just terrible and uncomfortable

1. Touch buttons with advanced haptics aren't that bad.

2. Who says the entire screen will be taken up by whatever game you're playing. Most likely portions of the screen will be used for custom control schemes.

3. It's quite literally impossible to gauge the comfort of using the controller based on pictures from an unfinished design.

Actually....ummm..that might would work.

Carry for mobile, insert into dock controller with buttons at home.
!!
Yeah the fact that the leaker said this is for the console proves to me (lol) that the controller and the handheld are one in the same... for this very reason.

OBVIOUSLY the controller will slip into a handle shell (JUST like the patent also demonstrated), but the fact it can slip in and out proves that it's also meant to be portable...

That controller is gonna kill major 3rd party titles from being ported.

Unless Nintendo plans to only port F2P ios games.

Devs doesn't even care doing anything special even with a simple touchpad, I can't imagine them going through all the trouble with a touch screen that big.

I said this in the other thread, but I expect the sticks to be detachable.

Nintendo owns a patent for changeable controls in a handheld device.

They could easily let you replace the right stick with physical buttons or the left stick with a d-pad.

People are making a mountain out of a molehill....again.

That makes me feel better, this is why we need official info.
But how would games that use dual analogues, d-pad, 4 face buttons & shoulder buttons work, like Monster Hunter? Are we going to regress to awkward controls again?
(I don't expect you to answer, I know you're just speculating and keeping positive)

Does anyone have the NX patent image that had the Virtual Reality concept in it?
I'm making a concept that would actually make the NX controller much more understandable.

I look forward to it! Some kind of Gear-VR esque headset mount and the use of a pro-controller would make this a bit more sensible overall. Affordable VR makes sense for Nintendo. If there is no VR component to this as of now I would be surprised if it eventually wasn't used for it sometime down the line. The dimensions and screen space scream for it.

Yeah, unless there is a huge breakthrough on touch buttons that make them actually feel good, I probably won't be getting this on a near future.

Been saying from jump the NX console controller would have a screen. Way before the patents surfaced even.

Looking forward to getting my hands on one.

The ability to add extra buttons for games that might need it. The ability to customize the exact button configuration depending on your individual hands to adjust ergonomics. Because not everyone has identically sized hands. Also, if you prefer a and b (because of their typical function in games) to be one above the other, or one to the right or left of the other, you can do either. And this can make button remapping a lot easier and system wide as opposed to something you need to do for each individual game

Paddles are much better for extra buttons though. Because you dont need to move your thumbs.

Is haptic so good as to make it possible to allow like 6 buttons without it getting confusing? Wouldn't this be incredibly opposite of making a simplified controller?

Button remapping could be done easily with OS settings. I can switch X and O or B and A on Xbox through the settings.

As for ergonomics, that's understandable. That's the only benefit I can imagine. But what good is adjusting the spacing of buttons for a 4 yr old and a 35 yr old if the physical controller itself is the same size?

Wouldnt it be much more sensible to have a XL controller series for bigger people?

I have to seriously question the benefit of haptic feedback if spacing buttons is the big seller.

And yet, I cant think of another reason why this is better than buttons

And at the end of the day, it's not the wow factor, or the technology of haptic feedback that matters

All that needs to be asked is, is this better than buttons? And I cant see that

The ONLY reason I imagine is that Nintendo really wanted to appeal to the market they lost: young gamers who now start gaming with iphones

Is there any reason for this controller other than that?

Also Ubisoft may very well be the only big publisher seriously supporting the NX from day one like they did with the Wii U. I even remember someone was teasing that NX will receive a big 3rd party title which I was guessing to be The Division. I may very well have been right lol.

You apparently do not. It would not address the issue I pointed out at all.

Except that among other things, adding resistance to a screen and creating the sensation of physical buttons is absolutely an aspect of haptic technology. Haptic technology is NOT just adding a vibration when you hit a button or stuff like that
