NX Controller Rumor [Up5: Original was fake, and thus this is too]

I made this really crappy render of what could be an attachment to add physical buttons. I think the minimalism of the screen lends itself to "peripheral heaven"

The screen extending to the edges of the unit still makes no sense. What use is the extra screen if you cant see through your fingers? It's absolute fuckery.

Putting two and two together.

Pushing in the analogs will be acting as face buttons along with the shoulder buttons, and Touch.

Standard controllersroughly offer 16 buttons. 4 face buttons, 4 - dpad, 2 analog, 2 bumpers, 2 triggers, 2 start/select.

NX will be offering 4 buttons based off pictures.

The buttons are on the back, right?

The d-pad is on the back, right?

The ergonomics are on the back, right?
If only Nintendo would talk to us right? Also if I had to bet my money's on this not being the in all cosnumer version you're going to buy. It'll be close but not this one. I expect a few improvements.

Look at the reflection in the first image, then look at Massive's HQ in Sweden

Same tree

Same fucking tree man

Shit
And that Macbook looks like it has a Swedish keyboard too.

But overall this looks terrible. It's like someone made a smaller Vita without buttons...

Why would Nintendo send their console out to die? No one is buying Nintendo because they are Sony or Microsoft-lite.

Fair point, but the lack of 3rd party support didn't do the WiiU any favours. Cross platform ports are needed for those times in between Nintendo 1st party releases

If this really is real, which I still have a hard time wrapping my head around.

Then Nintendo is trying to laterally jump from their traditional demographic, to a new demographic.

OR

This is one of many peripherals in a unified hardware line.

I think that, in the end if they do something like this, it will not involve a reduced screen size, nor will your thumbs be covering the screen. If only because of the complaints and criticism people are making over it.

And a tiny screen to play your game.

Not functional at all :/

Because it allows you to get more freedom with controlling button layouts and ergonomics? Because it allows a game to choose to have a completely different and nonstandard button setup if it wants to? Because most people keep their fingers on or hovering just over buttons anyways?

But it's a gripless oval. Whereabouts on that thing are you planning on sticking your virtual buttons to make it an ergonomic paradise that smokes a traditional controller? The shape's already going to cut into a standard 16:9 display as it is, if you're planning on keeping your fingers hovering over these virtual buttons you're not going to be able to see anything.

In general, I always trust Nintendo, and they don't disappoint me, but if this is real, I'll need a great deal of convincing that I don't need actual buttons. I'll have to see/experience something I don't think is possible to be turned on to this design. But again, Nintendo has my trust by default, and they've earned it over the years, but I'm skeptical of how much I'd enjoy such a device...if indeed it's legit.

I still refuse to believe the patent filing was literally the final design of the unit. Makes no sense.

Also would someone literally label maker confidential on the device? That seems very tacky.

Im sorry but thats awful. Not your work but those sticks right on the damn screen blocking what you see.

Nintendo what in the hell bro

Honestly, I feel like Nintendo is going to set a trend for the future shapes of smart phones.

A week or two ago, I was calling BS of the earlier leaked photos. But now... yeah, looks real. Either that or this is is all an elaborate rouse.

Iwata's final product. You will say "...The fuck!?".

Huge hands blocking part of the screen, and imagine playing Dragon Quest on something like that, I just can't think how it can improve the experience.
I don't know Nintendo..

Deep down I hope this is one of those situations where Nintendo sent out a bunch of different weird ass controllers as dev kits so when they leaked they'd know who leaked it because of the controller design

I think that controller is not going to have gameplay on it. It's going to replicate the DS bottom screen with haptic buttons also. You have to look up at the TV screen.

I hadn't thought of this as a possible solution besides the Pro-controller support. I don't think Nintendo would go this route, but I could see them doing it too. Cool concept.

So if that thing turns out to be true, then...it's still a SUPER unergonomic form.
Looks like it hurts to hold. But well, the Wii U Gamepad in its first iterations was an ergonomic monstrosity as well.
Soooo.....I'm starting to not know what to think of this.
This thing looks so small. And I really don't want the full pad to be a screen, because 10% of that screen will be always blocked by your thumbs.
The sticks LOOK okay. If they feel like the Vita sticks then that's very cool indeed (Vita's analog sticks are pretty awesome).

I'm at a total loss.
My fanboyish trust in Nintendo will never fade, I guess.
If I could I would'Ve already pre-ordered the console and I will buy it day 1 no matter what.
But this controller gives me hand cramps just by looking at it.

WHOA! I hadn't thought of that.
This would change my whole viewpoint of the design for the better.
I'm really looking forward to this year's E3.

I will now make up crazy theories about this controller in my mind. You guys keep on guessing.

If it has triggers I guess it could work for fps.

This controller is going to be so expensive again!!!!

no buttons...
I sincerely think that was a terrible idea... but we'll see.

Gaming on touchscreens (mobile) sucks, like really really sucks but again... we'll see.

You are lacking buttons that would undoubtedly get in the way.

Good luck getting third parties to cater to whatever resolution Nintendo uses for an oval display as well.

Surely a dev could choose to use whatever part of the screen they like, even if that was just a rectangle in the centre rather than the whole screen?

Is there anything to read about some revolutionary and actually good haptic feedback on touchscreen devices in development?

Links please

Haptic feedback with touch buttons isn't an adequate replacement for real buttons. I don't know what the fuck Nintendo is doing, but I hope there's something important we don't know about this thing.
