NX Controller Rumor [Up5: Original was fake, and thus this is too]

I swear to god: I saw an exactly the same shaped device in a shop a while ago.
even the size was kinda the same. It didn't feature those "analog sticks" afair
I dunno what it was though.

therefor still calling it fake

sidenote: In times of cheap 3D printers almost everyone could come up with a NX prototype(s)

So finally the Ubi leaks, and The Division late port?

I was in team Fake but :/ I still think this is horrible. Touch screen + haptic is good, but not meant to replace ALL the other control schemes. And the free form display doesn't add anything to the games.

If anything, leaks like this will soften the blow.

Could you imagine if they just whipped this fucking thing out at E3 for the first time? The meltdowns would be beyond legendary.

*Puts on conspiracy hat

Maybe this is a "leak" from Nintendo to get initial community feedback.

That this is infact not the handheld but the controller for a console makes this EVEN MORE insane.

Double down on gamepad, now in a weird oval form without buttons. Just fire the entire hardware department into the sun. How fucking clueless could they get?

Christ fuck. Going to be great seeing people walk back from "Mobile gaming is trash due to no buttons/capacative is shit" to "Nintendo bringing fun out of the box innovation!!!!" like clockwork.

EXACTLY

People didnt trade in their Ipads for the WiiU and I do not see how this will instantly make things any different

Why is there and HDMI port coming out of the top though?

Is this thing the actual console itself? The leaker said its the controller for the console, but is the controller and the console itself one in the same?

There's an HDMI port on top? There's an HDMI cord on the desk, but where does it say there's an HDMI port anywhere?

I hope at least the final form has handles, like a Wii Classic Pro:

Doesn't look like something I would let my kids play with, maybe the pictures are deceptive (if real) but that looks like it could be pretty fragile and I could see younger children breaking it or cracking that screen pretty easily
Nintendo isn't known for having flimsy hardware. A few cracked ds hinges aside.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
That battery is gonna die fast or its gonna be expensive controller.

....

Would it kill them to just make a normal console on par or more powerful than a Ps4 and call it the Nintendo Entertainment System?

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, this is Nintendo after all, but I am heavily skeptical right now of anything that relies on touch screen BS as this seems to. We'll see!

To answer that question, yes it would kill them.

You want Nintendo do to what everyone else is doing?

Bit boring, mate.

Nintendo is strangely leaky. Or this is a pretty good fake. When they formally unveil all they've got there will be bedlam.
That controller looks flimsy and awkward to hold imo.

As strange as this might sound (or possibly disrespectful), I think the recent level of leakiness is a direct effect of Iwata's passing. The company's in a weird place right now, almost like a class with a new substitute teacher halfway through the semester.

Sooooo, what would the handheld look like? Or is this the handheld?

I personally don't mind the lack of buttons, I think intuitive controls should have as little buttons as humanly possible.

But why is the whole controller a screen though? I don't want to look at my hands when I play on my tv...
This is the NX Console's controller. Assuming that there is an NX Handheld, it'll probably look similar to this (except with actual parts to run games on its own, a battery, a cartridge slot, etc.).

So I think my biggest issue with touch screen interfaces for controlling games is the virtual analog stick, not so much touching the screen for action stuff. If Nintendo provides a decent solution for feedback and makes the retail version a bit more ergonomic, a design like this would be fine for me.

Granted, the majority of the games I enjoy are RPGs with the occasional shooter thrown in there.

If true, I have no idea who this is for, how games would play, why that would be comfortable to hold etc.

If fake then bravo cause it's kind of convincing...

What if that IS the console, and the screen/thumbsticks are only used when it's plugged into a controller accessory that has buttons?

wat if guise

wat if

We had a patent for replaceable buttons, I imagine they can be attached and detached from the screen depending on the game. Would be cool to switch between a 4 and 6 button setup.

NOPE!

Count me out! Shame because I was at least looking forward to the follow up to Mario Kart 8 since it's the best Kart racer ever.

But I'm not playing shit on that thing. No way no how. It's going to brick.

Peace out Nintendo.

Maturity, bitches.
Well if that's a Swedish model, the NX controller may actually be a bit fatter for the rest of us since that might just be the flat pack version.

SPOILER: Columbus finds America
After using iPad for *heavy* gaming in the last 3 years I have ZERO problem with touch screen buttons...

...however...

That's fine for a handheld, touch screen buttons when you need to look at your tv is a dumb idea.

This is supposed to be the controller for the console.

I guess Nintendo is nearly close to revealing the NX but I agree, these leakers are ruining everything.

Imagine if we had no knowledge prior to the announcement of these controllers...

I disagree. Look at the overall negative reaction to this controller design. Look at it. Now imagine this is E3 and and we never saw anything like this until then. What do you think reactions would be about? Forget however "good" the system is and all the various functionality. Controller sucks. Nintendo sucks. Goodbye. If nothing else, this softens blow. Having a high possibility of this being what the controller is, that opens the door people having already terrible expectations and for Nintendo to be able to prove those expectations wrong and show exactly why this is somehow a good idea.

Basically, let folks write it off now with low expectations so they can be surprised. Otherwise, this only comes out during E3, no one will pay attention to how it functions. Just lots of "lulz oval nintendo"

Yes. Nintendo needs to offer something different. Nobody is buying Nintendo hardware anymore unless Nintendo gives them a unique reason to.

Like, what did the Wii U controller having a screen offer? Basically nothing. One or two cool gimmicks in certain games, but that's it.

I want to be looking at my large 58" TV when I play games. I don't want to have to look down at my lap. Moreso than that, I want to actually be able to feel the buttons I need to be touching.

It just doesn't seem practical or worth the cost it will almost certainly add to the overall unit. The concept is cool, but I don't see it adding to anything, and even detracting in certain circumstances.

I'm also worried how this works for the TV

I don't want to be looking down seeing if my fingers are on buttons while I play call of duty or whatever.

I get it when looking at the screen. But what do you do when looking at the TV?

No physical buttons. Nintendo going mobile confirmed.

I like certain mobile touch screen games ie ones that are designed around mobile and no on screen buttons. But everything else I simply won't touch (literally) so if it turns out a lot like that then I'm not going anywhere near this thing.

But wow no third parties guaranteed for the NX with such a different controller again.

I mean obviously my opinion is based on little information but it's not looking good if it works this way.

I dont know

im of 2 minds

first of all im saving judgement

and second, there's such a big regular game overload anyway that I weirdly appreciate Nintendo trying their own thing, even separate from VR. Their games can be really great when they're in control of their own hardware to this degree

I comend them for trying stuff. It's like a left turn. We all want to play Mario and Jump with A but eventually you gotta go a certain route, and they already succeeded once, at least in terms of the market.

Eh

i'd just wait

Let's set all business reasons why this could be a catastrophe (production will not be cheap) aside:

- I'm OK with the shape
- I'm OK with the big screen
- I'm OK with the sticks and the mouse wheels
- I'm not OK with no buttons unless this is some kind of Harry Potter magic and they feel like real buttons (which again, business nightmare)

Just reveal it already Nintendo, you're losing control over the message AND TOU HAVEN'T EVEN REVEALED IT YET HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE
If is real... if have buttons on the back i am ok. No buttons not going to buy.
