NX Controller Rumor [Up5: Original was fake, and thus this is too]

What if we did something like this? We used the middle of the screen for important information, and the outside for custom controller layouts. Obviously Nintendo could add embellishments so it doesn't look so plain.

The right control stick, in this case, substitutes the A button.

This thing is obviously smaller than the gamepad, so the UI would look a lot better and would be tailored especially for that screen. Another user and judged the controller to be about 6" from stick to stick and about 8" across.

Doing it this way makes sure that the players view of the game isn't covered up by anything.

I really, REALLY hope this is not true.

No face buttons is such a ridiculous idea. Even if it has haptic touch buttons it wouldnt come close to actual buttons.

Also, the ergonomics seems to be so bad.

Why cant Nintendo just make a traditional console anymore? These gimmicks got old the moment they announced Wii U.

If this is indeed true... then this company really has no clue about anything in this industry.
Do you really think a standard controller will save them? Xbox and PS gamers aren't suddenly going to switch to Nintendo because of a normal looking controller. And people sure as hell won't buy CoD, etc, on a Nintendo platform after all these years. There just isn't enough room in the market for 3 nearly identical consoles to succeed. PS2, Xbox and GC practically proved that.

I like the Wii U gamepad, so I'm not freaking out at this, I can't wait to see how is really working.

But oh boy, if I'm not laughing my ass off about all the people that in the past months were all for burying Wii U and moving all the Wii U games to NX and how NX was the second coming of the Console without even know what it is.

Oh boy, this is so fun now!

All children play comfortably on iPads and tablets so well done to Nintendo for thinking outside the box for this in such a way. I'm sure many people will enjoy the console.

They need gimmicks as they will not compete in the same space as the PS4 (hell even the One isn't competing!).

It looks uncomfortable but Nintendo always peak my interest.

Didnt they try all this with the Wii U and that screen tho?

One thing's for certain. If they have NX marketing with that screen front n center and the console is in the background....

Expect less sells than the Wii U.

But...their mobile games will probably fit right in for this controller/handheld. Expect Nintendo to go all in on mobile in the next 3-4 years.

Someone in Sweden please go to that location and vandalize the shit out of the tree. Or even chop it down. We need to direct our anger somewhere and all we have right now is that fucking tree.

Haven't read much of the thread yet, but the leaker name is Finnish and so is the laptop layout.

edit: Layout could be also Swedish but the name is definitely Finnish.

What you don't know is the ninjas planted trees again outside Massive just before handing over the NX controller prototype just in case something like this happened.

If that's the dev kit version of the controller (which it pretty likely is) then I hope the ergonomics of the final version will be better... I can already imagine holding that thing and the edges digging into my palms pretty uncomfortably.

Also, no buttons really... turns me off. I hate touch screen controls without a stylus, using your fingers to smudge up the screen is going to be awful. And I can't stress enough that physical buttons are important for proper feedback on where your thumb is and also for muscle memory.

Scroll wheel shoulder buttons could still be cool but everything else... I'm not super hot on right now. The official reveal better be good.

Assuming this leak isn't a good phony.

For the prototype I can dig it but when it comes to actually using the thing I just don't know.

Ok so if that is the final controller without physical buttons, one way or another it will be able to play a game as complex as Zelda U, that is for certain. I guess those haptic feed back buttons will be whats used? I don't know man, they would have to be absolutely on point and feel wonderful for experienced gamers to want to use them in their competitive games.

I could see casuals going for it because with no buttons it looks fairly inviting and easy to use.

Hopefully with the final product well get the handles/grips like we saw in the patent.

If anything...NX might actually save the WIi U. I can see myself playing on that before this.

I'am hoping this isn't real but it is looking more and more likely that it is, Nintendo really hasn't learned anything from the failure of the Wii U.

The NX Console better support the GameCube Adapter. If not, competitive Smash on the NX Console will be DoA (sadly, I wish I was joking about this).

I wonder, when shit like this happens, you think people at Nintendo are freaking the fuck out? Are heads rolling?

They'll be thinking about damage control, which is ironic since they're having to do the same thing with the Wii U ceasing production.

In fact, they might be using their own Detective-GAF to figure out who leaked it.

Honestly, they deserve this - people have been waiting for 3 months to see/hear anything about it, it was bound to happen at some point.

I mean, all the info in these rumors points to it being exactly this, so it once again comes down to exactly how good it feels and how well it works and possibly cost of a controller, durability, and other issues not related to explicit gameplay

Exactly this referring to my second point right? Sorry I've only just jumped in to this thread and I didn't even follow the other leak that much. If it's exactly like what is displayed in the gif then cool. I still think that design should be a handheld console, though, there's no point in trying the gamepad again, imo.

This looks sexy. Actually, the whole oval thing is sexy, but this is practical

Ah, the reactions are an endless source of comedy gold. So many people freaking out when they know literally nothing about how well it might actually work. For all we know the haptic touch tech might actually work well and the controller might actually be fine to hold.

I mean, for all people complain about Nintendo's 'gimmicks', they at least actually work well when properly implemented in-game (unlike, say, Microsoft, which released two garbage motion control devices that nobody uses anymore), and any deficiencies are usually fixed up in revisions (mainly for handhelds, pretty much every handheld generation has had a major revision that is a massive improvement over the first iteration). I don't see Nintendo half-assing this one. If they're dropping physical face buttons and the d-pad, it wouldn't be unless they know the haptic tech works well enough to replace them. I'm withholding my verdict until we actually get hands-on reports with this thing, but I'm willing to give Nintendo the benefit of the doubt for now.

It's not like screaming about it hysterically is going to change anything, honestly.
