NX Controller Rumor [Up5: Original was fake, and thus this is too]

Didn't the patent show that the analog stick would double as buttons? They had a picture of different actions around the stick on the touchscreen and tilting toward those actions acted like a button press. Seems slower than buttons but maybe the mechanics of the stick help somehow.

All this talk about trees. In fact, it's probably the only time any of y'all paid attention to any tree in your lives!

I'm all about them trees.

If anything, these leaks might make Nintendo save face and announce the NX early to curve the initial reactions being to these pictures.

Come on Nintendo, better hurry on that announcement. or else.

Or else shit. This won't matter in the long term. What will matter is having the software ready to sell us on whatever it is they are doing and to show it at the same time. Thats all that matters.

I mean aside from this, I'll again provide this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JelhR2iPuw0

It uses a screen developed so that it'll actually rise and create a 3D screen that can change depending on the application. And it's actually a product that has been developed enough that it was able to be shown off. I don't know how expensive it is to produce (Though just because it's cutting edge doesn't necessarily imply that it'll be costly to manufacture, because it might just be hard to develop a working system) but it's a completely possible option if this is real

Legit question: So if this pad is real and is the sole controller for the console, they are basically saying we do not want any ports of any past, present or future PS4 / XB1 titles at all?

Because no traditional button layout will fuck 80% of them and if they insist on selling a classic controller separately they can think again

So after having a console tied down by the cost of a gimmicky peripheral Nintendo is doubling down on the gimmick? Not sure what to think here. This better be the best handheld/controller(hah)/tablet ever.

I really hope this is fake/wrong/optional. It looks fragile, uncomfortable with 0 ergonomics and terrible controls.

top right. you can see a reflection that shows the window next to this person's desk, and the upper edge of the window frame is curved instead of straight. this implies that the window isn't rectangular, but rather the top of the window is curved. so all of these images of N headquarters and Massive are showing windows with straight upper edges.

i don't think it's those buildings. maybe something like this.

this is wild.

It's possible (and even likely imo if this is true) that Nintendo might be using technology like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JelhR2iPuw0 for digital buttons. This would solve pretty much every problem digital buttons have, since the screen is no longer actually flat. If they're doing this, they've probably partnered with a company that developed a technology like this. I feel like once you've got a production system in place, this type of technology might not (though I can't guarantee this without any info on exactly how it's manufactured) be that hard to produce once you know how to make it work. So it might not actually cost Nintendo much to mass produce a system with this type of cutting edge tech, and that it's cost might derive largely from licensing to use it

lol....it would be insanely cheaper to just use physical buttons. Also I would rather not have them that way......remember how awesome it was to send in your WiiU Pad for repair and wait forever due to Nintendo's support? No thanks!

Okay Nintendo, keep doing whatever weird control shit you're doing I guess.
It would be nice to see Ninty's console be on par with the Microsoft and Sony ones in terms of third party library but that's never gunna happen.
I hope this is great and does well but I don't see a console designed in this way really attracting people who aren't already on the Nintendo train.

What is this clear camera lens bullshit. Where's my 2004 Nokia camera phone quality pictures?!

No buttons makes this less of a buy if true.

Has anybody posted to the Wii Remote reveal thread yet? Similar overreactions in there, too.

Why is the first thought to compare it to the Wiimote? The GamePad wasn't a totally traditional controller either which is why Nintendo released the Classic Controller. You also obviously have the screen aspect. And quite possibly you have the cost being similar. The things that made the Wiimote so appealing was that it came with a cheap console and it was very simple to use. Often times rather than pressing any buttons you'd just move it in a motion similar to real world objects. Whether it be a baseball bat or a golf club. That's what made it such an easy crossover to people that never really played games before.

Obviously making any sort of final conclusions about the design is premature considering we don't really know any details about how Nintendo plans to make it work. But at a glance i'd certainly think "Wii U" before "Wii".

I don't really see how haptic buttons will fuck 80% of them

I'm guessing the point of this controller is to offer developers flexibility in button mapping, which is an interesting concept to explore. Devs could now literally put buttons anywhere they want or likewise take out buttons!

I'm not as deluded as I make myself out to be
Why's everyone think the NX is a home console or a hybrid?

Isn't the 3DS due for replacement before the Wii U? It's probably just the new game boy, headphone jack makes sense, form factor makes sense.

It'd be like an iPhone with analogue sticks and some onscreen buttons

Goddamnit!!!

*siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*

I seriously hope that isn't the main controller people are forced to use.
If that's the only option you can kiss playing fighting games goodbye.

We don't know ANYTHING about this controller. Including if it's real.
If Nintendo has gone all in on haptic feedback with good enough technology it could be fine, or better than fine, great.
Haptic feedback like on Steam Controller? Which is worthless compared to physical buttons/sticks.
As a Nintendo fan I'm genunely worried. :/

Nintendo is stopping manufacturing Wii U's at the end of 2016.

It's not like screaming about it hysterically is going to change anything, honestly.

But I mean, screaming hysterically did work to rollback most of the xbone's worst features such as the kinect requirement. We even got backwards compatibility. I say people should scream even harder.
