NX Controller Rumor [Up5: Original was fake, and thus this is too]

Wait, how the hell are you supposed to run & jump? Holding 2 buttons on a touch screen isn't possible, isn't it? I've never really played many platformers on a phone, but isn't that an issue for games like Mario?

In regards to the design of the controller, it looks really slick. Too bad the lack of physical buttons are deal breaking, especially on a home console where you shouldn't look down constantly to figure out where the on screen buttons are. Oh well, I'll inevitable pick up the handheld version for Animal Crossing and Pokémon.

Multi-touch screens have been a thing for a long time now

Nintendo reading this thread like

Nintendo having to convert the haters again.

Nintendo winning in the end as usual

but nintendo is not winning like usual... the only spike in sales they've had in a while on the console front was with the wii. Its clearly been on the decline on the other ones. Their only strong market has been the portable with the GBA, DS and hopefully the 3DS stands.

...that looks like the stand for the TV lol

Edit: oh you fixed it haha

lol yeah my thought train hit a dead end when i realized that the space between the windows was unrealistic and then i wondered why i couldn't see the MONITOR ST- .....ooohhhhh.

still though, we need maybe another angle of the window to know the size/shape/scale etc before we can narrow down a building.

This is insane. What you're saying is fine for phone games, but doesn't work as a control method for traditional console games. So - that's totally cool to play games designed for a phone, but these control methods are useless for more traditional games. Which is fine if Nintendo won't be making much of these anymore.

Just don't expect 3rd party support.

It's useless to YOU because you're not used to the control input. I'm not opposed to touch buttons, I'm opposed as fuck to touch analog sticks. My nephew can play sonic cd almost as well as I can on his tablet. It's what they've grown up with. "Traditional" controls are not objectively better.

You will be able to "feel" where the buttons are.

When has Nintendo stated that the NX is not a Regular/Handheld combination?
This has been the speculation as long as I can remember.

Iwata did before his death. Someone else can get the link cause I dont feel like it lol

The speculation is an Internet thing because it seems like the only thing people can understand based on what Iwata has said about shared libraries and whatnot.

Happy to be proven right that it's real, but I'm a lot less happy that ill need to deal with this nonsense to play my Zeldas and my Marios

My hands are pretty sweaty basically a lot of the time. This console will be mu private hell

I will not be happy at all if this is it. I have huge hands, my hands sweat like a motherfucker sometimes when I'm gaming and lastly I FUCKING HATE TOUCH BUTTONS IN A TOUCH SCREEN. for example I TRIED with Downwell on my Iphone 6s but the lack of feedback when pressing a button and my huge hands made it uncomfortable, complicated and NOT FUN AT ALL. Sorry, but I will NOT support this thing if this is real and I love having my dose of Nintendo games in between gaming on pc and other consoles.

You wanna know why this controller doesn't have buttons?

Listen to this week's bombcast, 2:55:15.

An entire generation of gamers now exists who use hardware without buttons and think that traditional consoles are wastes of money and are designed for old people.

It's happened. We are the old men yelling at clouds from our porches. An entire generation of gamers is looking to pass us by. Nintendo isn't looking to get into a fist fight with Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo is looking to get into a fist fight with iOS and Android. And considering how poorly those ecosystems are managed when it comes to gaming, it's a fight they can win.

This is pretty spot-on.

I totally get why Nintendo is going this direction. Unfortunately for me, it's a direction I have absolutely zero interest in. Not even my favorite franchises can get me to use something like that. I'm not playing on a controller with no face buttons.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Yes, you are right.

Ahh the stick to replace the buttons. I missed that.

Its the handheld folks.

Ok, The Wiimotes did have only 1 stick. They did go to 2 for the Wii U. Maybe they are going back to 1 stick?

Cant be for home console, its missing too many other buttons. Shoulder buttons must gonna press in like L/R shoulder buttons. Like how mouse wheels do now. Still got the scroll wheels but they also press in.

Ding ding ding.

My nieces and nephew were in town earlier this month, and were fucking BORED TO TEARS when I tried to play traditional video games with them. They just wanted to play on their tablets and iPod touches.
The change isn't coming it's already happening.

Don't do this to us man :(

What you need to ask yourself is what is more likely and also what you would prefer. Do you think Nintendo is more likely to have a basic, and I stress basic, haptic feedback or the fairly new Apple taptic or magic gel buttons? And what would you prefer, physical and responsive buttons, or digital?

It's one thing to embrace new technology. It's another to embrace it before it's viable and before the new technology is superior to the existing tech.

To put it simply: Would you rather have a cheaper, superior method of input or a more expensive, inferior input with more customization options?

I think Nintendo wouldn't choose to use haptic feedback if they hadn't tested it extensively and concluded it was viable for gaming. And I think Nintendo, as the designers of a dedicated gaming device, are much more likely than apple to consider and take into account the effects a haptic feedback device they're working on would have on playing games.

Saying it's not viable as it exists on Apple devices right now is irrelevant, since it's possible Nintendo has created a better version. Hence my answer is wait and see what impressions are like and whether or not it is viable. And even if it isn't preferable on a personal level, if that's what we get and it works well enough to be viable, if inferior, it certainly won't stop me from purchasing the system.

Can't see this working well with any of Nintendo's properties. Smash? Nope. Need some type of physical buttons for a fighting game. 2D Mario? Nope, not enough precision. 3D Mario? Nope, need more precision in controls. Zelda, precision. I can't see this working.

If true I can't imagine no physical buttons feeling intuitive to use, but at the same time I don't think Nintendo would do this if it wasn't, so I'll cautiously give them the benefit of the doubt if this is true and eagerly await hands on impressions.
This here, Nintendo, well they are not the kings of ergonomics but i doubt they will push this thing out there if it didnt had easy to use "buttoms" somewhere.
Cant wait for impressions

Nintendo has zero chance of winning that, stop drinking the kool-aid.

The leaker specifically went back to the thread to chime in this is a controller for a console.

Yes, "traditional" controls are better because the majority of games are designed with them in mind. Its absurd to think that touchpad controls can come close as a control method for games that aren't designed with them in mind.

Just like we did it on the D-pad.

And let's not get nuts, you'll get a stick or a pad for fighting games the same way we do now. But even then, consider that the iOS and 3DS versions of SF4 are MILLION SELLERS.
I never knew me and all my friends were 18 year old, old men.
