What did the nerd leaks say? I missed it

This:

A few hours ago, the famous insider shinobi602 posted a tweet saying “to the halls of Valhalla. My boy. #GodofWar4“, letting us think about a Norse setting for the upcoming Sony Santa Monica’s title. Driven by curiosity, we looked for more details/leaks on the web and, yes, we spotted many concept arts about God of War IV (not sure this will be definitive title). The images were posted on his website by a concept artist who recently worked for Sony Santa Monica, in a “illusory” private section. We say “illusory“, because the section requires a password, but all concepts are clearly visible on source code of the page. These concepts give us a lot of information about this new chapter:

- There is Kratos, with beard;
- The setting is the Norse Mythology;
- Kratos will visit Alfheim, “Land Of The Fairies”, one of the Nine Worlds and home of the Light Elves (concepts show the Wall and the Temple Door);
- Kratos will be in one or more prison;
- Kratos has an Axe, with wich he can cut vines and create bridges/walkways;
- The surrounding environment could interact with the character (if Kratos brushes-up against the vines, they expell visible spores).

So, yes, we expect Kratos with beard coming back in Norse Mythology and the announcement could arrive within E3 2016. We remind you we also expect a cinematic trailer with “Gorgon & Hydra”, according to our previous leak. It will be for PS4 for sure, according to numerous CVs stating “working on unnannounced title for PS4 at Sony Santa Monica“.

Leaks are so prevelant these days, takes a bit of the excitement from conferences, especially this far out it's not like I can simply avoid Gaf on the leadup.

I bet Corey Barlog is just fucking with us. Probably superfluous concept art from over the past decade, with a 10 minute throw-together model. This is too by-the-books to be what Corey came back to do.

The concept art is by a young intern who worked with them for 4 months. It's possible none of it was used in the game.

Give Kratos a beard and stick him in the other completely overdone mythology. Its too easy.

We haven't seen anything of the game yet. There could be a lot of new stuff in it. I see people say Norse mythology is overdone quite a bit but I can't think of anything besides Skyrim that used it heavily and that certainly wasn't in the vein of how GoW will approach it.

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
While getting the leaks is a little disappointing I don't see how this hurts Sony e3.

Everybody that cared knew that GOW4 was a thing. And most were calling for a change in the mythology.

I'm cautiously more hyped now to see how this concept arts translate to the game's footage.

Remember how the Horizon leaks didn't stopped the game's reveal from being awesome.

Yeah, leaks like this don't ruin much in terms of announcements. Seeing the game in action is what really gets me going and GoW always has a serious impact.

I just feel for the artist in this case.

I mean... didnt he leave so he didnt have to be "the GOW guy"? Why come back now just to make more GOWs. But I bet he would do this to throw people off the scent after that PS4k GOW4 leak.

This is Cory's response to a fan tweeting him about how Ascension had a tepid response/low sales and how he wants Cory to take care of the GoW IP

Intentional leak to gauge players' interest?

The problem that I have with Kratos in the GoW games as opposed to Link from The Legend of Zelda games is hat Kratos has a definite personality; as in, we know why he has done the things he has done. Link is a silent character, and he can essentially be anything or anyone.

The question is, are they going to make Odin the bad guy or is it going to be Loki? Those two already don't get along, and now Kratos will become a thorn in their butts.

The biggest problem is I fear GOW isn't really a big IP anymore. Should have created something else, but I guess taking risks isn't worth it.

Norse mythology has so much potential with its setting, especially if we explore the 9 realms. It would be awesome to be able to ascend the world tree traveling from (not in any proper order) Midgard to Muspelheim, world of lava; to Niflheim, land of the ice giants; Hel, land of the dead; Asgard, land of the gods; Jotunheim, land of giants; Alfheim, land of light elves; and Svartalfheim, land of the dwarves. They can get especially creative with places like Vanaheim, land of the Vanir which could potentially look like anything.

Well, everyone's going to be the bad guy. That's basically how it worked in the series. Everyone turns into a jerk at some point, and then Kratos kills them.

I am playing the HD version on PS4 right now. I love this game so much. I wish I was Kratos IRL and running for president.

I think it's the site. Tried to go to some of their other pages through google and it was the same 404 page.

Looks like the entire website has been taken down?!?!? o_O Holy shit! THese are apparently the same guys that leaked Pokemon Sun and Moon. Somebody's ninjas ain't messing around.

I think we can safely say with absolution that this is not an intentional leak.

I know, but in every other game, there was only one guy pulling the strings with sub-bad guys. Even if you make Odin the kind-of-good guy, Kratos is known for not getting along with others. I am actually curious about what they come up with.

Or they could just make Yggdrasil the final boss!. Shit, now I'm getting excited.

Why do you think GoW isn't a big IP anymore?

Yeah, the new IP they had going was canned. So, it is an example of how risky things can be with new IP.

If this is real, it has me very interested.I actually like the art with the colours, vegetation which can make this visually different than the previous games. Also quite a fan of norse mythology and kind of makes sense location wise. I kind of just feel that Kratos as a character is kind of a dead end. By the time the GOW3 ends, I feel his character is basically unsalvegeable. I think a new character could have been far more interesting, new arcs, different internal conflicts that have a better reason for new bloodshed.

*sigh*

They're just meant to be teases and to see people (including myself) get excited, and never to go too too far, not to generate a witch hunt and infiltrate a password-protected section of an artist's site for this stuff.

Makes me feel reserved in mentioning anything else in the future.

Its not your fault the guys running this site were assholes. Action seems to have already been taken. Don't trouble yourself about it.

Just guessing here but Odin will be the bad guy because he can see into the future, and knows that Kratos is gonna kill everyone all over again, so he'll pull the same dumb shit Zeus did and try to kill Kratos. Behold the storyline!

I hope time and distance has evolved Kratos from RAH RAH REVENGE to something more introspective and grown up.

Make this a fantasy ancient Detective story or something. Some mystery has lured Kratos North, to the land of Valhalla. He's rejoining the world after years in seclusion.
Please, I can only get so erect.

I don't want to play an ahole again.
Being an ahole is kind of characteristic for God of War though. The whole fun is to meet grand characters from an ancient mythology and then to rip their heads off. Even if there had been a new protagonist I'd have very much expected him to be an ahole

At MAX upgrade level, Kratos ties his new axe to his new beard and you too can unleash the fury until the gods die in the chaos of your own personal Valhalla

You can still face off against the gods and not be an asshole like Kratos was in GoW3, though.

There's vengeance-level asshole, and then there's omnicidal asshole. It's like a thermometer.

The same fans that ignored Ascension?
Yes actually. I didn't buy Ascension because it seemed to focus a lot on MP, wasn't a numbered entry, the last entry was still fresh in my mind, and I was saving up for a ps4 that was announced just a few weeks earlier. I'll be there day 1 for GoW IV.

They definitely went a bit too far in Gow 3, but Gow 1/2 levels of Kratos douchebaggery is very much what I want

Either that, or they'll find a way to tie it to the new Avengers movie. Now I don't feel like finding out );

That would be awesome. I don't even want his anger and rage to completely go away either. Just something to add another layer on top of that. The seclusion part should aid in that process.

There should be more tampons in gaming
Dear God, please no Kratos. He needs to be put out to pasture already. The character has no redeeming qualities, is unlikable and is just a stupid rage monster and a poor attempt at a tragic character.

Norse Mythology I think was always in the cards. I remember Jaffe saying that before in magazines and such. I think it has potential. Lots. Then we can do Egyptian.
