Media Create Sales: Week 13, 2016 (Mar 28 - Apr 03)

It's hard to imagine the next Star Ocean pulling similar numbers after what happened to 5. But the production values are nowhere near high enough for these numbers to be considered disappointing for Square, given the (seemingly) cheap, rush job that it is. The game is about the size of Majora's Mask with no CG and very limited cutscenes.

I expected a lot better than that for Star Ocean. DrillHair didn't have the consumer pull I thought she would.

I blame pink haired girl's face.

It looks like it'll be back in a week with fewer top 10 new releases.

I think that's the first time that it's been knocked out of the top 10 since its release.

Yeah, PDX went down very quickly, already at just 10,000 copies sold in a week. It should reach 100,000 LTD at retail in the end...shouldn't it?

Probably, but it would still be a big drop from F and F 2nd.

Chris was beeing facetious (or so I believe)

Uh... I knew that >_>

It's been out a few times. It's got back. The main reason it goes out is when there's a week there's a lot of major new releases - like last week - or a few weeks afterwards while those new releases' still sell well before the major dropoff.

If there's no major new releases next week, it'll be back in the top 10, I'm certain.
I don't remember it ever being out of the top ten since its launch. Maybe I'm just remembering it wrong.

I guess we can officially confirm Star Ocean is not a major series in case anyone thought that. Yokai is still doing quite nice for itself. Gonna be sad when the spin-offs stop being juggernauts like what happened to Pokemon. Speaking of Pokemon, Pokken seems to be holding alright. Minecraft is ever unchanging as always.

It's 11th this week. Up from 15th.

It happened a few times in previous months this year, too:
11./08. [WIU] Splatoon # <ACT> (Nintendo) {2015.05.28} (¥5.700) - 9.506 / 1.260.770 (-14%)

Eight new releases, and Splatoon still manages a very creditable 11th.

Don't know if it happened at all last year, though.

Pokken actually sold over 100k pretty quickly. Maybe it will clear its stock of 200k without entering bargain bins.

With the current console market over 100k don't look so bad
The game probably will end up with over 500k worldwide

If SE was expecting more than this she is delusional

I bet SE was/is expecting over 1 million

[3DS] Tomodachi Life [Nintendo Selects] <ETC> (Nintendo) {2016.03.17} (¥2.700) - 4.971 / 13.223 (-3%)

So Miitomo is just a tool to sell Tomodachi Life? I see you Nintendo.

Any bets on what will be the decline for the upcoming Tales of Berseria? Zestiria opened with 300k+ and it had a very bad reception after release. I doubt if Berseria can come close to 300k, so I think it will open to 200k-250k, which is terrible for an RPG series that was considered second next to FF.

They expected atleast 400-500k in Japan alone :p

19./00. [PS4] Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain # <ADV> (Konami) {2015.09.02} (¥8.400) - 4.492 / 454.420

Did SOV helped to sell a few thousands copies of MGSV lol ?

Less terribad sales than we feared for SOV, but still pretty bad.

Bloodborne was a feeebie with every PS4 system

Bloodborne was supposed to face supply problems at first day(s), when digital is strong, far from the normal situation.

You'll find many PS4 games with bigger opening and lower digital sales (ratio and absolute).

Star Ocean 4 was born in an era where a Xbox 360 game could do 160K at launch.

Star Ocean 5 is not as lucky, but still manage to do a somehow decent numbers. To compare with another console RPG, Xenoblade Chronicles X launch was around 85K one year before (that said I doubt Star Ocean 5 will enjoy the surprising 200K XenoX did in the US).

I guess there was no digital sales for Star Ocean 4 either ? This would reduce the gap a little. I don't expect much more of 40K or 50K for the PS3 version but, the game should reach 200K in the end.

The actual Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness sales don't look that bad (lowered expectations lol) after thinking that it had only sold 71.100 units.

Code:
[SFC] Star Ocean <RPG> (Enix) {1996.07.19} (¥8.500) - 81.387 / 175.861
[PS1] Star Ocean: The Second Story <RPG> (Enix) {1998.07.30} (¥6.800) - 374.482 / 704.318
[PS2] Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time <RPG> (Enix) {2003.02.27} (¥7.800) - 340.500 / 472.929
[PS2] Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time - Director's Cut <RPG> (Square Enix) {2004.01.22} (¥6.800) - 79.100 / 148.068
[360] Star Ocean: The Last Hope <RPG> (Square Enix) {2009.02.19} (¥8.925) - 162.232 / 198.445
[PS3] Star Ocean: The Last Hope - International <RPG> (Square Enix) {2010.02.04} (¥8.190) - 72.026 / 155.530
[B][PS4] Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness <RPG> (Square Enix) (¥7.980) - 113.022[/B]

[GBC] Star Ocean: Blue Sphere <RPG> (Enix) {2001.06.28} (¥5.800) - 69.932 / 128.764
[PSP] Star Ocean: First Departure <RPG> (Square Enix) {2007.12.27} (¥5.040) - 105.014 / 197.808
[PSP] Star Ocean: Second Evolution <RPG> (Square Enix) {2008.04.02} (¥5.040) - 90.861 / 150.388

If anything those numbers just show how terrible the SO5 sales are.

Second week sales comparison:

Code:
[NDS] Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker <RPG> (Square Enix) {2006.12.28} (¥5.040) - 266.827 / 860.820 (-55%)
[NDS] Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 <RPG> (Square Enix) {2010.04.28} (¥5.490) - 252.862 / 876.505 (-59%)
[3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry no Wonderland 3D <RPG> (Square Enix) {2012.05.31} (¥5.490) - 83.329 / 596.512 (-84%)
[3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru to Ruka no Fushigi na Fushigi na Kagi <RPG> (Square Enix) {2014.02.06} (¥5.490) - 118.427 / 562.083 (-73%)
[B][3DS] Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 <RPG> (Square Enix) {2016.03.24} (¥5.250) - 98.634 / 467.299 (-73%)[/B]

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 second week drop doesn't suggest it will have better legs than previous 3DS releases, it will finish its commercial run selling around 700.000 units. A big drop for the series, it is specially sad that it won't even be able to match the second remake for 3DS that also saw a drop from the first one.

Code:
[PS3] Demon's Souls <RPG> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2009.02.05} (¥6.980) - 22.439 / 62.128 (-43%)
[PS3] Dark Souls <RPG> (From Software) {2011.09.22} (¥7.800) - 34.718 / 314.286 (-88%)
[PS3] Dark Souls II <RPG> (From Software) {2014.03.13} (¥7.800) - 37.285 / 292.482 (-85%)
[PS4] Bloodborne <RPG> (Sony Computer Entertainment) {2015.03.26} (¥7.452) - 22.610 / 175.177 (-85%)
[B][PS4] Dark Souls III <RPG> (From Software) {2016.03.24} (¥7.430) - 33.406 / 243.547 (-84%)[/B]

Dark Souls III second week drop is in line with the rest of the titles, it should reach 300.000 units including digital sales, a great result.

Some people were expecting it to be another million seller on 3DS. I doubt if DQXI on 3DS will match the sales of DQIX.
