Vote system has killed my interest in playing beta, the non incursion mode is just dull

Same, but I think Incursion is dull. Overly long and simple.

This merged queue and vote system is ruining the beta for me tbh.

It's especially problematic in a beta already rife with leavers, but can't fault people for quitting out of matches they don't even want to play.

My team:

Me (Rank 20)
R13
R9
R39
R17

Enemy Team:

R1
R1
R3
R8
R12

I know ranks don't really matter much, but goddamn. Lol

I'm less worried about the rank and more about random solo players against a group of 5. I can even deal with randoms against a group of 3 but I leave matchmaking the instant I see a full team when I have <10's all solo in my group. Just not worth wasting my time.

I jumped into the beta to try out the co-op/single player stuff, because I'm not really interested in another MP shooter right now.

Damn that stuff was boring. First game I've ever had to turn the dialog volume all the way down in too, it was some of the worst stuff I've ever heard. I guess multiplayer was the focus?

I'd definitely prefer to choose, however I was just switching back and forth between the two playlists before the merge anyway.

That being said, if you're in a group, you can pretty easily dictate which map you play.

When I would play solo I preferred going Incursion since it focuses randoms/newbies more. Meltdown is an absolute nightmare solo and prefer to play it with at least one other person. Since the randoms can focus on one lane and my group can focus on the other. The change is horrible, even though I understand they wanted to lower queue times.

yeah its really stupid they really ruined the beta. just shows these devs are out of touch with their community

I guess? But they forcing pvpers to unlock the random loot which is a PvE thing. I can only think of one pvp-focused game with random loot and that's CoD Blops 3. But it works there because in ranked modes EVERYTHING is unlocked

[edit] oh right the chests also only contain vanity & dlc items [CoD blops 3]

Man Ambra is insane, this character. Has anyone else tried her yet? I hate saying something is kinda OP/broken but good lord.

Played the campaign mission with 4 other players. Had no clue what I was doing. There was no tutorial, I had no idea how the powers work. The tone of the game felt like Borderlands. I found the game play quite boring. Towards the end I just wanted the demo to end - fought some spider boss. Before the beta - If I had zero interest, now I have negative interest.

I unlocked her earlier today and was just wrecking people with her. I even went a mostly healing build with the Sunspots and was getting kills left and right.

Just did my first PvP and my team managed to get 100-0. It was pretty fun. I think they should have tossed in one more stage as these two are kinda boring now. All in all, I might actually end up getting this down the line.

I think alot of folks aren't taking notice of her sunspots and destroying them on sight. Destroying those takes a bit of the sting out of her arsenal.

Oh yeah, the only character that felt completely OP to use. Death beam that requires absolutely no aim, that also has lifesteal, that also gets stronger the longer it's used... And that "get stronger" charge never dissapates, and the L2 attack is actually as strong as most melee classes attacks... And you can heal with the orb ability, which also doubles as offense.

Oh, and her passive gives her an overshield when she's low on health.

I mean, seriously, what were they thinking with her?

Maybe I've gone this long and not realized this. I'll check into it.

Just create a new user at the start screen.

I'm getting the same vibe, not so much the boring part but not idea what the hell is going on. I don't know if I'm helping or hurting, there is just a bunch of crap on my screen. I should probably mention that I haven't played any MOBA before, and feel I wouldn't really like them as PVP isn't really my thing, unless its straight fair competition like a Quake / Doom / CoD / Battlefield thing where its a relative equal playing field. Not having to worry about match ups or stuff, you either shoot better than me or you don't.

Played through the two co-op missions with three different characters (Rath, Montana, & Oscar Mike) and I have pretty mixed feelings on it:

+ I like the humor and the characters have a lot of personality.
+ The boss mechanics are pretty good. They're pretty fun to fight and there are a lot of them.
+ A lot of people seem to hate it, but I like the art style.

- Combat feedback is pretty weak. This is a problem I have with Borderlands and it transfers over here.
- The co-op missions are too long (The Ice level in particular). I wasn't timing my playthroughs but whatever length they are is a lot to ask of a matchmade online co-op game. They need to be split up in half or maybe even thirds.
- There's too much going on on-screen if you're a melee character. I really didn't have much of a problem with the ranged ones but once you start slashing with Rath it's very hard to see what you're actually doing or hitting (which is exacerbated by the feedback).
- The FOV is way too tight and the characters take up too much of the screen. This makes the previous point worse than it needs to be.
- Mobility is too limited and the characters feel too slow for a lot of what they're trying to do in the campaign. For example, there's an enemy that can dash from really long distances directly in to your face and tear you up and there's really fuck all you can do about it. There are also snipers that give you warning with laser sights, but there's not much you can do to dodge them besides slowly and clumsily serpentining if you're not next to cover (luckily they're terrible shots). Rath has a double jump upgrade but jumping with him feels terrible and doesn't even go that high. Maybe it's just the characters I've used so far, but I feel like this game could do with a mobility overhaul across the board.

So overall, I don't know. I feel like the campaign would be a pretty fun run through for the bosses but not so much in between. The characters I've tried are on the verge of being fun but have a lot holding them back. The funny thing is I think a few of the bigger playability negatives (particular FOV and screen crowding) would be basically eliminated if the game was 3rd person and I bet it would be a better game if it was. I'll probably still give PvP a shot, but I don't see it winning me over enough to get me to pick this one up.

Played one of the story missions and, surprisingly, really enjoyed it.

Haven't tried PvP yet, but I'm wondering if there will be enough PvE content to warrant a purchase.

Anyone fancy teaming up on PS4? My PSN is Chronospherics, I'm on right now.

Her death beam also works through walls / floors... :(

I think I'm level 14 or 15 now, I've actually been having fun with this though I have some issues.

One thing that's been cropping up more is the collision. I don't expect to phase through teammates and such but I get body blocked by the AI bots and wedged inbetween stuff fairly frequently, and though I haven't played Miko that much this seemed like a pain in the ass with him trying to retreat or stay on someone's back to heal. Benedict seems fun but I've had the same problem with his rockets, they get caught on damn near everything it feels like, lol. This also seems to make Melee characters even better than they already are since it can be hard to escape without getting stuck for a bit, and since most of them can slow/stun you that is a big deal.

I've mainly played Rath/Galilea and I'd like to try Phoebe more but I find the FoV super annoying with her specifically. Rath is pretty brainless with the spin to win stuff in comparison, but with her lunging melee attacks and teleporting it is incredibly easy to lose sight of what is happening and where you're actually at. I can't imagine them adding in a third person camera since that would change a lot but I find her very difficult to play as-is.

This also has the strangest sound mix I've ever heard. I have to have my TV 10-15 notches above the normal volume to really hear anything, and even over headphones it's pretty quiet. Dunno what's up with that.

So I gave it one last go but this time as the healer Mushroom and didn't hate it. I still have the same complaints but focusing more on healing my team and less on trying to pick out the enemy and tell who is who and who is attacking me and getting caught on geometry I could sit back a bit.

Only issue was my team constantly running away from me when I was trying to heal them when it was safe (as in no enemies to run away from but they were at very low life). One even started shooting at me. when you're getting healed does it look like an attack or something?

Seems a lot of people have now discovered that you have a 1-2 second window in matchmaking where you can see the other team. If it is a full party you can abort and just queue again. Helps when you are in a team with just a bunch of full randoms but of course now it is being abused.

Any word on if you can adjust the FOV in the PC version? How cramped it felt was one of my complaints from before. Also, the whole Overwatch/Paragon comparisons are understandable, but not totally applicable. As has been pointed out, Overwatch is faster paced and much more akin to TF2. Paragon is straight up a perspective-shifted MOBA. Gameplay wise, this lies somewhere in between the two, and also has loot, which I understand is a contentious thing for some people. I think that the loot carrot is strong incentive to replay PvE content, but I can see how it could imbalance the PvP. I've not played enough to know how big that gap can get, or if they plan to rely on a gear score for one of their matchmaking factors. I look forward to trying this on PC this week.

I tried the beta on PS4. After 5 minutes I could tell it's not for me. I don't know if I'll ever get the whole MOBA thing, regardless of how they dress it up.

So, just got finished smashing people as Oscar Mike on the PS4...

After a few games I can say I dislike the game a ton. It stems from one major issue, there is a SERIOUS lack of clarity. So much is going on it is often impossible to have a good grip on the game.

Seems the biggest complaint is lack of clarity/situational awareness. So many people (myself included) have trouble telling what is going on/affecting me at any time not limited to but including AoEs behind/to my side, people just out of my FoV (because it's a console FPS and small), enemies looking the same as allies at a glance, the minimap having icons too small to tell which enemy is where.

Played some Meltdown tonight as Thorn and logged another win. Seemed to be the only player sticking to the objectives; I wound up with the top objective score on the team. I felt like I started to "get" how to play better with this character, and I ended up scoring a lot of assists by sniping fools from afar while they were trying to gang up on my teammates. The bleed upgrade on Blight is quite useful!

Overall I agree that situational awareness is poor and there is a ton of confusing visual feedback. I am getting used to it, but occasionally still become overwhelmed. That's why I think a sniper class or support class is easier for me to deal with, so I can help without stepping directly into the midst.

I also played the second story mission and liked this one much more. It seemed about the perfect length.

Really didn't expect to be having this much fun with this beta. Probably not going to buy the full game though. I don't have time to commit to chasing builds and random gear drops, and likely can't stay competitive. Maybe pick it up on sale for the story stuff. I think Overwatch will be more of my thing.

Kleese's first mutation helix which changes his primary weapon into charge shot is pretty bad. Despite doing about 380 damage there isn't a way to see the range on it because of how the shot is animated. Was really excited to play him, but he seems pretty underwhelming so far I'm going to try to get the rest of his mutations.

I played coop and 2 matches of multiplayer. I am enjoying it somewhat. Coop is just borderlands moba which i know some people love. One thing i like about the game is visuals. Its too messy specially if you are playing a melee character and you have to get in close to get kills

I kinda wanted to like this game, but I don't know. I guess I'll reserve a proper opinion until I get a full playthrough, but damn those environments are just...... really not interesting.

Just had a really fun session for a few hours. Galilea is my favorite right now, feels really damn strong too.

Battleborn- samething- it's laced with a really shitty RNG system with no way to acquire the item you really want.

Players new to MOBA-lite / MOBA-clones need to understand there will *always* be an ultimate build. If the developer does not provide a way for you to get the item you want then serious competitive play gets tossed out the window. Both Paragon & Battleborn are gimped and currently held back due to developer greed and being unfamiliar with these types of games. They simply do not understand the hardcore pvp audiences in this genre.

Could you elaborate on gear in Battleborn and what it does exactly?

I'm looking through other forums and so far, you're the only one to talk about gear as a negative to Battleborn's competitive multiplayer.

I had forgotten about the beta and when I saw it this morning on the PS Store I downloaded it immediately. Played 2 hours and absolutely loved it. Found it to be a lot of fun.

Then I saw reactions in this thread? Have I lost my mind or have we all just gotten past wanting games to be mindless fun? I'm considerably older than most of you (I assume) but at my age, I'd rather just have a game be mindless fun since I can't devote hours upon hours every day to it.

Well, I hated it too. And it wasn't anything other than a run of the mill Moba game. If I were to enjoy any moba, I'd probably enjoy Battleborn. But as it stands, the gameplay is something I've played in a different camera angle.

I had way more fun playing in the beta than I expected to and certainly more fun than all of the general negativity around this game led me to expect. Ended up preordering the PS4 version -- I typically prefer pc for FPS (and even prefer it for Gigantic), but I'm fine with this being a recline and relax experience.

I think that, reading what he's put, the problem isn't so much the gear itself, but that acquiring the gear is random with no "fixing" to get things you want for builds.

I don't know why they couldn't just name it Borderlands: Battleborn so it's not completely DOA.

I feel like this was originally intended to be a competitive PVP testbed for a Next Gen Borderlands kinde like GT Prologue for GT that somehow spiraled out of control.

Gameplaywise for me there's too much stuff going on on the screen, I normally don't care for that stuff but it is really extreme here.
