The steam page says only partial controller support. I want to play this via steam link/BIg Picture Mode. What makes it partial?

im using a 360 gpx pad and so far its been working full controller support since the title screen im guessing the speed up options and stuff that are linked to F keys on keyboard?

The CGI cutscenes were some of the finest in the series. The summons were beautiful. Can't wait to see them in higher res. It's been a long time and I don't remember much of the plot tbh. But it's my 2nd fave FF in the series.

It's got a launcher and that part's mouse only if I'm not mistaken. I'm pretty sure that's the reason

It's a Steam game, you can always refund.

(Granted, the first two hours might not be nearly as demanding as later content in something like a JRPG)

That's true, thanks for mentioning. I forget that exists.

(The first hour of FF9 is total spectacle and is probably as good of a framerate test as anything)

Oh man, I'm playing too much stuff right now, can I really put them all aside for a game I've already completed like 5 times?

There's a battle right after the first cutscene, if your PC can handle that (F1 to toggle high speed to check that) then you're golden.

I played 7 for the first time through the PC remaster port and it was the first FF I really liked. I highly enjoyed the prerendered backgrounds, but this game looks even better in that regard. I think I'll check it out.

Some of those cheats sound fun but I wonder why they felt the need to add them to this game and not others.

I like that they finally put a little bit of effort into one of these though. Tempted to buy when the price is right

Personally I'm using the level 99 cheat and the no random battle one.
I completed the game 15 years ago on PS1 when it released fully, but I can't remember pretty much nothing. Now I took the pad and I started remembering, if you want to complete the title on 100%, there's a LOT of stuff to do, including very boring chocobo's treasure hunts. I hated those, without a guide they were a nightmare.
I doubt I'll do this stuff again on PC, I'll just complete the game and defeat optional bosses I think, so I want speed-up a bit the operation.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Nice.

The cleaned up FMV's look great. I have a question for those who have it.

Does it support standard Logitech style game pads ? and can you set up a button to act as the 'turbo on/off' toggle ? or do you have to trigger it in a menu whenever you want to activate it ?

Yeah i'm just gonna keep my IOS version.

Just looks like vomit on PC with those awful jpegs as backgrounds.

Maybe when modders can smooth it out or add scanlines i'll check it out. :/

Also, regarding the port quality... The analog stick isn't fully supported. It's locked to the same eight, relative directions as the d-pad is. If you're like me, it's very disorienting to press the stick straight up and see your character walk at a 120-degree angle or whatever the relative direction happens to be for that specific scene. It bothers the shit out of me.

Yeah, this is really disappointing.

I really hope we can get a mod now to restore the original background art. For the ones that are lost for good, maybe a team of artist can work on recreating them.

I'm worried this will be complicated by this being a mobile port, though. I remember reading that FF4 on PC (the DS version) isn't easily modable (to replace textures) because it's just a port of the mobile game.

Glad so many people are happy. People should def pick this up if they never played the game before.

I think I'm going to stick with the original disc version for 240p and nostalgia reasons. But I'm still happy SE decided to release this.

I mean, even if we can, there are still hundreds of missing backgrounds. That would be a several year undertaking.

Speed boosting features!
• Skippable cutscenes
• Disable pre-battle fly-bys (found in Config menu)
• High speed mode (doubles all movement speeds, both in and out of battle) (F1/RB on pause menu)
• Always full ATB/Trance/HP/MP (F2/LB on pause menu)
• 9999 damage (F3/LT on pause menu)
• No random encounters (F4/RT on pause menu)
• Master abilities (equipping an item automatically unlocks its abilities permanently) (F5/in Config menu)
• Level and magic stone max (F6/in Config menu)
• Gil max (F7/in Config menu)

I'm LOVING this new trend. Replaying FFIX could be a chore (amazing game, too slow) but this effectively allows you to sit back and enjoy the story (if you want). Great job, SE

Many of these are done by different companies with the source material from different platforms which makes it difficult to set a precedent.

In FF6 they are working on mods to replace all the sprites with the SNES versions but they also discovered how to scale the new sprites correctly. They actually look pretty good once you remove Squares elinexplicable scaling method.

Metroidvania

People called Romanes they go the house?
Is anyone else having the 'up button' essentially act like it's stuck?

Have restarted twice, unplugged my XB1 controller, and....nada.

Damn, I take it cloud saves can't transfer from mobile to PC? I was hoping to not have to start over again. Shame I can't play on the go when I want and PC at home.

I mean, even if we can, there are still hundreds of missing backgrounds. That would be a several year undertaking.

I think a team of a few people to a dozen could do it. The art exists, it just needs a fresh coat of paint to look good in higher resolution.

Yeah.

Peeking at the steam forums says I should try reinstalling Controller drivers, will try that.

Parsnip posted this in the other FFIX thread too:

The timing of this is perfect since Microsoft just rolled back a driver update for the Xbone controller on Win10 with the KB3147458 update. The original update fixed most if not all problems relating to Unity engine and xinput (but had some sideeffects for some people), but now the issues are back.

If you are on Windows 10 and are trying to use xbone controller and seeing an issue where the cursor will automatically highlight the US button on the left, uninstalling KB3147458 will fix that problem at least. Can't say how well the rest of the game goes, it seems fiddly. Lots of button presses are registering twice, or that's what it feels like anyway.

Yeah, it solves some issues, but introduces others, like the double-clicking. But it works now after unplugging the controller while the game is running, and replugging again.

i swear every ff release on steam everyone complains in the steam forums these guys have some high standards or something.

I've played 2 hours already, no issues so far. The game surprisingly supports d-input controller, I don't have to use additional 3rd party program for my controller.

Still waiting for that Waifu2xFilter mod, I hope they can release it.

Oh fuck me. Mouse controls are unresponsive as fuck too (need to click twice or thrice sometimes with menu items, feels to same with dialogue), these might actually be a deal breaker for me.

How fucking hard is it to have normal analog stick movement

I guess I'm weird, I still preferred dpad control in this even on the Playstation. Too used to the previous two games.
