Let's pretend for just a moment that the GTA comment wasn't wildly off-topic for this thread.
Having played GTA III, VC, SA, IV but not V (yet), I have a pretty good idea of the series' sense of humor (although you're welcome to find it unfunnyI certainly have at times).
Over the years people have criticized GTA for various thingstoo violent, too sexist, etc. But being inappropriate, rude, immature, and reckless has always been the whole point of GTA. Many people find it entertaining to indulge in this imaginary world of horrible people doing horrible things. I'm well aware of the "ugliness" of GTA, but the ugliness within the games has value as entertainment.
That doesn't mean I'm OK with everything GTA does. But ultimately, we're all bothered by different things depending on our backgrounds and experiences. A joke that one person can laugh at will deeply offend another.
That doesn't mean those jokes are ugly, nor does it mean the jokes are good. But making blanket statements like "GTA is ugly" really only does two things:
- People who already agree with you will still agree
- People who disagree with you will feel like you're attacking their personal character for liking the thing you dislike
Speaking generally, whether or not you intend to attack someone's character, if the other person feels like you're attacking them, then you're probably not going to convince them of anything.
