Amazon [UK] blocks non-Prime members from buying certain video games

The two I mostly use (especially for pre orders) are TGC and Simply Games

http://www.thegamecollection.net/

http://www.simplygames.com/

Both probably the best sites I've used and stupidly quick delivery. If you pre-order, you'll likely be playing early.

TGC used to get games to me a day or two before release, haven't used them in ages though so I don't know if that's still something they offer/are allowed to do.

Simplygames is pretty great too.

Fuck you, Amazon. Fuck you.

I'm a Prime member but this shit is uncalled for. I first noticed this a few months back on Amazon US. Luigi's Mansion 3DS was only available for Prime members.

Can't believe they're pulling this shit here. Prime is getting shit anyway, there are more items lists as Prime 'expedited' which means 2-3 days before delivery.

So pointing out shares isn't implicitly pointing out a bias I'd have? Was that a non-sequitur? How many shares do you have? What is Amazon trying to do? What is the opinion I have?

Come on man, the shares thing was just a tongue in cheek comment!.

The is no right opinion, I am just curious as to the reason for your pro stance on the issue.

Amazon is trying to increase the numbers of people signing up to their premium subscription service by removing items for sale for non-subscribers.

Yes, I know you can buy through other resellers (currently?), but it's a strange way to do business, and it's pretty anti-consumer.

Judging by our CAG thread, most people who ordered Dark Souls 3 from TGC on console were playing on the Saturday before release.

I keep seeing you make defensive posts in here and it took me 5 seconds to check your latest posts and count them, nothing odd about it.
As others have pointed out, you are the only one in here who doesn't seem to have a problem with Amazon blocking direct sales. Do you think it's a good decision by Amazon?

I don't follow this ambiguity being used to avoid addressing specific topics. What is the point of pointing out anything other than actual discussion? If I made less posts, would the actual content of those posts presented themselves better? Given the replies, can you sum up the "decision" being made here specifically?

DS3 was the first time Simply got the delivery to me on release day, instead of early. I think someone at Bamco had slapped their wrists. Other than that blip they've been great.

365 Games is also good, but make sure you pay the £1 for first class postage if you want to get a game early.

TV and movie streaming, along with free shipping,

All right, thanks. Here in France, it gives you "free" shipping and 1 day delivery, prime acces to flash sales (30 minutes before it starts), you can stock your pics on Cloud Drive Amazon and some ebooks you can borrow.

Not very interesting.

My go to place to buy video games has instantly become the place I can't buy video games.

Thanks Amazon.

Same here. Such a shame. If I need to be a Prime member to buy certain games, then Amazon gives me no choice but to go to other retailers like Argos.

When did this start happening?
I ordered Ratcher & Clank with no issues not too long ago.

I think the US Prime also gives a discount for pre-ordering games.

Imagine if you could time-travel and tell people from decades ago that one day there will be a store that you would have to pay in order to be able to purchase goods. They would think you're mad.

What a piss take. Guess I'll be buying even less from them now then. I tend to use The Game Collection or Simply Games for games and Speedyhen/Wordery for books anyway these days.

What ambiguity? I asked you a specific question but you failed to answer it. I'll ask again, do you think it's a good decision by Amazon to do this?

Or other sellers on Amazon, for cheaper, if you find value in things like their support.

Not a fan of third party sellers. While its normal to not trust the big places and companies, I honestly don't trust the little ones any different.

Though I will branch out and try the game collection store etc as they are getting high praise.

The Game Collection is my goto place at the moment but have heard good things about Simply Games. TGC was a bit iffy with DS3 though, mine came on release date and my mates was a day late. First time I've seen them slip tho.

Thankfully there are indeed a good selection of online retailers in the UK. Weirdly this move from Amazon is very good news for other retailers. Must be pretty chipper in their offices today.

makes no sense. they have lower prices from third party sellers that are fulfilled by Prime on amazon themselves on their own website. what do they gain holding a more expensive alternative hostage to prime?

EDIT: why the hell is GTA4 this expensive? it was sub £30 before christmas

How is this a big deal?
You cant post here til you make an account.
Also, don't all shops etc reserve the right to refuse to serve anyone for no reason whatsoever?

Nah, Argos support is pretty tight. Been using their same day delivery stuff quite a bit. Actually got a voucher from them when they messed up slightly, unlike Amazon with MK8 which gave me nothing after missing release date during a Prime trial.

The account here doesn't cost £80 a year. They can refuse to sell to anyone they like, but people can be fucked off with the company for doing that and react how they damn well please.

Thank god the UK has a dynamic online economy, especially for games. I used to buy most of my games from Amazon but I've moved to SimplyGames now. Always quick and reliable.

Yup, to both points, however, they don't have a pay gate for service.

The fact you are paying for the privilege of being able to purchase something leaves a bit of a bad taste.

What ambiguity?

You are being extremely defensive in this thread - posting 15 times already too -which is very odd. Amazon have made a completely dick move by blocking people from buying certain games direct from them - now in the UK - yet you seem to be only one here that's seems to think that's ok.

What's the specific point you're making here? Initially, you completely avoided any single post or statement and lumped everything behind a "position". And now you're asking a question, and given posts in this thread's interpretation of what's happening, I'm asking you to clarify exactly what to respond to. Now you've asked it again and haven't clarified "this".

There are sellers that are fulfilled by Amazon. This means on top of using your Prime benefits, they house and ship out the actual merchandise themselves, the process is the same.

Yeah TGC and Simply games are damn good. I've also had very good experiences with Coolshop. The time of Amazon being the de facto choice to buy physical games from is long gone, other UK online retailers have surpassed them now.

I use gameseek or Gamestop uk version, they are cheaper on hardware like DS4 then most other places. Gameseek usually send early as well.

Haha! You failed to answer my single question yet again in your rambling response. Your defensive posts are ridiculous. Congrats, added to my ignore list.

Amazon has been doing this for over a year, it flags certain items as Prime only for a short amount of time, it's not exclusive to video games or to UK Amazon. If you check back later it'll be for sale normally.

Good to know you entered a thread completely disinterested in the actual topic at hand and couldn't handle a discussion without tapping out.

Fuck right off Amazon.

Dropping all of the delivery options that weren't Amazon "we couldn't deliver our way out of a paper bag" Logistics last year was one thing, but this is quite another. I'm not putting up with these shitty practices.

I don't follow this ambiguity being used to avoid addressing specific topics.

Funny, given that you're clearly trying very hard to avoid addressing specific topics, such as the defense of your argument, by throwing out a bunch of questions instead.

What is thee argument I'm making? That the headline, by virtue of not being able to be taken literally, is clickbaitey? That buying from another seller on Amazon can still be constituted as buying from Amazon? That one shouldn't have purchased GTA4 directly from Amazon on Amazon to begin with? What are these specific topics?

Yeah, Coolshop has been good as well. I've used them and gameseek and simplygames.

I bought some building materials from ebay last week. The same seller was on amazon but it worked out cheaper to buy from ebay. Amazon right now to me is like an expensive form of ebay with all the third party sellers.

Weird. It's as if people don't like being called out to clarify their positions on their non-arguments, especially when they realize they've become completely detached from the actual topic. I'd post a clever reaction GIF but I suppose it'd be wasted bandwidth for everyone else.

Yeah, noticed this a while ago. So they no longer get my custom. Which is fine because places like Simply Games and 365games are cheaper and have faster dispatch/delivery.

Am I the only one who is bugged by the name itself? It has nothing to do with primes. At least they could give you a discount to the nearest lower prime number, so for a 60$ game that would make it 53$. Or give you discounts if your purchase total equals exactly a prime number.
