Here's to U, Wii U

The Wii U is an under powered, ass backwards designed, gimmick centralized video game console with some very good games.

How about this - Here's to you, Pokken Tournament and (nearly) every Platinum game released for the system. Also, the copies of Splatoon and Rodea I have yet to even touch, I guess.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE will more than likely be my Wii U's swan song.

What a way to go. No. The BEST way to go.

I wish they would remaster W101. Maybe make some refinements to its rough edges that were nitpicked in reviews, and get the framerate up with a higher resolution output. I would buy it on any platform. What an awesome game. It was exactly like a Saturday morning cartoon, for any age player. Loved the characters and cheese.

May the tables forever turn. Red and Blue should have been in Smash.

Worst Nintendo console ever, unfortunately. The sooner this thing is buried, the better.

The Wii was 100x better and brought about VC as a console standard.

The Who's VC is still incredible. A shame Nintendo couldn't match it on Wii U.

The VC is probably what bums me out most about the Wii U. The Wii VC had a shocking amount of games by the end of its life cycle, from imports like Rondo of Blood and Alien Soldier to Neo-Geo games and even Commodore 64 games (with MSX games in lieu of this in Japan). There was a ridiculous amount of support, and they even let you run a lot of the games in 240p.

On the Wii U, it seems like they fucked up almost every step of the way. There's the delayed launch, having to repurchase games, the glacial pace of releases, the weird brightness issues, the 50hz nonsense Europe deals with, the lousy discounts, and the complete lack of any non-Nintendo consoles. They've done some cool things with it (save states, the 30 cent promotion, special treatment with games like SMA4 and Earthbound Zero), but they seem to be the exception to the rule.

I don't regret a thing about buying a WiiU. Splatoon is the best game I've played in years, I loved X and Mario Maker, and I still have a backlog of a few games (and Wii games for that matter).

But I can't comprehend how there's almost nothing in the pipeline for the next year. We're saying goodbye now and it's only April...

My most played system this gen.
Nintendo were on fire with some of their releases

Honestly smash 4 and splatoon can last me the entire year, have been playing them since I got the games on launch.

A pity of a console, bad design and terrible OS.

Very few software worth owing does not excuse it.

By far my least played console ever.

When I compare this generation of systems, I find the Wii U most frustrating from a hardware perspective [related to the battery, and slow loading times], but to have the best library of games.

There's definitely good games, but only about 4 of those in the OP are ones I like. The problem was I had to pay almost as much as a PS4 to play those few games. Whereas I've played tonnes of games on PS4.

To many, the Wii U is a commercial failure that came out at the wrong time, had the wrong idea and failed to compete with its direct competition. To others, the Wii U is this:

.

What's the difference?

WiiU's line-up was one of its major flaws. Mario Maker and Splattoon were the only fresh new IPs which convinced both sales- and review-wise, while a lot of other games just felt like quickly rehashed versions of well established IPs.

At least they were not good enough to convince myself to buy one. For the very first time in 30 years in which I bought every single one, some of them even more than once...

So, looking forward to that NX line-up...

I've enjoyed the heck out of my Wii U. Even to this day it's still the system I play the most. I feel like I got my money's worth and I'm ready to move on.

its a great ittle console that tried to push intself into an interesting direction but failed on simple, basic features.

Its simply a system you get for the games and nothing more, im thankful it has such a different lineup compared to the competition.

It's a good console but it falls short of the standard set by Gamecube/Wii for me. I don't know if consoles will ever be as strong as they used to be due to the death of mid-tiers (at least unless the handheld and console share the same games, and even then they won't reach the standard set by combining the Wii/DS lineups or the GCN/GBA lineups), there's such a huge lack of third-party gems. Basically every first-party game is good but there's just so little beyond that. A lot of people like to say third-parties haven't supported Nintendo since the SNES days but that's not really true, they've always gotten several quality oddball titles a year from third-parties since the N64 era. That was super lacking with the Wii U.

Still, Smash, Captain Toad, Splatoon, Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, and 3D World are all great games that I'll remember for years to come.

I'd probably like it more if I compared it to the PS4/X1 and not the consoles of the past. To me everything this gen is disappointing.

It has some great games and it's not a bad console but like in the dreamcast thread, it never lived up to it's potential and it's a dissapointing system that nintendo dropped the ball on.

I know some say it's a modern day dreamcast but I think that's more of an insult to the dreamcast. Wii U will probably be forgotten about especially if the rumors of the NX remasters of some Wii U games is true.

Mine as well, really looking forward to this game. Also Wii U even though sales where abysmal it went out fighting with a bunch of great games. W101, Bayo2, Xenoblade, Splatoon damn such great games no regret. Now good night sweet prince its been fun

My Wii U has gotten more playtime than my PS4, 3DS and Xbone combined. It's the best local multiplayer console since the N64. I'll be having my drunken Mario Kart and Game and Wario Pictionary gatherings for a long, long time.

I enjoy the games on the Wii U, but I despise the gamepad.

It's just such a pain in the ass to use. It's a half-baked idea that hamstrung the entire console.

The Wii U, to me, is a flawed console with a damn good game lineup.

I love my Wii U, but I'm a little sad we never got a Metroid, F-Zero, or exclusive Zelda. I'm sure the NX version of Zelda U will be superior so I doubt I'll get it on this system.

The lack of RPGs also hurt it a little but, but I'm still glad I picked one up.

Why are people saying Wii u didn't get an exclusive Zelda...Zelda nx is still coming to Wii u... In facts it's the only playable game at e3...

I paid good money for this Dynex!

Kinda answered your own question there, didn't you? Calling it Zelda NX kind of implies it's not exclusive to Wii U.

The problem with the 'budget games' is that Nintendo still charged full price. Star fox is a budget game that is full price. Even the mario games should not be full price. I played Mario Maker a lot but it still wasn't worth the price.

The only games that I own for Wii U that were worth that price were Pikmin 3, Mario Kart. I feel like I actually got my moneys worth from those. Wind waker is amazing but not worth $80 cdn to me. That should have been free if you owned it already, honestly. Charge full price for a complete remake of Ocarina or something, not an HD remaster.

Honestly if they are just going to release more titles that are overpriced then I am not interested in NX.

Sorry but I feel seriously burned by the Wii U...

If Mario Maker isn't worth full price, then what game - regardless of system - is?

Star Fox was bundled with another game (that's even lengthier than itself).

NSMBU and 3D World both break 30 hours to 100% if I am not mistaken, including Luigi U.

Zelda Wii U? A proper Mario 64/sunshine/galaxy sequel? These at least compete with other AAA titles from other consoled first/second parties.

Look I love MM... obviously there is unlimited content in but that doesn't mean it should be full price. No Man Sky has a trillion stars or whatever but to me it doesn't justify the price if they all look roughly the same. Plus the average experience is pretty bad. User content mostly sucks. Nintendo could have done a lot more to make the experience better.

Eh, it's bit like the Dreamcast, but with a tenth of the ambition. Yeah, the Wii U has Smash, but the Dreamcast had prime Capcom treating the system like a second party and literally dozens of great fighting games.

The system has a lot more in common with the N64, actually.

As someone who has never owned a Nintendo system, the software library makes me jealous. Superb exclusives.

I've got a PS4 btw. Hooray for UC4, though!

I hope NX exceeds or matches the PS4K so the third party support starts rolling in, especially if the architectures are similar, it will be so much easier to port things over.

Was tempted to do this, sorry. :)

P.S. I had to replace some games which are bundled with the main game, are not with me at the moment or bought on the e-Shop.

Nice, I have all of those apart from Tank Tank Tank although I do have the eshop version. Also got MH3U, Deus Ex, Batman Arkham City, Rodea the Sky Soldier, Sonic Lost World and Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed. I love how you've pretty much mirrored the OPs organisation, looks great! Interesting to see a few of the NTSC boxart varients.

Just bought one last week and thanks to eBay I already have 25 games, loving it so far. Also that's 20 more games than I have for my Xbox one. That lot will easily last me until the NX comes out, for metroid and fzero, I still have corruption from the wii which I haven't started and fzero GX via nintendont.

I can appreciate if you had one from new then the droughts over its lifetime were poor, but overall it has some awesome games and that's all I care about.

Welp, Rayman Legends has already been forgotten about. Glad to see ZombiU there.

Pity Affordable Space Adventures didn't get "normal" boxart, eh?

I bought the console almost on release. I almost never used it until Mario Kart 8. Now I don't use it at all. I'm sad about it because I had higher hopes for it.

Excited for NX though!

The lack of interesting titles is going to make me hold back on future Nintendo consoles. I would say really only Splatoon was the one special experience on the console. Everything else was either a sequel, re-hash or underwhelming. I really hope they pull it together next time, but I'm not going to be an early adopter for the NX

It's an amazing console for those who love strong gamedesign and gameplay driven games.

It's has basically nothing to offer for people who like those modern almost purely presentation driven games.

But hey, I'm in the first camp. It's a great system for me.
