Drama!

Edit: If you don't know what The Chinese Room is, they made Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

Some context:
For the 100th time. This is not a promotional image. It was never used by CDPR in promotional campaign. It was released by their contractors who made the teaser in their behance article. http://www.cgmeetup.net/home/making-of-cyberpunk-2077-by-platige-images/

They're drawing this conclusion based off a picture of a scantily clad woman?

So anything sexy is "sexist" now, is that what I'm getting here?

This is coming from someone who thinks there's too much of that shit in gaming as is but still, come the fuck on.

Having not played games from either company, what's to gain from The Chinese Company starting drama like this? They don't seem to be trying to make any kind of dialogue, it's literally just shots fired. Comes off as really immature on their part.

Ironically enough there is a large amount of people that equate any woman acting sexual or dressed sexually as sexist...

Which is such a sexist thing in itself, implying that women can't be in charge of their own sexuality.

Come on guys, it is sexist. It doesn't mean the game will not be good and I love The Witcher 3 but let's face it, there's a lot of male gaze in these games. And I know, we see Geralt naked too but it's not the same, Yen and Triss are well-written but a part of their personality revolve around their sex-appeal. Don't be so defensive about this.

Few things, though.

The image they are referring to isn't about The Witcher 3. It's about that new Cyberpunk 2077 game, which gives no context beyond a singular image. Until that's reached, any assumptions as to whether or not the girl is being used as an eye piece and nothing more is just that - assumptions.

And Yen and Triss being sexy or having sex-appeal doesn't make the developers sexist.

Eh, it's a good discussion to have and it was brought up heavily during the Witcher 1 era with the sex cards, then the Playboy Triss ad, those were pretty much the definition of objectification.

But I'm not so sure a dismissive one and done tweet randomly blurted out is the way to go to have that discussion. I'm sure CDPR would be super open to having it as well, they're generally very receptive to their fans and such.

That's what I'm getting too. The world of the witcher can certainly be seen as sexist but that's actually part of its world building, plus it can even subvert it at times too.

^^cards from witcher 1 are a good point, and yeah that is, but I'd think CDPR have grown since then, is anything in W3 blatantly sexist?

My feelings exactly. I hate to live in a world where their rules apply. It would be sterile and boring as fuck.

Come on guys, it is sexist. .

Nope. There is a difference between gender discrimination based on a persons sex and sexy.
Just because it's a picture of a woman wearing sexy clothing does not in anyway make it sexist.

Pfff.

What is it with people these days... Everything needs to be so 'correct' what is wrong with seeing some tits or/and ass in a game?

Man/woman/trans are all equal to me. Let everybody live their lives. But please let me have some tits and ass in my game now and then. Preferably without drama surrounding it!

1. Bring up "politics" (e.g. suggesting hetereonormative principals aren't a universal fit for all games) in news article
2. Watch e-meltdowns, thus promoting news outlet brand and getting the word out
3. ????????
4. actual profits

The society in the Witcher games is certainly sexist. That doesn't mean the game itself is sexist.

But Anita told me it's a sexist game because the men call a female character you play as a "whore".

You know because when some bandits are trying to kill me I'm really expecting them to avoid gendered slurs.

To anyone siding with these people, please go tell every woman you can find who participates in this stuff how dumb they are for enabling "sexism". Lemme know how good you feel about yourself after doing that.

Also you better not ever be watching porn or really ever enjoy a picture of a scantily clad girl, it's SEXIST. Hell just don't go outside, or go on the internet, shit's mad hostile.

So because a woman feels sexy and empowered its sexist cause she takes her clothes off?

So a female character can't acknowledge that they have sex appeal and flaunt it or else it's sexist???

What the poster above says!

It's strange to see a tweet from the actual studio Twitter handle, I can't imagine all the staff are happy with there representation here.

not surprising hearing this kind of talk from the foremost name in walking simulators. it's easy to avoid problematic character design when your games literally have no visible characters in them.

Complaining that the Witcher is sexist is like complaining Game of Thrones is sexist. They're based on books that try to depict medieval times ffs.

You don't know what sexism is. And apparently neither do the Chinese Room.

The underlying issue is here is why a woman should need to feel sexy to also feel empowered. Like I said in my previous post, it is a worthwhile discussion, but a tweet like that is hardly a good way to go on about it, the response in this thread makes that very clear.

This is also true, if anything the image is objectifying since it's a chick posing for the sole reason of looking sexy. Granted, they could be arguing that CDPR only using women for sexy ads is what's sexist.

We know NOTHING about the woman in the trailer and whether or not she is even in the final game. She could be a female escort or dancer but is an undercover killer with cybernetic arms and legs who just annihilated a group of people and now is getting arrested. Or she could just be partying on a night out and was attacked by a band of people and is making her last stand to save her friends.

People jumping to conclusions about sexism because someone is wearing something sexy is part of a new problem, hypersensitivity.

they're not wrong. i don't expect gaming side to see that though, as is plainly evident by this thread so far.
Pretty much, they've gotten better but Witcher 3 still has some dumb shit that's even more apparent when you take into account the overall quality of the writing.

Yeesh, I like both studios but this just comes off as bait. Not sure why whoever manages their Twitter would feel compelled to start shit for no reason. From what I've seen, CD Projekt actually seems a lot more progressive with gender in particular than the majority of similar studios. *shrug*

I imagine it's the same reason a man would feel empowered by feeling like he has sex appeal?

The idea that a woman isn't allowed to have that feeling seems ludicrous.

You will feel ashamed by your words and your deeds.

Of course it is, I'm not going thought-police here :p. If someone feels empowered by feeling hot that's good, lord knows I'd grow a bit more confidence if I finally started working out :lol. But we can't deny that there's been a stronger pressure on women to meet certain criteria, looks-wise. It's an interesting topic and there are many interesting thoughts on the subject as a whole

See the rating on the game? It's an adult game with adult themes.

Can't handle that then go hug a blanket and watch some children's cartoons.
