DOOM – Launch Trailer

And as been said countless times, the brutal kill stuff is purely optional, or if you need some extra healing at points.
The way this disincentivizes killing enemies with guns might be problematic though. I sure as hell wouldn't go for gun kills when I know I'm actively preventing items from dropping by doing that. The instant kill + momentary invincibility should be benefit enough for the QTE kills.

I get a real dirty feeling that Bethesda have just made a quick and dirty cash in on the name and it looks like its fucking showing too.

Looks to lack any soul and I'm bitterly bitterly disappointed.

Bethesda bought iD in 2009. Calling Doom a quick and dirty cash in is just plain wrong. I think even they were the ones that scrapped what iD was doing as it didn't feel like "Doom" so they essentially restarted the entire project.

Art direction is fantastic, it's incredibly faithful to the originals while still looking modern and updated.

Encounter design sounds more like a character action game than a Doom game lol. Get arbitrarily locked in a space, enemies come, kill the enemies, locks release and you can move on to the next one.

Eh, I might pick it up down the line if it turns out to be alright on its own merits. I'm totally in the mood for a linear-ass run and gun shooter with minimal story interruptions.

Getting locked in a space and being surrounded by enemies is partly what DOOM is all about. I've been playing through Ultimate DOOM and there's a lot of this.

Decided to pre-order, as GMG had 20% off voucher. 48€ is about what i paid for Battlefront which i find acceptable price on PC (50€+ is too much usually).

I never said that, wrong quote! :p

Doom is about taking out onslaughts of enemies in a set of rooms and moving to the next set of rooms to take out the next set of enemies.

This is vey much doing that, and doing it well.

That's true, but the thing I never liked about serious sam that it feels like we're getting here is the concept of enemy waves. In DOOM you always have monster closets and whatnot, but you could always see some really intelligent use of them. Sometimes there's spots where you go to pick up the key and the lights shut off and the closets pop open from behind, and sometimes you have situations like in Map04 in DOOM2 where you trigger the monster closet, you hear it open, and you hear the monsters, but they're back in the hallway you were from so you don't actually know where you triggered it until you come back and find them waiting for you. It was a much more interesting way of doing things than having a bunch of hallways just connecting a series of monster killing arenas.

Just to be clear, I never, ever said it's like that.
On the contrary, I explicitly praised the level design and the exploration.
And also, even when you fight a big amount of enemies till you've killed them all, as I wrote you are basically never inside a simple square room, but you do have lots of freedom of movement, verticality, hallways, corridors and hideouts.
You always move around, enemies move too, you need to search for powerups, shields, energy and bullets in order to survive, never standing still.
So does it feel at times quite a bit like an arena, considering that enemies keep spawning until you are the sole survivor? Yes, indeed it does, in my experience.
Is the game just a series of rooms full of enemies connected by hallways? No, it's not.

What did you think about gun feedback? Did they improve it from the Beta? Is the sound mixing still all over the place?

The weapons are heavy, mean and absolutely a blast to use. And it's impossible not to love them in general, considering the damage they cause to those poor infernal creatures.

Yeah this is what I want to know too. I have no problems with glory kills, but can you turn off the highlighting and still perform them by using another obvious cue such as seeing the demon stagger etc. The demon flashing is just something I'd like to turn off.

Honestly, I don't know.
But I don't think it would make that much sense, as you need some sort of quick visual feedback to tell you the enemy is ready to be torn apart... The action is viciously frantic, and not having that indication would make things hard.
I agree though that the visual feedback is probably too loud/out of context, and I wish they had chosen something a little subtler to tell you you can trigger a Glory Kill.

Yes you can turn off the highlights and still do Glory Kills. I haven't played the game but id have mentioned this a few times in their streams and IGN/GameSpot demos. Apparently the options menu contains a lot of tweaks like FOV, HUD, indicators etc.

I still need to grab a PS4 console bundle but have been hesitant to pull the trigger as the CoD bundle has been out for a while. Was thinking they'd replace that one soon. Any news on upcoming bundles at the $350 price?

You only need the extra health or items if you truly need it. There isn't that much items in the game, you don't need a constant supply really by brutal killing everything in site.

The momentary invincibility thing is part of the game design though, if you are swarmed by a horde of enemies, using it can help you deal with a tough situation that you could die in, it's essentially an escape mechanic when used right.

Okay, didn't mean to misinterpret you, that was just the sense that I was getting from it; like, that the gameplay was broken up into exploratory segments and enemy wave segments, like how Uncharted works.

They sum up what sounds fishy about this whole thing very well.

Impressions basically confirm what I was hoping this game wasn't going to be. Arbitrarily spawning enemy wave arenas are the antithesis of old school FPS gameplay where enemy and item placements were part of the puzzle/maze setup feel of the level design and so on. There should be an option to turn those finishers off entirely as well.

Those impressions aren't too bad. I don't know what people expect. Hopefully the higher difficulties add more challenge. It's not going to be the original games. But even in the originals, enemies did sometimes spawn around you, usually like an ambush. So enemies spawning around isn't really a bad thing to me. I think it will appeal to anyone who likes the original games or arena shooters.

Look at Serious Sam. That game had you go from room to room and each room was just wave after wave of enemies.

So edgy, so metal. I guess these attributes fit into a Doom tittle. And it won't be as cheese as Duke Nukem.

There is a store here that will sell Doom tomorrow and they say its region 1 (US), but the logo on the box isn't ESRB. and It's not Pegi too. what's that exactly?!

It's from Brazil.

Judging by the language of the sticker (portuguese) and the rating symbol, it looks like a brazilian copy.

Yep, I can confirm. Just like my copy. I'm having a blast with the game.

So much fun!!! Bethesda nailed the single player campaing (didn't touch the snap map and Multiplayer).

Played for 5 hours yesterday and enjoyed every single frame. The game starts at a frenetic pacing and keeps growing. And there is the Soundtrack..... GOD SO GOOD!!!!!

I'm going to play today with the HT 6.1 today.

Thank you Mdk7 for impressions!

Yes there is a region called region All and it's for south american countries if I remember correctly. they are pretty much like region 1 (US) and have ESRB rating, but usually they have portuguese words on the box.

Thanks!
I can confirm that too
Also, says in the box "includes multiplayer pack", whatever that means...
Does it have something like this in other regions?

Man, I'm on the hype-hell-train

Where did you buy it? :D

São Caetano do Sul - SP - Brazil

At the mall - UZ Games.

The MSRP is 249,99R$ (which is a lot..... Uncharted 4 is R$ 199,99)

Here is some screens that I took.

Pretty big enviroments. Big arenas to fight, fast paced combat, superb aim.

A damn fine week with Uncharted 4 and DOOM releasing.

Am I a horrible gamer if I'm kinda leaning towards picking up DOOM before Uncharted?!

Tough decision... if i buy both one will sit... and then both will likely sit end of month when Overwatch is released. Hmmmmm, what to do.

I'm absolutely hyped for Doom right now. Despite the lackluster MP, the singleplayer looks exactly what we wanted.

Day 1 on PC.

Two completely different games, nothing wrong with that.

( I bought both of them to be sure. Uncharted is more on the safe side, but i'm too much in love with DOOM 1 & 2 to skip this ).

I'm looking to preorder, any word on whether or not there are significant differences with performance between PS4 and Xbox? I prefer the Xbox controller for shooters but can make due with the PS4 if there is a difference...

It's not an instant kill, it only works on enemies that are about to die anyway.

Ok, good point. I know i'll end up caving this Friday and picking up both. I'm weak lol.

I'm so torn about getting DOOM. On one hand MP beta was several GB's worth of mediocrity, but on one hand SP has potential to be a lots of FPS fun and awesomeness yet how much meh RAGE was has me doubting if ID can deliver anymore.

I'm optimistic that this game will be amazing.

At worst, it will still be better than Doom 3. Any single battle in the recent footage looks like more fun than the entirety of that game...
