DOOM – Launch Trailer

As i said in another thread, this is how a shooter gameplay trailer should be done.
A competent player playing fast and effectively.

None of that slow-ass "look around slowly and shoot poorly" stuff we usually get.
"It is to show off graphics!", someone says.
Well, that fast video sure shows the graphics as well, they look pretty damn good at that speed.

That ending too man. LOL. Game looks like it's going to be rough on decent difficulties.

except no one will ever see the game played that well or at that high of a resolution at that FPS. You'd have plenty of casual players crying foul wondering why their game doesn't look that good or why they can't play like that. You aim for the demo and market you want to sell to. Enthusiasts are a lot cause because they will judge whether or not they want to jump in. They aren't sellable in the same way larger crowds are and would be a waste of resources to throw money at them.

The principle stands: Have a skilled player showing off the game. No need for that Titan X and 200FPS, just the good, effective player is enough.

I certainly prefer seeing a skilled player playing a game and thinking "Man, i hope i get that good someday" than seeing lame slow-ass crap they usually show.

I thought the game was running at 60FPS on consoles as well. All this was showing was Mouse and keyboard gameplay.

for a heat trailer you don't need anything more to show off the base of gameplay and the visuals. Most viewers won't pick up on the skill involved from something like that. It's a purely aesthetic choice that works more often than not.

This game is gonna be awesome. Don't understand the hate for it much at all, yeah it plays a bit different than the original Doom games. With the verticality and speed, this to me looks like exactly the kind of Doom game we would have got in the late-90's if id hadn't shifted focus to the Quake series, but with a few modern trappings like upgradable perks, glory kills, and small interaction animations/setpiece moments thrown in for good measure.

I got an early copy, and I think this game is legit. It's harder than all shooters I played in the last years, and that's actually fun. Remimds me of q3 days.

Ehm up until now all the videos shown about the singleplayer looked NOTHING like this

Slow movement, endless QTEs and the gameplay looking like it was played on xanax was what has been shown until now. And it looked NOTHING like doom or quake

This video looks pretty good, the previous ones didn't. People can only judge what they are shown.

Are the levels more like the original games just with arenas added on? Some others that have gotten it early have said that is basically what the game is instead of linear hallways leading to arenas.

That video looks real proper. The fights looks really fun in that. Where was this footage before? The best video of the game yet. If only the art direction was a bit more satanic like the old ones. But yeah the gameplay finally looked good to me.

What do you mean bad?
Also, Rage or Wolfenstein?

On R9 390, i had zero problems with the latter (never played the former) and 390 is about comparable to 970 IIRC.

Wolfenstein ran horribly on my rig

Probably the worst performances i've ever got in a game, i had huge dps drops even with everything on medium settings, i tried everything at the time to make it run decently with no luck

Odd. I wonder if other 970 users had problems or if your CPU-memory-GPU config just didn't work for the game.

I would expect Doom to be better running overall though. 970 should support Vulkan API so that should help if nothing else.

Get me a mod that let's you move like that from the get go without having to slog through the game until I get all the upgrades and I'm in!

OTs can go up 24h before release. Used to be a week but they ended up being just hyping without any meaningful discussion. IIRC. (Heck, some games had an OT filled before launch...)

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
yep, both of those
jasec postet a countdown in one of the doom threads, should be around 4 hours to go now

~3h20m, yeah. VPN stuff:

I think FlyVPN removed its free AU/NZ servers, which reduces an already lacking selection. VyprVPN's free service has servers pretty much everywhere, but there's a 500MB limit to be mindful of, which could be an issue if there's a launch day update. VPN Gate would probably be the better option, assuming there's an AU/NZ host come unlock time.

Edit: FlyVPN still offers free access to AU/NZ.

You sure? If it unlocks at midnight then we've 1:10 to go. Unless my time zone settings are messed up and I'm reading the time stamp of your post incorrectly.

Edit: Oops, AEST. I guess I'll sleep then.

From the little I played so far, yes.

Wasn't really planning on getting this because I hate Bethesda (I know they're just publishing it) and I thought the E3 stuff looked like shit and the trailers aren't doing anything for me either.. BUT that nvidia video actually makes it look pretty alright so I caved in and just ordered the collectors edition.
I hope I"m not going to regret it. I"m a big fan of Doom I and II and I really want this to be good.

I really like the level design of this game! it has big locations with lots of layers and secrets:

You fight with enemies from everywhere with amazing music and your adrenaline goes really high.
Its gameplay is really good and and I love controls and shooting so much. graphics are amazing too. it has some frame drops, but most of the time its solid and its very beautiful too.
And I should say, WOW at Hell music!
I think most of Doom fans will be happy with this game. expect those who only want scary moments from Doom. its not scary at all, but it has soul of classic Dooms and you should try it!

That is all good stuff to read.

I am pretty hyped for the game now. A lot of negativity has been circling it (I never got round to trying the beta even though I had downloaded it) but the single player is what I care about.
