Polygon: Xbox Scorpio will be a ~6 TFLOP system (v PS4K's 4.14), unveil soon, Fall 17

Shrewd isn't leaking your specs so early that the competition has enough time to adjust its own.

They're slotted to unveil Scorpio soon, according to the leak, which would likely be E3.

How would that give Sony any time to adjust their own rumoured specs?

The only illogical thing about his whole Scorpio thing is announcing it this early, yet releasing it 1.5 years later. That would give Sony amply time to adjust.

You guys should read SPE's latest post:

The division is not being treated as its own business anymore, so it doesn't have to stand on its own. It was fully consolidated into the OS group when Spencer took the Head of Xbox position back in early 2014.

That said, I don't think MS will sell any hardware at a loss. I do think they will make powerful flagship devices though just like they did for Surface and put money behind initiatives where they believe they can succeed.

looks like I might pass on neo and get scorpio.
It's at least not a bad idea to wait since we have 3 new consoles on the horizon. It's such an odd situation

The time difference between this leak and the Neo's release is probably about the same as the time from the Neo's to Scorpio's release. So I don't understand this concern

But how much would lower be? Assuming everything was the same for the Xbox One, bad reveal, launch in tiny amount of countries, and $100 more expensive because of forced Kinect, the amount of consoles that would be flipped would be insignificant.

A more powerful XB1 requires a completely different machine and marketing than what actually happened, and how that would have gone is a different discussion.

I don't think would be insignificant. One of the reasons for hardcore players rush for a PS4 was the power. Combined with the lower price was an easy decision.

If Xbox One had a better hardware, part of the people would think in pay $100 more for a better machine and after the price drop (that likely would happen anyway because bundle w/ Kinect was a stupid idea) Xbox One would be very competitive.

PS4 would be the leader because of the worldwide presence, but Xbox One would be doing significantly better than now in markets like North America and UK.

1.31 vs 6 Tflops...

I wanna see how the games will be for run in both systems.

It'll be like PC games for awhile, higher res/textures/framerate, stuff that peeps have been complaining about since the start. VR will be important, and MS can 1up Sony with Rift support.

If scorpio is more powerful thats great however if it launches later compared to neo I can get more mileage out of my ps4 until then, save some money and then upgrade to scorpio

By the time the Scorpio's out we're already going to be hearing rumours about the PS5, or PS4.5K or however it shakes out. The move to iterative consoles means there's never going to be a 'safe' time to jump in; just like with PC hardware there's always going to be the next thing just over the horizon.

Pretty much this.

Before E3 2017, Kotaku: PS4 Trinity will be a 12TF machine announce soon, release fall 2018.

I can't fucking wait to see how this affects the graphics in future titles. Consoles having such great graphics power could bring PC graphics further faster.

It's a win win for everyone.

Not really. You're telling people who bought a PS4/XB1 recently that no, you didn't buy the best, you bought relegated hardware. Increasing graphics at this point is pointless. Increasing how fast Nvidia ups the prices on their GPU in the future is also terrible for consumers, because AMD sure as hell isn't competing with them in that space.

At this point in the game, I doubt it'll do much, but who knows. I'll probably wait to see what they both offer. I feel like pricing and image was a large factor in initial sales.

Umm it's one thing to have a monopoly it's another to price your product so high the consumers can't afford it. Anyway 4 years is a good run. And the people who bought it recently are late to the game. Should we feel bad for 360/PS3 purchasers that recently bought them because the xbox one and ps4 exist?

I think the "console generation" definition will be over soon, at least in the traditional way. If this iteration model works out for them then we will see both companies try their best every years.

As long as the base is still PS4 and XB1, the prospects of MS winning are all but gone. Maybe near the end when the transition happens (and older consoles start getting dropped), they could start to turn some stuff around.

Hold up, this doesn't make any sense. You can apply this logic to the PS4 and PS4 Neo. Why bother w/ PS4 in the next few months if I can buy one that's 2-3 as powerful for $100 more?

Hmmm, why would I buy a PS4 now if I know Neo is coming out "this year"? Given that the price difference between the two is probably no more than $100-$150 I would just forego purchase a PS4.

The difference is that Sony will be cannibalizing PS4 sales for a few months; Microsoft will be doing that for a year. If you're in the market for a PlayStation and want the best, you might wait until the 3rd or 4th quarter for the Neo. If you're in the market for the best Xbox, you may hold off for a year. That could be a substantial dip in Xbox sales for the next 12 months or so.

Not necessarily. Yes, the iterative model will spur competition more closely, but I feel like companies are going to still play sides for quite a while until one company emerges over the others the way the PS4 did. I see everyone in here ready to write off PS4K over a rumor about Scorpio, but let's be real. Why would anyone assume Sony would just let MS take the lead from them after all the work they've done to get to this point? The most powerful console isn't always the leader. I thought PS2 and Wii would have taught you guys if anything.

Take 'em to town MSFT, and while your at it, bring us back the DRM/always online when you had Sony on the defensive, lol.

Competition is a great thing. Sony schooled them and they're winning now, but they have become complacent in their dominance. I'm not a warrior for either side; I simply want the best machines with the best games we can get. Nothing wrong with that :)

Nvidia already produces $1,000 plus GPU's and they've been increasing their prices ever-so-slightly recently. If PS4K/XB2 try to hurt their business by making older GPU's weaker, they'll bump it up because they know their customers (PC Gamers) except the best. Them being a monopoly on PC doesn't help matters, either.

I hope is true and ms return to his roots of making powerful consoles and not the disgusting and the bad joke of the xbox one(IMO).

The GTX TitanX wasn't intended for consumers

I honestly wouldn't mind some of what they had planned. Some stuff about it was extremely shitty though.

Nothing is stoping them from implementing the positive things without the need for the negative right now. In other words, they were blowing smoke to lessen the outrage. They could not even detail any of the claims, and the info was patchy at best with lots of speculations.

uhm, It's not cheap to have a GPU that could push those figures. The XO isn't doing so hot right now to be demanding $600+ from consumers, but we will see.
