Play DS and BB scrub.Man, I see a lot of folks harp on TW3 for its combat. I must not know my shit very well - I thought it was fun.
I hate those people too

Does this replace the epilogue scenes that you get at the end of the main story?
I got the good endings, except forGeralt's, he died alone in a shitty cabin. Apparently I didn't shag Yennifer enough? Weird, given that the entire game they talked about being a couple.
There are no i-frames on rolls (unless you spec into it)
Releasing the day after Memorial Day when I'd actually have time to play it is basically criminal. I'm glad to hear it doesn't disappoint though.

Just wrapped up UC4 a few days back, gonna pop this back in and try to rush through and get my Dandelion card, BECAUSE IT'S TIME! IT'S TIME! IT'SVADERGWENT TIME!
lol @ GK's score
What's so lol about it?
Wasn't expecting anything less. Should be an amazing journey.
I guess its safe to say this is not Geralt's last adventure. I am sure he will come back but surely not anytime soon.
The score isn't lol, since 8/10 is a decent score and I'm sure there are plenty of critiques to be had to indicate why 8/10 is what they gave it. The problem is the list that someone posted (can't read the full review since I don't speak French) doesn't actually coincide with that score as much and contradicts itself. If the only thing bad they can write about the game is that they wanted more (despite the pro being this has as much content as a full game) and there's some AI bugs, well then they just got lazy with their summary, probably.
8/10 is basically as good as it gets at Gamekult

"95% lower than the average critic"
Well, there are i-frames, though not always they work how you would expect:

Wow, those are some bizarre design choices. This explains the massive inconsistencies I've experienced with dodging. Disabling iFrames after getting hit/after attacking? WTF were you thinking CDP?
It's a bug, and not something intended. I have a ticket logged with CDPR about this and they are investigating it.
That video was from 2015. I replayed TW3 recently and I still found inconsistencies with the dodging. If this is actually a bug then it's been in there since release. iFrames not working properly is massive with regards to combat and I can't imagine that CDP missed this during testing.
The best limitation is that the iframes are removed if you dodge right after dodging. Which means that if an enemy has a sequence of attacks, you have to pause between dodges to obtain iframes, which is just weird. And if you are fighting multiple enemies at once, if they attack in sequence, it means that there may not be enough of a window to "settle down" Gerelt before dodging again, so you just have to take the hit, even though you dodged-- which is terrible design.
This has probably already been answered, yet I was scanning around and couldn't find an answer: Can you jump straight from a new game to this DLC? I played through the main game and the first expansion on X1, but would prefer to switch to the PC version. Can I jump over, or would I have to replay everything?
Exactly.
I can understand them wanting to prevent the player being able to spam dodge but implementing it the way they did is just plain bad. It always drove me up the wall when I was dodging and weaving through enemy attacks only for it to suddenly not work any more. Disabling iFrames right after attacking/using signs punishes players with good reflexes and forcing them to wait just makes the combat more tedious and drawn out.
They shouldn't need to worry about the user spamming the dodge - all they would have to do is tighten up the iframe window so that only some portion of the animation (beginning is the best, as it rewards reflexive observation, but middle would be fine too) is invincible. Then the users that just hammer the dodge button would be open to hits due to bad timing.
And that's just the dodge. The entirety of the fight system is non-causal; attack animations are randomized and have different timings. Additionally, the attacks differ depending on Geralt's distance from an enemy (so they are variant for both distance and some other random variable for animation), meaning you never really know what you are going to get when you hit the attack button.
Non-causal fight system == no bueno

Why, because then it's not like Dark Souls, which is the holy grail of combat and can do no wrong? I hear you about the dodge and i-frames, but don't agree on this.
Geralt is a master swordsman, not a nameless nobody who came from nowhere like the protagonist in Souls games. He needs to have a wide variety of moves and attacks to properly reflect the witchers' fighting style as described in the books, in the lore of the series. I think CDPR did an amazing job in this regard, and I don't see how else they could accomplish this without using randomized/differing attack animations.
The DS system where each attack results in exactly the same type of swing is simple and reliable, and it works well in those games. But it would be horribly out of place and boring as hell in this game. Especially if you consider that, unlike DS with its variety of weapons and their different animations, witchers pretty much always fight with good old swords.
Besides, one of the issues with randomized attacks in TW3 is (again) inconsistency. If Geralt is further away from an enemy he adds a twirl to his attack to close the distance. The problem is that this specific attack sometimes comes out even when Geralt isn't even that far away, resulting in an overly long startup (and your enemy often interrupting you). This is what makes his attacks unreliable (which IMO, is really bad design for an action game).
It can be that the flaws of the combat are less noticeable with interesting enemy behaviour that relies more on your use of signs and bombs, like the wraiths of the main game, or arachnomorphs and boars of HoS for example. It's a shame the combat hasn't been improved, yet the expansion is getting such high reviews. It's the biggest gameplay element of the game and one of the elements of the entire game they had the opportunity to improve upon in this expansion. From what I played of the game (maybe 15-20 hours) it was just not very fun.

Oh that's the Rend&Whirl range extending runeword, isn't it? Love it on Whirl, turns Geralt into a tornado of deathYup. That's why Rend is so amazing coz it's a known fixed animation.

It's very much a your mileage may vary type of deal. I had a great time with the combat (after beating dark souls 3 and bloodborne if thst matters at all). I just hopenthe boss design from HoS comes back. They had such interesting gimmicks that i loved fighting those bosses.
Even with all the issues, I enjoy the combat too. I play more using Signs and heavy attacks though, and so it becomes more of a slower tactical game than a more up in the face fast paced kinda game. Lure things in to Yrden, then Aard knockdown them and then instant kill them. (Bit of a shame that the devs nerfed Yrden though.)
...you do know it's possible for people to enjoy the combat? It's a possibility. I like it quite a bit. It's a shame the combat hasn't been improved, yet the expansion is getting such high reviews.
