Any particular reason why Europeans don't just import from the US? Do you pay VAT on imports?

Yes. It can work out cheaper in some cases though - I quickly compared pricing of a couple of cards on Amazon.com with a customs deposit and it worked out a little cheaper but I guess your mileage may vary. It is worth a look though, Amazon.com are making a big push to make international shipping easier.

£399 for 1070 FE seems reasonable (relatively, at least) so I'm pretty certain I'll be waiting for an EVGA 1070 and getting it whenever; not in much of a rush.

...and it still wouldn't be worth it because if you ever need to RMA the card, you'd be screwed.

Oil price is up from $30 a barrel in February this year to $50 a barrel now and the US dollar has in general a correlation with oil prices...im kinda bullish that the AU will go higher soon. :) But take this with a grain of salt.

Nah the RBA has a vendetta against the dollar at the cost of everything else. Interest rates will drop to zero if the dollar climbs significantly again. The Fed is also hinting at rate increases in the US..that is if everyone over there doesn't flip out and die at the prospect of normality.

God that would be a life saver.... They would literally own the world if they could fix the expensive international shipping. Everything for me is a lot cheaper on Amazon until I get hit with the delivery cost. One way they could do it would be to offer a "slower" option which I would be happier about. Send it in one big container and divide up the shipping costs. I wouldn't do it with everything but it would reduce the cost of delivery for things like big furniture items.

And I really want prime but in its current state it's only good for US users.

I asked this in the other 1080 thread and have gotten someone's valuable opinion(thanks to him)but I'm gonna try here to gather even more.

If you have 2 options: Buy a new gtx 1080 at 910$CAD+ tax, buy a used (not more than 2 days's worth) asus strix 980ti OC edition for 600$CAD no tax or wait to see what the 1070 will have to offer.

If your goal was to play at 1440p ultra/very high settings aiming for 60fps for a couple of years....what would you do?

If you know the source of the 980 Ti, I think it would be hard to turn that deal down.

The 1070 might be just as good though with las power usage, so hard to say.

Good point. It would be nice if Amazon would look after returns for international customers, not sure what the story is there.

The shipping costs aren't actually that bad. Looking here at the cost to ship a 970GTX from Amazon.com to Ireland - less than €19. I have had worse charges for shipping within Europe. It's the customs deposit on top where thing get a bit more nebulous wrt value, and it starts to come up on local prices. It's a shame about the relatively weak euro...back when it was ~1:1.30 it might have been a more clear cut win.

So i have a FE back ordered from Amazon that has a delivery for friday. I was thinking of keeping it and doing a step up program with evga for the custom coolers. Or should I just cancel and wait it out?

Yeah PC parts are fine usually for shipping costs.

I wanted to get some kids furniture. It was $50 and the delivery cost was $150. I guess if you're desperate but at that point it's better to buy locally.

I shipped a 27" monitor ($750) for about $100 which I thought was reasonable.

Why go through all hassle?. just wait 3 weeks tops for a custom coolers to hit the market.

Cancel it unless you want a throttling card due to high temps. The step-up program has all kinds of rules and criteria and can be more hassle than it's worth. You'll only be waiting around 2 weeks more for cheaper, superior non-ref 1080s.

Hopefully the SC version of the 1070 is around 400. I wish we would know more about them now that the 1080 is officially out. I wonder if there is a quicker turn around on those since we have a few weeks between the 1080 and 1070. My poor PC is cardless and I want to play doom :(

What is the difference between the EVGA FTW and Superclocked editions? Should I wait for the latter?

The FTW is going to be a higher clock out of the box and should be able to overclock even higher. The SC is a single 8 pin adapter and the FTW is a dual 8 pin. I think the SC is a white led on the cooler and the FTW has RGB if you care for that sort of thing.

That is a bit better and kinda shows how over priced the 1080 is in the UK. I was expecting the 1080 to be around £500/£550 in the UK which would still be outside of my price range but seriously when I saw the £700 pricing I just laughed.

I am still rocking a GTX670 and feeling the urge to splurge so I might get a 1070 when it hits the £349 mark (which is already 100 quid more than I would ordinarily pay for a GPU).

Founders Edition is a complete rip off, not sure why people are even thinking of buying them.

980Ti is a bad investment if you look at how Nvidia's past two generations are aging. The 1070 may be equal to 980Ti at launch but will pull away in a year plus.

for what its worth i was in the same situation ~2 weeks ago, i ended up selling my asus strix 970 for $300 and got a 980 ti asus strix for $600. so a $300 CAD upgrade (~220 USD)

the upgrade is pretty substantial

So as a 980 Ti owner playing at 1440p I've decided to wait for the 1080 Ti or at least a price drop for the 1080 in the coming months...

No it won't. The architecture is basically the same.

A lot of "experts" have appeared in these threads, spreading misinformation.

The PC thread has a lot of knowledgeable guys in it but these graphics card threads have a huge amount of nonsense in them.

It would be dumb as hell to buy a 980 Ti right now unless you get it at a significant discount (like at around $400 or less). Why buy a less powerful card, with a less advanced architecture and feature set, that also consumes more power and generates more heat and will likely be supported less by Nvidia in the long term when you will be able to get a 1080 or 1070 for cheaper in the coming weeks?

Estimates for the first EVGA cards in the UK:

Hi guys

I will do my best before I hit the sack in Taiwan.

Roughly here is how I see first stocks hitting the UK.

SC - 9th/10th June
FTW - 16th/17th June.
Classified - End of June
Hybrid/Hydro Copper - Early July.

I am afraid I can only be vague at this stage but we are doing all we can. There is more Founders Edition on the way already in strong numbers and will land during this week. Please do not take these dates as gospel but I hope a decent guide for you.

Thanks
Ben

ugly ass logo at the back plate kills that card.
