Finally some new screens!
I've been worried it was cancelled or being "retooled" for mobile *shudder*

This looks SOOO good- hopefully release date announce at E3?

Lol in what world does this actually look better than XV? I know it's the cool thing to hate on XV these days but come on now.

Art style preference?

Does seem weird though that people like bringing up XV in WoFF threads all the time to shit on it. It's possible for them both to co-exist.

So you dont think a story can have lighthearted moments and take itself seriously other times? KH is a strange case because the plot fucked itself over a lot of the time through bad writing and plot contrivance, not the tone of the story itself. There is room for both if the story is done right.

Sure I do. There are great examples in children's literature, like the Wind and the Willows. I just think it's a difficult needle to thread, and don't have a lot of faith in most developers to hit the sweet spot. It can be done though. I think Okami and Ni No Kuni both make a good go of it.

Lighthearted moments for kids but with a serious core is something that could easily describe Pixar movies, or any number of other great stories.

Again, I agree there are examples out there. But I don't think it's usually done well, including in most Pixar films, which I find pretty fatuous (obviously that's an argument for a different thread). In animation, the best examples I can think of are Totoro and Spirited Away.

None if this is to prematurely crap on WoFF. I'm definitely interested to see where they take it. But the screens all give off the vibe of whimsical and silly fan service game made with mechanics top of mind. So I'm curious if the narrative is basically just bolted on top, or whether it's thoughtfully integrated from the ground up.

Looks amazing, and definitely more the kind of Final Fantasy I'm interested in than XV.

Do we know if this is going to have cross save functionality? Would definitely double dip if I can have the same playthrough on the PS4 for at home and on Vita for on the go.

People can like the artsyle I think it looks cool BUT ffxv getting bought up every time in these these threads is getting tiring.

I'll be getting both but was hoping world of ff would be out before xv

That looks dope. Kinda weary with all chibi stuff going on, but I'm hella liking some the character designs here and the battle system looks ace.

Makes me kinda stoked at the thought of playing this on my vita. Shit, will probably be the vita swan song for me.

The art style, to me, looks in the same vein as Kingdom Hearts Unchained x.

I thought I'd hate the look going into it, but I actually kind of dig it.

Unknown's design is so fucking sleek, I love it.

Fall PS4 lineup is ridonkulous. Sony really needs to give out PS4K details so I can get in on this action.

Battle system already put this game ahead anything showed about FFXV.

Plus the gorgeous design.

Day one.

It plays better and that enough to some guys prefer it over FFXV.

Yes it has cross save.

I don't like Odin. He looks like a grim reaper, and his horse is short two legs.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Odin's horse always been two legs short in FF games?

I'm digging what I see, a monster joker/pokemon/whatever with this style? Yes please, give me a date already.

Goodness. I have the Vita version pre-ordered, but may switch it to PS4 because it looks just too damn good for a small screen.

This is the real FFXV you guys.

Final Fantasy XVI

Looks good.

I'm 100% on board with the next mainline game being ATB-ish if that's the direction they decide to go.

But I really hope it doesn't collapse across universes and feature a bunch of random cameos from Warrior of Light and Lightning.

I think the mainline games need to keep existing in their own self-contained universes, or the fiction just takes a nose dive.

Gotta love that Zona Seeker is making appearance. We haven't seen that since FFVI.

One of the more unique looking original summons of the FF series.

Glad to see, with this, FFXIV and FFXV, creatures/monsters that were basically shunned throughout a good deal of the modern FF games are appearing in these games.

This game looks so mediocre. I really don't understand people saying that this is how Final Fantasy should be? In what world? The classic chibi games were stylistic and mature, with stories larger than the video game format. There's no way this game will have a story beyond 10-15 hours of killing the 4 elemental archfiends and Chaos for the umpteenth time, this time featuring Cloud Strife™ from the Final Fantasy™ series.

In the World of Final Fantasy.

It's nice to see more information pop up about this game, it feels like things have been a bit quiet. Hoping it is a 2016 release.

The game looks quite good, although I'm still not sold with the art direction of the main duo (both human and chili forms). It looks even more caricaturists version ofor Kingdom Hearts characters, somehow.

I'm also confused what game this actually is. JRPG, but is it linear? Overworld? What battle system? Frankly I haven't looked too much in depth, but I feel like Square hasn't communicated well yet what this game actually at its core is, other than references to old FF games.

The Kotaku preview gives a pretty good idea of what to expect

1) It’s got ATB-style combat. ATB, of course, stands for Active Time Battle, a staple of older Final Fantasy games (from IV to IX) that crosses menu-based combat with real-time turn gauges. “I’ve also changed it a little bit to add more of a [modern feeling] like current-generation games,” Chiba said, speaking through a translator. Your two main characters can also swap between big and small forms, which will affect their abilities both in combat and in the world.

3) This ain’t no free-to-play mobile game—we already know World of Final Fantasy is coming to PS4 and Vita, but Chiba says it’ll be a full-scale $60 game that takes advantage of both systems’ technical specs to get lots of monsters appearing on screen at once.

4) There’s an actual story. It involves two twins entering a world called Grimoire where all the Final Fantasy characters and monsters live. And Chiba says the plot won’t just be some rudimentary wrapper they slapped on to get you playing. “I personally worked on [Final Fantasys] VI, VII, and VIII so I’m trying to aim for that volume of a story that was in those titles,” Chiba said.

5) It’ll have all sorts of characters and settings from other FF games. The trailer, for example, shows Cloud (FFVII) and Cornelia Castle from the original Final Fantasy. Chiba says you’ll be able to interact with a ton of characters, and that many of them will have their own sidequests and plots to follow as you go through the game.

7) That said, Chiba still wants this to appeal to old-school Final Fantasy players. It’s easy to imagine the graphical style turning a lot of people off, though. “If these fans are looking for a realistic type of game, then this might not appeal to them,” Chiba said. “But World of Final Fantasy does have a lot of elements from the previous titles, and a lot of stuff that’s in there that Final Fantasy fans tend to like, so I feel like it’ll appeal to the new and the old fans.”

8) Chiba tends to work on dark, gritty, mature games. This is not that. In fact, he was given explicit orders from up above to do something lighter with World of Final Fantasy. “I actually had a direct order from [FF brand manager Shinji] Hashimoto in regards to how to approach this title,” Chiba said. “While my games are dark, I’m trying to make this more into a lighthearted, fun type of game. But at the same time, Final Fantasy games are known for their very heavy stories, so I’m trying to keep that in there to keep that Final Fantasy feel in the game

Glad they give CC some love. Now where is my FFCC remake on 3DS?

Also, this game is directed by Type-0's writer IIRC, so good luck with your lighthearted but serious story guys.

The classic chibi didnt really look like this chibi though. I'm not really a fan of how they did that, and prefer the way the "normal" forms look in this game. A good SD style was something in Legacy of Legend or Romancing SaGa PS2.

Should the monster style be something that future FFs aim for? Yes. Should the combat system be something that future FF aim to improve? Probably so, especially with how the battle system could be taken to even greater heights than its been (just imagine the ruckus people would raise if Ys main series became turn based or an SRPG...but thats another thread).

A story can spin off from the normal 4 fiends style with a twist, so thats not a reason for worry.

Hell the first FF game threw the whole concept of rescuing princesses on its head with the time loop.

EDIT: But how the enemy design ended up looking extremely better than the playable character design is beyond me.

Judging by the last video they put out, it's turned based, you run into random battles were 5-10 steps, and each battle takes 5-7 minutes to complete.

Hopefully that's been changed or the game will be 700 hours long.

When they showed it all they really said they would fix was the load times in between battles.

This thread is now a World of Final Fantasy vs Final Fantasy XV debate.

This is about as ridiculous as a Persona vs SMT debate.

For those interested in what the game plays like and how the battle system actually revolves about the monsters and human characters, here's this 1080p 60fps gameplay vid from one of the stage events early this year. They said that the game still had to be improved and that load times would be much shorter in the final build.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIdsEUZp388

That battle transition would be perfect if they can get rid of the loading.

And yeah the game looks very good.

Just wait till Persona 5 vs World of FF vs XV debates begin!

There can only be one!

Hell why even stop there, lets throw Pokemon in here!

I'm super excited for both this and FFXV. They'll each offer unique things, so I've got both preordered for Day 1.

It's great to see Final Fantasy as a brand being able to execute something like this effectively. I hope they make it a great time.
