You can shrink smaller so you can jump on the monsters or grow larger so the monsters can jump on you. The stacking combination has gameplay implications, I can't remember what the story explanation is though. I think it had something to do with a grimoire.
What about the cutscenes? Is it possible to play the entire game in the same form? I wish they would have stick to the chibi form.
I personally like the human sized forms, so i'm glad they give people choice. I think the form you choose to be in carries across the entire game...since these cut-scenes look to be in real time, it may be that if your in a particular form before a cutscene, you'll show up like that
That's nice. It's not that I particularly like the chibi forms but since every FF character seems to be in that form, I'd rather just pick that one. For some reason the concept of changing forms bothers me more than it should, so I'd rather just stick to one if possible.

This game seems better every time I see it. Seems like they are going to get a lot of favorites in the game, but personally, I would like to see more Ivalice Alliance.

You will need to change forms as it's not an option but a mechanic. So probablly impossible to beat the game without changing
it's not really a choice.. it's a gameplay mechanic.

Yep, while I am disappointed that XV is so unappealing to me, the movie and this look sick.
Really can't wait to play this.
The movie and game share the same characters, world, lore etc. If you're interested in all those things from the movie then I don't see why you wouldn't feel the same way about the game. Unless it's the same tired old "jpop boyband har har" complaint then whatever.

1. Disliking character designs is a valid complaint, even if you like them
2. If you're a fan of classic FF style games it might not tickle your fancy. Not that absurd to not be interested in it

The gameplay makes me avoid FFXV... that can be same for him even when the plot/story are interesting.

Can't wait for this! I just hope the don't cancel the Vita version. I swear it was the only time the Vita was mentioned by name at Sony's last E3 conference.

All apply to me, and in regards to the boyband thing, I dislike almost every design I've seen in XV(not just the protags), but I'm loving all the designs in the movie.
I'm interested in the lore and world, but I just don't like the main characters at all and the gameplay doesn't catch me, so the movie directly appeals to me with this.
I'm beginning to think that the most vocal fans of this game are insecure. It's like they really want to shit on FFXV, shit on those who like it and try to feel superior for preferring this game. Always bringing XV up just to shit on it.
But I bet if I went into a XV thread and posted something negative about this game I'd get people shitting on me and also a few dozen PMs in my inbox. Happened before.
Don't get me wrong it's okay to prefer this game and it does look good. It's just that the "XV will suck and you suck for liking it" is just fucking stupid.
Then again it's the FF fanbase so it wouldn't be a FF thread without that shit.

i'll get FFXV, and no doubt it'll be a good game. It's just i think - to me - it's not really FF. The battle system mainly. It's OK i know it'll be good.
But this game looks far better to me. The gameplay footage looked good and interesting. Plus these graphics!! <3

This game looks so fun. I want it on PS4 because it's so visually appealing, but I feel like I would also enjoy playing it on the go. I want the LE and the SE premium is real so I don't really want to double dip but..
I can't even with people this upset about XV already. XIII was too convoluted linear JRPG, Lightning was just she-cloud, and now XV is too WRPG open world action game try hard and Noctis is just too jpop pretty boy. Can you imagine what cloud would have looked like in 1997 if they could have used more than 6 polygons?? Like a 90's Johnny's Entertainment/j-rock cross with a big fucking sword. Calm down. FF hasn't been old school turn based since the beginning of the PS2 era.
Really? Like you said Final Fantasy fans are notorious for breaking out list wars at any opportunity, so it's hardly unexpected when multiple FF games are in the pipeline that people will vocally make comparisons, especially when they channel very different ideas of the franchise.
I'm assuming we'll be seeing a lot more of this at E3, I can't freaking wait.
In regards to cutscenes, I don't think it will be a problem.
Edit: I guess that doesn't necessarily answer the question because we don't know the extent of the size switching but I imagine in the worst case it will be something like Zelda: Twilight Princess where if you're not in the right form by the time a scene is about to happen, either the gameplay (via environment) or the cutscene itself will force you to the correct form.

Jesus Christ, Tiny Yuna is adorable. Also really like Tiny Lightning, but I'm a Lightning mark anyway.

I'd be ok if they were always chibi, and they probably are but I've wanted to see Squall's OG design with SE's current graphical capabilities for a while, so it would be cool if they had a normal size mode.
I bet the story is going to explain it with "considering the amount of power it takes for them to help you, they can only exist in that form" or something similar.
