So... in an effort to break up the string of train posts that'll probably lead to the thread closure if left unchecked...

We know that MS has had something brewing in the strategy area for a while now, the revival of a "beloved strategy franchise." This most obviously points to Age of Empires; Age of Mythology, while certainly beloved, isn't really a franchise. Ditto Rise of Nations and Rise of Legends, though I wouldn't be at all shocked to learn that one of those is somewhere down the road as well.

So, it's been a while, but assuming the rumors are true, Age of Empires is making its' triumphant return at E3. What are we expecting? A return to classic form and times? A continuation along the line of that legendarily trolling timeline in the AoE III CE? Or something completely different?

I'm thinking we're going to go waaaaay back to the original timeframe, the Classical era. Greeks, Romans, etc. Kings marks the series most popular point, true, but now's as good a time as any to get back to basics. As far as gameplay goes, I think they might actually lean into the series' vaguely builder-focused roots; there's not much point in trying to make an esport out of Age of Empires. Mythology seems a much better pick for that, having a smaller number of more diverse factions.

I hope they go waaaaay back. It's a really interesting period and man, AOE1 was fucking amazing. Sure, 2 was better, but i have some fond memories of that game. <3

Yeah, classical period would be a really solid setting, especially if they really open the map up.

I do think it's kinda funny how totally 2 overshadows 1, though. It's probably the best example of the Obviously Superior Sequel, even though like you said, 1 had a lot going for it.

The pathfinding, admittedly, was not part of it :p

I had to do a search to find this thread. Sheesh!

I just listened to the giant bombcast for this week, and speculation is that smaller Xbox One coming this year won't have the HDMI in. I was thinking about getting latest/greatest, but if they remove this I'm sticking with the original. My plasma has limited HDMI in as it is, and I enjoy controlling my TV within the Xbox.

I don't agree at all, the only people that would speculate such a thing are people that don't want it in the first place.

HDMI in is extremely cheap just to maintain as part of the hardware, how much does an HDMI port cost?

In fact I expect the small set top box that is rumored will also have HDMI in, same with Scorpio too.

Hell it would be awesome if the stick had HDMI out on one side and HDMI in on the other.

I also expect that the Scorpio, small set top box and slim will have Kinect port.

1 ticket for the hype train please.

My wish for the "Xbox Stick" or whatever it's called, is that it will act as a receiver for game streaming.

Would be nice to have a lightweight option for streaming to another TV in the house without having to plug in a Windows 10 PC.

I think this is exactly what they are going to advertising it as. A way to spread your gaming computers and xbox consoles throughout your house without needing to buy an Xbox or having a gaming computer for each TV.

I also think the controller revision rumor is a microphone for the controller to help with this kind of stuff.

For example, "Hey Cortana, I'm going to go play Halo 5 in the living room."

Cortana "Alright, you want to continue playing Halo 5 in the living room."

it could then automatically stream the game and put you back where you were and also know to resync the controller when you get near.

Man, they better keep the HDMI in and Kinect, switching to tv without the need to look for my tiny, easy to lose, hdmi switcher remote is a really nice option.

Ah, I didn't even think of this. That alone would be a nice benefit to using the stick over a Windows 10 PC. I usually just leave the controller connected via native wireless to the console, since I don't feel like stretching a USB cable across the room to my PC. If the stick would allow it to sync wirelessly, that's a nice feature.

As long as the controller and the device know they need to resync over the network I don't see how it couldn't be done.

Well that's interesting:

Yeah, I don't see them removing the HDMI In on Xbox Slim or on Scorpio. I do expect, at least for Scorpio a rather large bank of USB 3.0 ports. If Oculus Rift is to be compatible, that alone will need 3 USB 3.0 ports to work. I expect them to have about 5-6 USB 3.0 ports on the Scorpio.

I think Microsoft is going to announce a lot of big titles for backwards compatibility. If their recent sale was anything to go by I'd guess: Bioshock series and Rockstar games (GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, & LA Noir). Here's to being hopeful 🍺

DR3 was fantastic. A new one that wasn't a launch title would be even better hopefully.

It's such an underrated launch title, I agree that a new DR without launching with the console could potentially be a fantastic game.

I really hope so dude, everything can use more USB 3.0 ports.

I agree, there will probably be a dump of BC games at the conference.

"We know how much you guys are loving BC, *stats on amount game released and hours played* and here are more for you to enjoy!

Y'all got place for a dead franchise on that hype train ?
One please.

No worries, I could probably fill it with unused Microsoft IPs.

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
I think it would be interesting if Kinect ditches the camera and just focuses on voice commands, then the Scorpio can have that built into the system. So that would be a prediction I have for that announcement if it's made at E3. I doubt they'll keep Kinect in its form now going forward but Cortana is going to play a huge part.

I think it's more likely that the mic will be built into the controller with the controller revision.

That would work too, although if Kinect is ditched then "hands free" goes with it if the mic is built into the controller. Voice commands would likely be stronger and better though, and gaming would benefit much more from it.

You'll need Kinect for VR since I doubt MS will want to include the Occulus VR sensor.
