Nintendo Details 2-Day Treehouse at E3

I thought The Tree House was a terrible way to present your wares, especially to those outside of the Nintendo faithful. Preaching to the choir is perhaps good enough to maintain for now but they'll need to push out sooner or later.

Something new and a proper conference would be my preference.

The developers of a game showing off their product running in realtime seems like a much easier sell to the average customer than some marketing pitchman talking over canned footage.

Next Week: Guys, we're actually going to have an E3 conference this year.
On E3: And you guys thought we weren't going to show the NX this year.
September: The NX is releasing on November.
January: So the NX is NOT a thing that exists.

I do not understand starting the stream with Pokemon. That makes zero sense to me when you're unveiling a new Zelda game.

Because Pokémon has a ridiculously huge fanbase and a lot of people will watch the Sun/Moon stream. They'll possibly stick around for Zelda too.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

I mean, I get that.

But this is the first new Zelda we're seeing in years. Everybody knows the Pokemon formula. Nobody knows what to expect with this new Zelda. It seems like it should be leading the show.

LMAO Nintendo.... I literally sold my Wii U after the Zelda debacle because I was just gonna play Zelda on NX and their lack of announcements meant there was nothing really to justify holding on to it until the NX came out.

How about an europe release for 7th dragon III eh nintendo?

I will say I really enjoy the treehouse streams, seem pretty laid back and a good way to get a look at some games

From the original thread:

While they've added Pokemon to Day 1, it feels good being right :)
I was adamant that this was how it was going down from that announcement on.

Pretty much, can't believe that people thinking Zelda would be literally the only thing at E3 were for real.

Some people act like consoles are these things they're holding onto that will slip away lol

Well, Pokémon is a bigger deal, but I would find it weird if they didn't start off with something Zelda. I mean, the showfloor will be open, the game featured everywhere. There might be a big banner with the final name, a bunch of footage and trailers, perhaps some statue of a new character. It would feel strange to sit there and watch Pokémon inside the Zelda booth without them spilling some basic beans about the game.

People seem to have this idea that Directs and Treehouse Live streams are only available with a super secret password that only Nintendo fans know. They are available to anyone, and can be, and often will be, reported on by news networks in the same way videos for other publishers that are released to the general public will.

EDIT: And yes, I agree. I think having the game demoed live, often by their developers is a good selling strategy as long as the game is good enough to be shown.

Show floor doesn't open until 12:00 PDT, giving three hours between start of Treehouse and public access

I think your frustrations with 7th Dragon are being aimed at the wrong party.

On what metric? One game has Nintendo's best internal developers working on it. One game has the largest AAA development budget ever dispensed by the company. One game is essentially a media headliner. One game is a pure Nintendo IP (not co-owned with various partners). None of these is Pokemon.

Although Pokemon is an overall giant revenue stream, it's a shared IP, and also a cyclical franchise that isn't meant for dazzle. .

That game will sell itself though.

Not even sure why they are streaming it let alone first.

How long am I going to have to wait for the main event???

Sun/Moon will sell itself, and the people it will sell itself too will come to the stream. More views, more eyes on the stream and Zelda, etc. Not really that hard to see what they're doing.

Pokemon will sell about 2-3 times more is probably the metric he's going by. Where the hell did you get that about the budget?

It's always agonizing that Easy Allies can't cover these in the week's podcast because for some goddamn reason these news reveals always happen after Wednesday.

Or they realize that if Zelda was first, everyone would be talking about that and rewatching the footage afterwards and no one would stay for a game that everyone knows what it will look and play like.

They're starting with Sun/Moon now??

Ugh, I only have about an hour to watch Treehouse Live before I have to go to work but I expected I'd get to see Zelda before I had to leave. Now I'm probably gonna miss at least a majority of the Zelda segment :(

Metroid and Paper Mario should be sent back to the drawing board.

EDIT: I'm sure both of the games will be there. But if your Nintendo PR and you want people to get hyped for the E3, those are two games you don't mention.

Paper Mario will probably sell much better than some of those games, though.

But, I do wonder if despite the word "including" implying more will be shown, if we will see major unlisted games like Paper Mario and Metroid. I guess I want to keep my expectations low so I'm not disappointed if we don't see more Paper Mario there. But, I think regardless of Treehouse showings, we'll get a Direct before or after E3 time (unassociated with E3) announcing Mother 3 and showing off Paper Mario. And probably Rhythm Heaven, Picross 3D2 and Box Boy 2.

They're starting with Sun/Moon now??

To me it's kinda unclear if they're starting with Sun/Moon or not.

Metroid Federation Force is most definitely, truly, without a shadow of a doubt 100% a Metroid game and it belongs in the Metroid universe.

None of these is Pokemon.

Ill tell you what Pokemon is, it is a cash cow, with x4 times the fanbase of Zelda. Making it top priority is the smart move.
Edit: what do you know about the budget of Zelda anyway??

Where's the Mother 3 VC announcement?

How the company is right now is very similar to how Disney behaved after Disney's death.

Basically two great men were stearing by themeselves their company and without them those companies dont know how to fuck behave until its totally settled and they learn in their next years of how each department needs to behave.

Another big point of how much is Iwata still missed :(

Seems quite clear to me

"and first live gameplay of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon that kicks off the program!"
"Tune in starting at 9 a.m. PT to see Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon in action, followed by the world’s first in-depth look at the new Legend of Zelda game. "

Well, there it is.

They obviously didn't have these plans a month ago.
And before that they obviously didn't have the Zelda-only plans. I think Sony and Microsoft destroyed Nintendo's hardware plans all together with the upgrades. I expect a delay to fall 2017, at the earliest.

Thanks Joe. I missed the second part. :)

I thought the full quote for the first part was a bit more ambiguously worded, but I may have just been reading it into it too much. So I guess Reggie will intro Zelda after the Pokémon stuff. What a messy messaging. It seems they did change their minds about only showing Zelda.

I'm really glad that 7th Dragon III, Rhythm Heaven, and the Dragon Quest games are being shown off. Looking forward to the Pokemon gameplay, too.

About goddamned time they realized that showing off the new Pokemon game during the series' 20th anniversary at the biggest trade event of the year is a good idea.

Still so freaking depressive that the only upcoming Wii U game they are showing is that anime crossover game thing. So awful.

Game looks good. Sad thing is it'll be out the following week, not that the game looks bad.
Theres no other games though.. lol

You want to watch colorsplash?
yes? Colorsplash looks like it might be a better sticker star. Sticker star was deeply flawed but a few tweaks could have made it good.

Ahh, that's better. I'll tune into Day 2 randomly and skip Day 1 since I'm on my Zelda media blackout. I'd still like to see Paper Mario though, I liked Sticker Star for what it was, flaws and all.

I'm used to there being hype train threads every year in anticipation for nintendo's e3, but they pretty much killed that this year. Not impressed with this new ceo so far.

No problem if they show it or not Im just asking..and the fact thats the only other Wii U game. Personally I have no opinion on ss or color splash.
No it really doesn't. lol
Yes it really does. lol. You cant get mad at everyone who likes certain games just because of a couple character designs. Leave people alone sometime please.

Looks like a fun persona spin-off. Sorry it doesn't appeal to you. (unless you're talking about actual aesthetics and character designs, which I can see. Game still looks fun to play, though.)

Seeing as no one has played it and from what we've seen in the last Direct, it does look good.

It's been out in japan for a while. Decent impressions but low sales numbers.

Oh, is reila in the 'nintendo censored the game therefore it's bad' camp, or something else? I'm sorry, I'm not familar with the poster's tastes.

Maturity, bitches.
So we go from believing that Nintendo was only going to show Zelda to Nintendo is showing more than Zelda and people are mad? Mad that they showing more than one game?
