Hitman (2016) PC performance thread

Yeah Im still getting random drops in strange places. It can be super populated and I'll have 80fps but I'll look in some random direction and it will go down to 20.

Running at 1440p on a Titan X.

Is there any visual difference between DX12? I have a 980ti, and while I still get >70 fps avg from the benchmark in dx12, I'm just curious why I would want to run DX12 over 11?

This new 130mb patch killed the performance for me. Game worked better when i tried it yesterday. :/

Still no luck with wrong Hz in native resolution. :(

Wtf is happening with the PC of this game??

I only purchased and started playing the game yesterday, spent about an hour trying to get the performance in crowded areas to a solid 1080p60, but couldn't do that without lowering multiple settings. Surprised max settings are too much for a 5820k@4.4 | 980Ti@1.4 | 16GB DDR4. Doesn't sound good if the latest patch makes things worse, the game doesn't even look all that hot.

Looking at my CPU/GPU usage, CPU has even usage across most cores, and GPU usage maxes out whenever there are more than 4-5 characters on the screen at once. Have only been able to really play in DX11 mode, DX12 gets stuck in 24hz whenever VSync is turned on. Forced VSync through the NVCP doesn't work at al in DX12 either.

Very disappointed, thought any kinks would have been worked out by now.

I got around the Hz issue by creating a custom resolution of 1920x1079. I wish I were joking.

Edit: at above, bump down LoD from Ultra and you'll see some a more stable 60. Looks the same as well IMO

Seems like I tried setting LOD down a notch and was hitting a low of 55-56 instead of 52-53. I will double check later on. I would assume that performance can only get worse from the beginning area of the initial tutorial?

Lol, since the last patch now my Dx12 is totally borked. As in, the game won't launch. At least it works fine in dx11 but the framerate falls too much in the scenes with the highest amount of detail and distance vision (like from the ruins looking at the villa).

edit: using -SKIP_LAUNCHER as parameter it worked. Uh.

I still have fps issues in some rooms with my 980ti, I wonder what I could play around with to fix it
had 0 issues in paris

Very odd. My 980ti isn't hitting above 90% using the latest patch. I realise I am saying this every post but do not use DX12. performance sucks.

Max out all settings, barring the slider ones, use fullscreen mode not exclusive fullscreen, and with things set the latest patch has smoothed things out for me. Before the patch my GPU was going wild, topping out at 79c, but with the patch from a couple of days ago, it runs 10c cooler.

My system has less CPU cores than yours, so unless the CPU is causing issues, I don't know what to say - very happy with performance now - hope they don't break it again!

The results are quite disappointing.
The 4GB Nano shows better texture quality with DX11 than a 980 Ti with 6 GB (+50% more memory!) under DX12.
The CPU results are convincing but the GPU side makes it quite worthless in many cases.

I will have a chance to try the latest patch out tonight, I played the day before it released, hopefully it fixes my performance issues. Haven't been able to play DX12, but will definitely stay away after hearing of worse texture streaming being a possibility.

The game keeps crashing to the desktop every once in a while (like every 30-50 minutes, sometimes it happens twice in quick succession). Anyone else experiencing this?

On a 970, Win 10, DX11, 2500K.

I am not happy with the performance and i am not talking about 2 big levels. I am talking about that intro on the boat. It goes below 30 on 1080p on Ultra settings. Fullscreen, can't test Exclusive Fullscreen. On 1440p it's unplayable. it goes to 20.
It works ok, around 35-45 but when i enter that boat full of NPCs performance is really not good. I wonder would DX12 do anything for me since i am on W7 and can't test it.

Was close to refunding this initially. I'm using a 980ti with the latest drivers. DX12 mode doesn't work, enabling v-sync with Exclusive Fullscreen causes 30Hz output and there seems to be some framedrops here and there (seemingly to do with asset streaming or just problem spots).

Switched to DX11 and 'Fullscreen' (borderless window with triple buffered v-sync, right?), turned off RTSS (causes framepacing issues) and switched shadow resolution down to medium.

It runs well now but I can't say I'm impressed on how much this is taxing my gpu given the visuals on display. Looks pretty dated to me.

Agreed, I bought it on a whim, and have 3 hours on record, so no refund is available. It's extremely taxing on one of the most powerful graphics cards on the market, and it looks like a best graphics contender from 2012. Pretty pathetic attempt at a PC game overall.

Just got an update, DX12 now works, at 30HZ :(

They fixed DX11 running at 30Hz in Exclusive Fullscreen, I guess that's something.

Exclusive Fullscreen is still broken for me on DX11. If I run either DX12 or DX11 with Exclusive Fullscreen, it runs 30 fps and I get no sound.

This is on a 980.

Are there any settings that are recommended to turn down? Not too happy with the performance on my i5 6600k and 970 GTX.

Shadow resolution from high to medium brings decent gains for little perceptible change. Some areas (in Sapienza especially) are just poorly optimised though.

From the patch/DLC notes.
PC-specific Improvements

The Game Launcher now displays resolutions higher than 2560x1440. These options were previously available but only via the in-game graphics settings.

Fixed an issue where the FPS may lock to 60 after alt+tab

Performance and framerate improvements, particularly for DX12.

Fixed various crash issues when loading and restarting missions.
It's not live yet it seems, so if anyone plans to run some before and after benches, now's the time.

Just installed latest 3.5GB Patch.

Game starting in wrong Hz and locking FPS when in Exclusive Fullscreen is STILL NOT FIXED. After more than one month, they did nothing to fix this!

Yes, it's still broken for me in both DX11 and DX12. I'm going to try and forget about this game for a few months, and hopefully it'll be fixed by the time I get back to it.

I don't really know. IO is so slow on fixing stuff, I mean they fixed the subdue bug in Ep 3 while it should be patched with an hotfix the day after. It seems they really don't care.

The benchmark sequence ending part is changed in v1.2.0. The results are higher but you can't compare versions via the built-in tool as it's not apples to apples. I wonder what's the reason for this change? To create an impression of better performance by cheating with benchmark sequence?

Yep.
At least I can alt+tab a few times to fix it this time (like some were able to in the previous patch). Baby steps, I guess.
But still very disappointing.

i5 2570k and GTX 660 Ti - game performance is really bad. Frame rate is all over the place, crunching down to sub-30 I think when I turn a corner into a room with a crowd. Lots of tearing since I can't afford to VSync. Very sad but pushing through it. First game I've gotten that isn't really playable on my rig at any settings.

Oh, I guess I should mention I'm trying to run at 2560x1080, so I could probably rescue myself by dropping that down to 1080p or something.

That's a strange change.

i5 3570k / 970. I swear every time I launch the benchmark after a major patch my FPS in that first shot drops by another 5 lol. I truly did not expect things to get worse over time.

Edit: DX11 and Medium settings across the board can't even hold 60. It at least hovers around 50, but even then, it's a stuttery, awful feeling 50. I've wound up playing exclusively on a controller so far because it just feels so janky and imprecise with a mouse.

Using the same graphical settings, DirectX 12 gives me considerable gains in Marrakesh's crowds. Using DirectX 11, the plaza gives me 50-60 FPS with occasional dips to 45. Using DirectX 12, I get steady 70+, borderline 80 FPS. Anyone else experiencing this?

What card?

I definitely do not get 60 in Marrakesh on dual 980 SLI at 1080p even with AA off. It's definitely the worst running level for me. The school and consolate are generally fine, but anytime moving around the main marketplace, all those NPCs just tank the framerate. It's still above 30, and probably 40-50 in DX11. Guessing I get similar performance to the video. Also even if I turn the settings down it doesn't seem to help much when it comes to giant crowds and I have a i9 4500k or something that I just built last year for the cpu. The crowds just need optimizing if we want the game to run better in DX11.

I haven't even tried DX12 because SLI doesn't work in DX12 so I'd lose one of the cards.

Yup, seem like DX12 is now the total opposite to Sapienza where it was utter shit.

They supposedly improved DX12 perf in the latest patch, have you tried Sapienza again?

Anecdotally the latest patch feels a lot better than the one before it for whatever reason. I didn't bench any like for like scenarios so no actual numbers, but maybe they are finally on the right track.

I have an i7 4790 with two 970's, but they're not in SLI because they are from different, incompatible manufacturers. One is dedicated to PhysX and the other is used for actual rendering. I also got 16Gb of RAM and am using Windows 10.

My graphic settings for the game are:

1080p resolution
Windowed Mode (Because Fullscreen was crashing and it screws up my refresh rate)
Vsync is OFF, but Interval is set to 1 nonetheless.
Level of Detail is set to Medium
Anti-aliasing is SMAA
Texture Quality is on High
Texture Filter is set to 16x
SSAO is On
Shadow Maps are on Ultra
Shadow Resolution is on Medium.

Outside of your CPU being clocked a little higher than mine we have the same setup. Has performance improved at all for you? Really love Hitman but reading your performance issues is disheartening to say the least.

I still think the crowd hitching is CPU related, as I get stuttering even when dropping all graphics settings down. I do have a 6700k though even so. I might have to try and see if DX12 improves matters.

Just wondering. What's your lowest fps with high/ultra settings at 1080p in marrakech using a 6700k? Also which GPU do you have?
