Super Saiyan 2 Blue and an image of Goku and Vegeta using the fusion dance have popped up. 99% sure this is Heroes only stuff, but just playing it safe in case it DOES hit the main series.

Toriyama mentions having re-read the manga when DBS started, but the manga version of Future Trunk's story differs on some points from the OVA, and there's no mention of Roshi or the others.

Normally this would enter the 1000 year dragon people in child bodies, creep territory.
But Mai nowadays dresses p conservatively, whereas those dragon people normally will show up in bikini armor; seems they removed their relationship from the BoG movie, where Mai and Trunks were a (childish) couple as kids, and moved the relationship to their adulthood. I am still assuming present day Mai will see them together and seek a relationship with kid trunks, which would be odd, but we'll see.
It's fine, tho it could devolve into creep territory; there will probably be (if there's not already) some p disturbing doujinshi, but then again, there would be anyway.

And yet people still think her being a potential interest for Trunks is the weirdest thing in the show.
I've been very interested in starting new Dragonball recently, but I have a question I don't think was covered in the OT.. what's superior, the two movies, or those same stories told through the show? From what I understand they unfold a bit differently in the show.
(yes, I know you said we'd be fine if we just watch the movies and start later in the series, but I'm more so asking which is the superior take on those two introductory stories to the new series)

30 years is a long-ass time for a franchise to exist. I wonder if we'll still be talking about new Dragon Ball stuff another 30 years out. (That said, considering how Star Wars is doing, I can't say I'd be shocked if we were.)
Given the time lapse, it was only a matter of time before SS2 and SS3 were rendered obsolete by later advances. But, damn, the power gradient really is too ridiculous now. Are we going to be seeing SSG and SSB for player characters in XV2? How do the other races even keep up in that scenario? It's starting to get to the point where I can't suspend my disbelief anymore.
The show works on one power gradient, and the games work on another, completely separate one where fights are never as one-sided as they are in the show (obviously for gameplay reasons, but still). I just don't like that. Some consistency would be nice.

In terms of story I'd say the BoG arc is better than the movie and the F arc is worse than its movie. Animation wise the movies are both better, but the BoG arc does still have some cool stuff.

I dunno man, Fairy Tail is the perfect "fast-food" shounen in my opinion.
It just Hurst that the man delivering it is also responsible for Rave Master, one of the greatest overlooked Shounen Mangas I know.
But I had enough years to accept this fact.
I would just watch the movies. The differences in the show are minor, it would be a much easier/quicker way to catch up, and the RoF arc specifically in the show is really, really bad.
battle of gods movie is definitely the best intro into all the new stuff

-Toriyama just doesn't age characters anymore. Bulma and Chi Chi look actually younger than they did in the Buu Saga
- Pilafs botched wish in the 3 years before the Androids shown up.
I think that, even if Mai is a bit older/younger that Bulma, it's not like she would have the same mentality from a woman of her ages.
Mai was always an old-fashioned girl, so it's not like she is a old lady wanting to date a kid because she don't have any malicious (outside world domination, I guess)

Either way you should definitely watch the Champa arc after you're done with BoG and F, it starts at episode 28.

Future Pilaf and Shu are nowhere to be seen in the promotional material, the NEP or the PV... I'm guessing they're dead.
