Xbox One S has additional CPU/GPU power, games can look and run better

Can't be that much different in terms of power. Maybe 10-20% faster at most, overall.

On par with PS4, perhaps? That would be an ideal goal for them.

Devkits will still probably use original XB1 specs.

At best you'll get 10-15% clock bumps. So >2GHz CPU and >1GHz GPU. They won't be something that will massively close the gap between the XB1 and PS4, but XB1 games will run much smoother on the S.

Are there any XB1 owners considering getting an S and a Scorpio? 0_o

I was considering it. But I think I will just get PS4 Neo. My launch Xbox One is working flawlessly, no reason that thing will give up anytime soon. So I will just to directly Scorpio next year.

Yep. A Slim in August/September for UHD Blu-ray support and the Scorpio next year to move the Slim to my bedroom and become the main entertainment center piece.

Yep, I'll definitely be buying the slim for Gears 4 and FH3. Then depending on how Scoprio looks, I'll either sell the slim and get the scorpio or just keep the slim and still get the scorpio. Either way, right now, I will have an xbox one for those two amazing looking games.

My concern with this hdr talk is when something is displayed in hdr on my tv it goes into an hdr mode.
In game mode my tv is in the 30's for input lag but out of that and its over 65 which aint gonna be acceptable so that pretty lil hdr effect wont be gettin used

Maybe. Though I have a decent PC, most of my friends are on Xbox One so Microsoft going Win10 isnt really going to help me if I want to play something like Destiny with them. We'll see if third parties are tempted to go crossplay. The S kills two birds with one stone, I'll sell my current X1 and my Samsung 4K player for it.

The controller is now Bluetooth? How is it compatible with old xbox ones then? dual mode?

it's very good for PC use now, no dongle required

Curious to see if this benefits backwards compatible titles in the frame rate department.

Smaller, white, and internal power is enough to sway me, just so long as it's still quiet.

Interesting that in the second pic the USB ports are not numbered, but one is labeled Kinect.

Still looks like a usual USB port, maybe that one provides enough power through the adapter to power it?

Cool

Did they mention this in the conference? Seems like big news to leave out.

Nah. Doesn't seem like it's enough of a power bump to mention and Ben get people's expectations to high.

A slightly more stable Framerate here and then will be imperceivable to most.

The Kinect port has HIGHLY LIKELY a higher amperage, so the Kinect gets enough juice.

Ok, I guess if it isn't advertised, it doesn't exist?

Come on, don't be obtuse. Of course it exists, but this isn't some big huge noteworthy feature, nor is this an "Xbox One.5" as he was talking about. This probably won't even match the PS4. It's an Xbox One, just with a spec boost so modest they didn't even mention it out loud during it's announcement at a massive press event.

Not me. Mild spec boost is nice, but not worth the upgrade when I can wait a year for a real upgrade. I can deal with a few more resolution drops in Gears 4 in the meantime. And I probably won't even get Scorpio at launch. I'm guessing that even if it does get exclusives, it won't be anything high profile for quite a while. Thinking I'll just hold out for the inevitable Halo 6 special edition so I can finally own a limited edition home console, lol.

Phil said in the interview with Major Nelson that it has a built in IR blaster for people without Kinect and those that do can still connect it. The Kinect plug is different so will it come with an adapter? Or will you have to buy that separately?

Edit:

Currently yes, but you need an adapter that you must buy from Microsoft :

They said that people upgrading from One to One S could ask for a free adapter from MS.
But it would be great if a new revision of Kinect would be USB only...

Oh ok thanks.

You can order the Kinect => USB Adapter via xbox.com for free.

Ah, okay cool, thanks for the info. Yeah, as someone who just bought an Xbox One without a Kinect, I really would like to try it and given how much they seem to have upgraded the system, I'd love to see a similar treatment for Kinect. I think even that name is probably considered toxic at MS now though.

Edit:
Does the PC version of the Kinect use USB? That would make sense.

Ah right, of course there had to be a way. Derp.

No, Many chose PS4 for MS's initial brainfart of all SKU's Kinect bundled always online DRM, takes people a while to forget what happened with the original launch announcement, although clearly some forget quicker than others.

It's business. Mistakes were made and they're moving past them. Most gamers aren't invested in console wars or Gaf gaming drama.
