Xbox One S has additional CPU/GPU power, games can look and run better

Yeah..

DF Face Off: PC vs PS4 vs PS4Neo vs XBox1 vs Xbox1 S vs Xbox1 Scorpio

And NX, right guys?

Right?

(I wonder what DF would do with NX if the daisy-chained supplemental computing devices wind up being a thing)

Its likely a specs bump they got for free due to the shrink. They had something similar when xenom and xenos become a soc but had to hardware engineer an artificial bottleneck.

I think this might be a small clock bump, and not Polaris efficiencies since that would require new APIs.

I've done that the last 2 video cards I owned, sold my 970 and upgraded to 980 Ti, then sold the 980 Ti to upgrade to the 1080.

It's a nice way to live, but I can't really imagine someone getting a lot of money for an original Bone when the S comes out, and the S when the Scorpio comes out? I dunno.
So you are saying old GPUs sell for a nice price (almost like wine that gets better over time), but the Xbox One just rots after a while? Sorry, I'm confused.

So it is in essence not just a console revision but a new console altogether if it has increased CPU/GPU. I think this is probably a misspeak. They wold have announced it if it had greater power allowing for enhanced visuals no, even if they were miniscule differences.

Username is quite descriptive here...

Are there any XB1 owners considering getting an S and a Scorpio? 0_o

Yea, but admittedly I got an incredible deal on my X1, have $300 Dell credit waiting for X1S to hit Dell.com that was free with my new 4K tv, and, to be honest, have no real responsibilities like a house or kid so my money is rent, car, insurance and then hobby; I've spent years working hard and catching up my credit debt so this summer I'm going reckless (within my budget) - PSVR, X1S, few vacations - and coming back to reality come Fall and start saving come Winter.

It's all about living within your means : You can have anything, you can't have everything.

...lacks reading comprehension.
This is AMD's new SoC for 2016. Neo and Scorpio are both 2017 (and now we know why AMD projected so low revenues from their three SoC deals, one of them is the Slim with a much lower price and potentially a redundant system in 2018) which means Nintendo is doing Nvidia. Tegra for the handheld, high powered Tegra for the console for optimal cross platform support.

Yep. I am tired of dragging the giant ass original Xbox One to and from college, and my little sister has really taken to playing it at home. I think I'll probably leave it with her, get myself an S and then jump on Scorpio when it launches.

*shrug*

So it seems like the clock bump is pretty small, if only to manage framerates and dynamic resolutions... probably why they didn't talk about it much.

Isnt HDR for the UHD blurays or video content? I dont think the S is anything UHD other than video...

GoW4 and FH3 will support HDR as touted on the official page:

High Dynamic Range
Experience richer, more luminous colors in games like Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3. With a higher contrast ratio between lights and darks, High Dynamic Range technology brings out the true visual depth of your games.

Sooo, Jeff_Rigby was right? And if he was right about this....oh god...

OT, I will probably flog in my XB1, all of my games and stuff are on an external 4tb hard drive, so I can chop that in, get the XB1s and then Scorpio whenever that comes out and then I can move the PS3 out of the bedroom to the archives and mothball it and stick the 1s in the Bedroom media center.

Sell off my xbox 360s and the Wii and just move to XB1s, Scorpio and maybe Neo, I dont plan on doing PSVR so I don't know if it will have any worth to upgrade, I may just stick to the PS4.

Also any recommendations for a 4k 60+" HDR with a decent panel and response under 2ms for gaming, gears looked amazing on the MS stream, way better than the youtube one and If the S has a slight performance bump and still has TV in then I am going to need something with better performance.

We need someone to get this hardware and check what's inside. I'm surprised that it's supposed to be more powerful than the original. I may consider sellind my XBO to buy this.

I don't really get what MS is doing anymore. Why are they making devs have to optimize a console game 3 times for 3 revisions of 1 console in a 2 year span?

I don't really get how people can't get that devs already target several hardware combinations and their engines are already ready for exactly that, so is a large part of the middleware.

So is this true or....?

I saw when it popped up a few hours ago and thought it was bs but checking in it seems like we believe it?

I see, I stand corrected then. Now the million dollar question is what's the input lag on TVs when hdr is enabled in games... most reviews test on video but we don't know what the input lag on TVs would be when HDR is enabled. Also HDR are two standards, either HDR10 or Dolby vision, however on UHD blurays, how is this going to be enabled in games?

Like Proelite said it's probably not intended but a free gift from the die shrink. Remember, same thing happened with the 360 S. Only difference I see is that apparently devs can tap into this extra itty bitty boost with these scalable engines.

so the S doesn't have a port to plug in Kinect?

That's a bummer, would have liked to have kept it.

Kinect must REALLY be dead now.

There will be an adapter and someone said it's free for existing owners... don't know if this was confirmed anywhere.

I asked Mark Rein if he can tell us how much more powerful it is. He simply said "no"
No indication on whether because he has no information or he is not allowed to.

Yeah I am. S this year to replace my OG XB1, and then that will get relegated to second room for Scorpio. That way I've got 2 UHD players capable of sharing the same library of games in different rooms.
