Days Gone (Sony Bend, UE4) - E3 2016 Gameplay Walkthrough

Pretty funny that we had a few similar looking games in the conference, but yeah it fell flat. Gunplay looks a bit shit frankly, although the hordes would technically impressive.

A lot of you have tremendous difficulty enjoying or appreciating anything without shitting it up, huh? Lol
I think it looks great.

Don't get the hate....really, wtf.
Boring? Meh?

I think we've reached a point where we are way too spoiled. This was an amazing looking game - I can't wait to see more of it.
Things are hated here constantly. Just gotta learn to ignore them, even if they're wrong.
You people are seriously hating on it? Thats it for me neogaf, enough bad vibes

Are you all seriously upset that there are people on NeoGAF with dissenting opinions from your own? People are allowed to express themselves when they don't like something and there is no reason to dump on them for it.

This is a forum for crying out loud, people discussing their differing opinions is its primary purpose.

As someone said the only was this would capture my attention is if it was The Last of Us: Day's Gone. If it was such an impressive concept that Sony would suggest that and Naughty Dog would allow it.

Otherwise it looks like a zombie game devoid of charm. The only thing I found impressive about the entire demonstration was the technology.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

Its a message board, they can also comment on what other people not reacting like they were expecting. Or are you upset that people are upset? ;D

So it's not allowed to build/form its own "charm"?

I don't understand the comparisons with TLOU. I mean, Days Gone is set in an open world, TLOU is not. Days gone has hordes of zombies while TLOU focus on stealth and slow paced gameplay. Naugthy Dog has close to 300 employees. Last time I checked Bend studio had about a 100.
And it is not like we have any zombie survival third person open world game on Ps4.
It must be harsh for a not so big development team like this to finally reveal their game and see a bunch of spoiled people nitpicking on it. I hope this only happens on gaf.
Loved the way that the zombies don't just stand there and wait for you to split them in half with some kind of silly weapon.
Keep up the good work Bend. I'm sure the game will be great.

It looks exactly like TLoU. Had they called it TLoU: Days Gone and thrown in a few Clickers no-one would have raised an eyebrow.

I find it really frustrating to see so many people take up such a condescending tone just because they see people disagreeing with them in a thread. That's not a mature way to go about things and doesn't make for good discourse. It's borderline shitposting.

I've been super excited for what Bend has been working on and I thought it looked great. The number of enemies on screen was amazing. They were playing a live (scripted) demo, the infinite ammo + one shot kills + easy mode were just for effect so he didn't die. I think the game looks great, and I'm a total sucker for the Naughty Dog-inspired action/adventure cinematic action/adventure titles coming out.

It's probably one of my favorite genres of game to play, and everything they've said about it in the post show make it sound phenomenal. Like some kind of TLOU-inspired I Am Legend thing.

Looks ok, but I was hoping for vampires, ala I Am Legend; travel and gather supplies in the day, hunker down @ night, etc.
Oh well.

Edit: didn't even see the other I Am Legend name drop in the post above until after I posted this, lol

Waste of talent ? Bend is not forced to do this, they wanted to make this and its has been in development for 3+ years and still not quite there according to them as they finished core ideas recently. Its a new IP and plays with the strengths of Last of Us using story focused single player game but in a open world (not multiplayer focused like others been doing). Hopefully their next demo shows the gameplay they are targeting properly.

Yes, waste of talent. What's not being forced to do anything have to do with it? They can easily waste their talent on their own by making a 100th zombie game with no identity, forcing the player to shoot these mindless meat pieces for the whole 50 hours of the campaign. The game may be good - in spite of that - but the zombie theme is so off putting to me that my expectations are automatically set to the lowest possible.

My point was that the demonstration was charmless. The trailer that played before to.

It just seems uninspired.

Well "charm" being completely relative means it's entirely up to one's perspective. I too thought it was perhaps a Last of Us tie-in in some way initially until i saw the zombies/infected. Not entirely interested in the game but not going to label it until we've more information about it.

I've always had that idea of using an oil filter as a silencer, I desperately wanted it in the TLoU with scavenging being a big part of it. I'm glad these guys have realized this mechanic.

I really like what these guys are doing. There are many zombie games out there, but I don't remember the last time I saw the player chased by huge swarms of zombies in a sandbox like this.

Lol at waste of talent, sure you aren't serious.

It needs another demo that shows the open-world environment, riding around, caves, night time and setting traps (from the promo talk). It looked like TLOU because it was a scripted sequence, but an open-world survival game would be very different to play.

I'm very excited for this game and km really interested in seeing what DG has to offer, but yes, absolutely, before they showed the monsters I was convinced Bend was making a game set in the TLOU universe, which I would also be totally okay with. I think I even said aloud "Did they give Bend Last of Us?"

I'd say it's a waste of money and time to have yet another zombie shooter in the fucking United States.

Why does this have to be in the US again? There are so many countries in the whole world yet for the millionth time it's in the US.

I guess I'm in the minority that found the demonstration to be not super exciting (within the context of what they actually showed).

The last of us
Horizon zero dawn
Now this? Mehhhhhhhhhhh

So you're saying that post-apocalyptic games are getting tiresome based on those two examples? One is an amazing game, and the other isn't even out yet - also those games have almost nothing in common, really.

It's like saying "Shooting things, AGAIN!? Meeeeh"

And like we haven't seen a myriad of the same posts deriding the game as nothing impressive and even down right bad when I can't think of many open world games of this nature. I'm fairly sure if they just called them demons instead of zombies a lot of people would be doing an about face because... well its not zombies and that seems to be a deciding factor in most peoples thinking. Doesnt matter that the tech and the potential alone in what it could offer an open world AAA sandbox.

Hell I may catch flak but I could give a shit less about Crash Bandicoot and was far more excited to see something like this game.

It's too bad Bend comes back after all this time and reveals Yet Another Zombie Game. It looks like a neat game, but I'm beyond tired of zombies at this point.

Hopefully Bend can differentiate it enough from TLOU in the coming months to put those concerns to bed - it is a bit odd that both this and God of War had strong TLOU vibes, but man - that number of NPCs in an open world that looks like that is a fucking remarkable tech feat. If for nothing else, major props to bend for that.

It's right in the thread title?
wasn't paying attention to it to be honest lol but i see now

I can understand some of the fatigue of the zombie genre. I mean, we saw at the very least 3 zombie games revealed within the last 24 hours(Days Gone, State of Decay 2 & Dead Rising 4). But for me, I don't really see it any different than when everything is a military shooter (but it looks like now we are at least trying to mix up the military shooter genre lately). Either way, I'm looking forward to Days Gone but not as much as God of War(I can't believe they got me interested again in this series) and Horizon.

Please note how it's only the people that are impressed with the game that are being incredibly rude to others in the thread. The people that aren't impressed are merely stating their opinion on the game. The people that are impressed are passing value judgements on other people in the thread for no good reason. World of difference.

The new title is likely a tribute to what made Zombies really popular.
Sorry George Romero

The very first Walking Dead comic.

The sound of an open world zombie game might sound 'been there, done that' but the level of destruction on that one building alone gave it a TLOU scripted feel which has me intrigued as to just how deep that goes in an open world... World.

So much negativity for a game that isn't even out yet. I, as many others are getting sick of zombie games, but this has my interest peaked. It looks intense. Demon Souls intense. The amount of zombies on the screen at 1 time was incredible. Even though I am a little burnt out on zombie games, I am MORE then willing to give this one a try.

"hello?" "this is vagina"
I thought it was interesting that the gameplay seemed to be more like controlling the flow and volume of a liquid rather than fighting a large number of individual zombies, they could do novel things with that concept, kind of like the entirely forgotten The Last Guy.

Not excited by the story though, yet. Have to admit I rolled my eyes at another fridged woman.

Maybe I'm just weird here as I may be more hyped for that than any other game after that showing. Looked stunning visually, great setting, and a unique main character. I mean how many AAA titles having you playing as a 1%er?

My only gripe, the gun sounds. Sounds like a damn potato shooter. lol

Same here. The way there was so little info on Bend is what makes this more appreciated IMO - comes out of nowhere and impresses in the few minutes it had. I definitely didn't expect the trailer to end up the way it did haha.

I want to see what kind of take they give on the zombie setting and scenario, and I trust Sony's studios well enough to take a chance on one. Not played a game by Bend but this looks really good so far.

Thought this looked fantastic. Looks like a Sons of Anarchy / Walking Dead crossover game.

The moment he climbed out the window on to the roof with Zombies just piling out of the window I was like oh shit that looks so good.
