Hmmm... you can smash the crates in the attic with the axe. But they contain jackshit.

Edit: and the spooky mannequin that sometimes appears. But also nothing.

I still can't find this on the store.

Edit: I finally found it.

You go to the deluxe edition, click the game page button then go to the demo.

There was no standard edition on any of the front pages or in the search.

Door. How do you get the phone?

Go through the secret door without watching the video. Get the fuse. Install it. Go upstairs and push the button.

If you wait to go up until later, the woman on the phone says something different

I'm assuming people have tried
just getting the axe and leaving through the back door?

I ran out of time and had to go to work, but that was next on my list.

I'm digging the demo, but it's a huge departure from the recent RE games. I'm surprised they called it 7 and didn't just call it Resident Evil and do a reboot style thing.

I'd be in the dick
Is there a purpose known for (items)
the axe or the finger? Tried breaking crates with the axe and got nothing. Thought we would be able to break down the border up door in the attic with it.

It's one entry and people are flipping out, wow. As someone who didn't care for the series yesterday, I'm actually mildly intrigued by this. Good job Capcom for stepping away from the awful 5/6 controls and tone, didn't think you had it in you!

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
If I remember correctly people were, at that point, tired of the old RE formula and so it was welcomed with open arms when the final RE4 was revealed.

That's not true. It was heavily negative, especially due to it being announced for the GC exclusively, and that Capcom revealed RE4 in scarier forms prior that (the hookman version etc).

Played and completed it and it wasn't scary at all and something is off, I'm hoping this is just a prologue of sorts through the eyes of those people and the game actually starts with a familiar face in RE style because this isn't working.

On the post-show they said you would play as a new character, someone who was 'normal' as opposed to the more 'superhero' characters that the RE cast have developed into. I don't know, unless Capcom is playing a big game of deception, I doubt we'll be playing as an old face, though they might show up in some capacity.

Huh..... After smashing the one mannequin in the attic, suddenly another one appeared. It almost feel on me, right at the corner where you find the tape.

I think not knowing this is the current state of things on the internet

It might be a good idea for someone with posting privileges to make a thread about solving the demo. Its a pain looking through this one since so many people are talking about their impressions or just trying to navigate the wonky PSN store and find the demo.

How long did it last? I would up getting punched by the red button. As soon as I turned my back on the attic stairs, boom.

I hugged the wall, got to the TV room and played the tape and then stopped it not long after. After that I was fine to run around but the phone never rang again. I was able to finish the demo by
going through the backdoor.

Revisionist history. While there may have been people who reacted negatively, they were not a majority. A lot of people thought the series was starting to get stale and recycled and it was time for a refresh. The only negativity that really surronded the game was Sony fans who didn't want to get a GC. The actual game itself was very much embraced by the majority of people, and almost universally loved until recent years, when a lot of 'old school' fans decided to turn against the newer style.

considering 'nobody' liked RE6, people were begging for the series to change, and many felt the RE lore had become baggage, I'm very surprised at the reaction to this.

I'll just take your post as an opportunity to address the number of posts in this thread bemused by the discrepancy between a fanbase wanting change then throwing a tantum when they get it.

These two camps are almost certainly not the same people.

I don't see how you can rag on capcom when they're taking the series in a bolder and more focused horror direction. and it's not like they've even binned all the lore because they've kept the number.

Speaking for myself, and basing my opinion on having played the demo extensively- It's just not fun. RE is and always has been fun.

Played it.

It's a neat expansion of the PT concept.

Doesn't feel like Resident Evil though. Could be something interesting regardless.

was it the usual ending? or did you make it

Got 3 endings. I really like it. The man/son isn't as scary as Lisa from P.T, but that
woman
in the ending looks terrifying.

The person on the phone sounds like
Ada Wong
.

Done. Let me first to say that I was a cynic of this morning's footage, and to be honest, the game demo doesn't really change my impression that it wants to ape the PT/Amnesia/Outlast brand of survival horror gameplay, which is the last thing I wanted in RE. It's okay for what it does, building tension and giving hit or miss jump scares (more misses), as these games are wont to do, but there nothing that particularly stands out from genre peers. As people have already said, this wasn't particularly scary or anything.

But there are 3 more things I noticed that made me reserve judgement. First of all, it's incredibly clear that we will get weapons in the game. The set up of the RE1 style limited inventory system, the fact that the inventory seems it could get larger, dpad shortcuts and reticule/aim assist options. Secondly, this is literally that pre title splash segment of the game. All the REs have that moment of disquiet leading to that one moment you encounter your first zombie, and things carry on from there. Thirdly, the opening level feels a bit like a puzzle box in structure, with how you go around collecting random odd bits and ends to try and progress.

Which all makes me feel like what they're actually doing with this game is making a modern RE1, except in first person mode, and that makes me slightly more hopeful if so. I don't need to be a Leon Kennedy and go surplexing every other zombie, but i do feel that a very big part of the classic games was the constant management of your resources and the choice of fight or flight. Not a run and hide kind of survival horror. I'm not a fan of the view point from the start and the demo didn't convince me entirely, and I feel there were other ways they could've achieved the same effect in a third person mode, but I don't deny that it is one of the easier ways to achieve the sense of claustrophobia they seem to want to go for.

I really really want to be excited for RE7 but this honestly was not the direction I wanted. I did not like Michael Bay's RE6 but going from generic explosion shooter to generic FPS overly dark flash light scare game isn't it either.

Will be holding my final judgement for the full game but the other games like this style have absolutely 0 appeal to me so this going that direction is pretty heart breaking as a a person who calls RE their favorite game/franchise.

p. I don't need to be a Leon Kennedy and go surplexing every other zombie.

Ditto. I'm over this aspect of the post RE4 gameplay too.

Honestly as a few others have said...its actually not really scary at all. More odd than anything except for 1 or 2 expected creep factors.
Thats kind of good as resident evil tends to be horror setting but not all that dreadfully creepy like silent hill

They could have made this a spin-off, RE:VR or just a new IP.

Why a numbered RE entry

Because Capcom wanted to try and do something different and got good ideas?

I actually think this is a great idea myself, it's nice to see Capcom trying something different and new. I've spent around two hours with this and trying different things and I can see the potential in this and how it can be very similar to the older titles but darker in certain aspects due to the immersion and technology this game brings. I am excited.

The idea of older BOWs, such as lickers, prawling around the environment and hearing them and other creepy crawlies.

This is a really great addtion to the series, Now I hope the full game strips out all the awful combat and terrible staples from the previous games so Resident Evil can finally become the first person horror point and click game it was destined to be.

Shit man, imagine this style with things such as Crimson heads, Lickers, a programmed Tyrant hunting/looking for you.

That stuff brings pure terror!

All I know from Sony's conference is that I terribly want Death Stranding and Resident Evil 7. I'm in love with the music tracks they chose for their trailers, and I'm digging the vibes of both.

What a time to be alive.

What were your endings?

1. Trying to escape through the back door

2. Phone call "moon, moon"

3. Phone call with different dialogue.

The trailer showcases lots of very interesting scenarios, and endings that are defiantly in the demo. It's just a matter of people finding it. I'm going to try to set my PS4 to June 1st 2017, or 2014.

The man only spawns if you have open space behind you. It's possible to make it down to the TV and play the video after getting the phone call, and doing so will actually "disable" the man.

I think most people who hate it is in the sense of a RE game...did you like Outlast ? this is similar, from the short demo anyway...its good in the Amnesia/Outlast/Slender man type of games.

This. Since when RE was part of this kind of games?

Back to the root it was supposed to be like RE1, 2, 3 and CV mechanics. Not walking, grabbing items, running and hiding. Where are the limited bullets? the herbs? the writing machine? the protagonists?

Hope there will be a Evil Within 2 (obviously better than the first) and give to Capcom a lesson of how do you make a RE game.

I'm on the PS Store on my work PC and only see Add To Wish List available where Download should be. I have PS+ and everything...

Is this only downloadable from the console or did I somehow miss my window?

Looked kinda nice, but the teaser/demo for RE7 was a bit too derivative and didn't at all remind me of any RE before it. Felt like I was playing something deeply inspired by Outlast or other intentionally visually-restricted horror games on PC. I mean, that has to be one of the worst flashlights ever put into a video game...like it's powered with a watch battery. I did like the interactive take on found footage, though. Just seems like this should have been a new IP rather than RE7, but I suppose there's a chance that it's just the very introduction while we'll see actual BSAA/S.T.A.R.S.-types show up to follow on these events.
