Where are you getting that there aren't any towns?

They just confirmed in an interview that the game will have no towns. They clarified that it's a Hyrule in ruins and they took direct inspiration from the world of the NES LOZ. They did confirm that there will be a handful of stray NPCs throughout the world but no towns or villages in the traditional sense. Also, they claimed that link will not have any kind of partner and will be exploring alone for the entire game.

From the Treehouse thread.

So happy by the lack of towns. Nintendo only made one good town in Majora's Mask, and that was actually the protagonist of the game, so it's better to have a Metroid like Zelda for me regarding atmosphere.

No towns or villages, what.

But we saw some villagers who were working in the fields when the game was revealed, no?

Please remember that the Wii U is PS3/360 level, so HD towns in that machine are impossible, like FF13 demonstrated.

Wish the game had colors like that, looks like Majora's Mask

Towns have been disappointing in Zelda since Majora's Mask. I'm not too bummed about it.

They are really going back to the core of Zelda, and finally bringing that into 3D for the first time, and finally breaking away from the Ocarina of Time formula.

I'm really digging this. I think it looks awesome.

I like how they managed to redefine and bring it closer to the core of the series at the same time. GG Aonuma. GG.

I feel like this game is going to feel very empty, a total ghost town.

I'm picturing the areas between bosses in Shadow of the Colossus at this point, plus enemies.

Good, no towns, no dumb shops where I have to steal shit cause rupees are dumb and who the fuck has rupees and dumb cuckoos when Hyrule is in ruins.

My hype is negative right now. No towns...

Nintendo needs to convince me to buy this. Everything I saw so far was disappointing.

Kinda makes sense, no?
Besides, as long as there is enough content and a good story, it shouldn't be too much of a problem, really.

EDIT: I expect there will be small outposts, campsites, and whatnot, at least.

It's not as if this game looks like a XB1/PS4 game without towns. It looks like a PS3/360 game, without towns.

Impossible.. that's a ridiculous thing to say when it comes to games.

I'm fine with the lack of towns, but the size of the map relative to the amount of unique points of interest still worries me.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

This might be true - but honestly we have seen like less than a percent of the game and Nintendo wont show us everything when the game wont be out another 9-12 months. They still want to have exciting announcements about the game for the next couple months.

as much as I love the game so far, no towns is a big downer

this really does look a bit like MGSV, with ups and downs

but generally, this is the biggest step zelda has taken since OoT, and I believe it will be fantastic

This game is totally incredible. Complete shift of direction for modern Zelda. It's taking a pretty huge risk, but it looks fantastic. It's like the LoZ that I never knew I wanted.

Considering most Zelda towns besides Termina and maybe Skyloft aren't exactly anything special to begin with I can't say I'm disappointed by their absence. Digging the isolationist feeling they're going for.

Aonuma refused to do any comments about towns and the player must find out while playing. (thats what he told to one of the IGN guys)

Oh, phew, thank god

Like I just need 1 or 2 towns. Something like a kakoriko village, not even as full as Skyward Sword's skyloft or MM's clock town, is good enough

What the fuck? How are you not going to have towns and villages in a game world like this? That is damn disappointing.

Maybe they're trying to recreate the feel of the first game. Perhaps, at times, you'll stumble upon a random cottage, hut, small camp, hidden dwelling, etc... Hyrule looks to be in some state of ruin, so it would make sense that locations like Kakariko Village and Hyrule Castle Market may be abandoned and overtaken by nature.

Ask me which Shakespeare novel is best
The no towns thing suck. Windfall and Skyloft are my most memorable places in their respective games. We'll at least be seeing a Zora's Domain and a Goron City/Village right? :/

Damn, that looks fantastic. Though I think I'll go on a media blackout from here on out to keep the rest of the game fresh for me.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
No towns is very disappointing. Makes the length of time this game is taking to come out even more confusing now we know there isn't a female Link needing all new dialogue and armor too.

The games somewhat lacklustre graphical look also makes me think the NX is going to be a hybrid with the ARM chips speculated a while ago.

What if you need a time stone or something not unlike what we saw in Skyward Sword to literally find towns that existed in the past as part of Hyrule? That would be pretty cool.

While I like towns in Zelda games, I'm definitely interested in seeing how they handle not having them in this game. They said they were going for a different 3D Zelda and they meant it.

Since the world is so big there has to be some quests /npc around to give you something to do? If not your just exploring the vast lands?

Game looks good but can't say I'm too impressed by it. If it released last year or releasing this year I would be impressed, but at this point not really. Nothing else for me to see, it's great game to show but disappointed that this game is all Nintendo had to show.

Horizon might be my game of e3 again this year
