Breath of the Wild is the official subtitle for Zelda U/NX, first gameplay trailer

Hold on....

Did you guys see that horse footage?

Is it just me (and my friends) or did that look much better, more crisp, more polished and detailed and colourful than all the other footage shown?

I thought the trailer looked alright, some of the animal animations were a bit too choppy for me but when they started playing wowzers! After Skyward Sword I jus stopped getting super excited for Zelda games, this however has taken me back in time!!!!

I love how you are just mystically born/awake and just go! It's what so many people have been asking for since forever!

So far I am extremely pleased with what has been shown and I can not wait to explore this world!

So now we can pretty much agree that anyone who says this is just a translation of standard open world mechanics into the Zelda franchise is a bonafide jackass

This looks like a train wreck.

I don't want Zelda walking simulator. I would play Fallout or The Witcher if I wanted to bore myself.

That shit just won E3.

Setting fire to the environment to ride the updraft into the air and popping bomb arrows on enemies.

Nothing about this game is winning E3 2008 let alone E3 2016.

We're in a post-Souls post-Witcher world, this looks and feels incredibly dated and unimpressive.

I know some of you will take whatever Zelda fix you can get but be objective and look at this game. Do you really think this is going to win back lost fans and make Nintendo relevant to kids and teens again? Because I would be very worried right now if that's your goal.

Souls being a game that made FROM Software relevant to teens and kids.

They said something about everything we've seen so far is not even 2% of the whole game or something. I misheard something there, right? I mean how huge is that game?

So good. I love this dark souls style "you are in the world, now play and survive" and the minimalistic introduction.
I'm just not sure how to feel about the weapon durability, i hope you can find some long lasting weapon.

I can't get over how BAD this looks. It bums me out. Especially that snow environment. Oh my goodness. Textures are about universally terrible, LOD in the distance (even relatively close distance) is really rough, lighting is very, very flat, etc. I guess I shouldn't have expected much since the hardware is quite dated, but I can't deny that I'm still disappointed regardless. In the distance really does look Gamecube era rough a lot of times. Close proximity looks decent but after the last few years of amazing looking games, I'm bummed.

Tell you what, though, I'm really excited to see it on NX. And even if I have to get it on Wii U, like if NX is too expensive for me or something, the game looks really fun to play. It's right up my alley. I don't like a huge amount of combat in games that aren't completely combat-based. This looks more adventure-y.

yea i have the same feeling, honestly can't see how anyone thinks this looks beautiful.

Less than 2%. Probably SLIGHTLY exaggerated but still, this game is damn big.

Very disappointed. This isn't Zelda.

Except it very much is. It's different, yes, but it definitely feels like Zelda to me. You can change a whole bunch and still be true to the core of the series. In fact this feels very much like a true sequel to Zelda 1 with 20 years of technological advancements inbetween.

There are things I don't particularly care for right now, like chests containing nothing but generic pick-ups. Shrines feeling out of place (I hope there are more organic puzzle areas instead of these literal puzzle boxes).

Overall I'm extremely pleased with what I'm seeing and I can't wait to finally play it. I love most Zelda games, but this is exactly the type of fresh entry the series needed.

l'm agree. lt looks like an NES gaem if NES was cut in alf! Thank you for being voice of reason unlike ninty fanboy who think this look good!

I guess I feel like they took inspiration from the wrong games.

I wanted more dark souls influence and less assassins Creed influence..

I wanted more complexity in dungeon design and combat.

I know you don't always get what you want but I worry this will be a big empty world full of boring things to do.

Did you even enjoy Windwaker/Twilight Princess considering you said the gamecube was your favorite Nintendo console?

What are you seeing from this game that would indicate that there will not be something similar for you

They will not show dungeon or story today

Sure. But then I read this IGN interview:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/06...-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-hands-on-preview

“We talked a little bit about the idea of density, how dense to make this big world,” Aonuma explained. The team realized that filling the vast landscape with things to do and explore would be a lot of work. As the team experienced moving around on horseback or climbing up to a high place to paraglide down, they realized that their desire to see what's ahead of the next horizon grew. At the same time, the team realized some moments should be subtle as you explore. “We realized that it's OK if there's pocket of emptiness,” he said.

I play Zelda for the puzzles, the dungeons, and the boss battles. I think walking from one side of some huge map to the other is a waste of time. I'm pretty sure the concept was invented by MMORPG designers to artificially inflate playtime and get more subscription dollars out of you. Why people have decided to praise this as a great game mechanic is beyond me. A big reason why the Wind Waker is the worst console Zelda is because you spend so much time just sailing from one side of the empty sea to the other.

I love Zelda precisely because it does not embrace the conventions of WRPGs. A genre I find terribly boring.

I....hmmmmm.... mechanically it looks interesting, but outside of the fire mechanic I imagine the response would be very different if this wasn't Zelda

Have you watched any of the gameplay? At all?

It doesn't look dated. It's interactive in a way that Souls and Witcher aren't, it's still a Zelda game, a very different genre from those. It may look dated technically (it doesn't) but the fact that these additions were already in other games doesn't really say anything. It's just normal to pick a mechanic from another genre, Souls itself took things from other games. Every series does it.
What if the next Witcher implements a good combat like the one we're seeing from this Zelda? Would that be considered dated or just very cool?

People who are disparaging the game aren't watching the majority of this stream. There are a lot of interesting elements that aren't instantly obvious that go above and beyond what The Witcher and Souls series do.
