So, GAF, are we still hating on Miyamoto or can we love him again now?

To be fair, he was asked how involved he was in the game on the stream. He basically said he was extremely hands off; he was there for making sure the nature felt... well natural, and a few other bits.

That being said though, the small little bits that people seem to be freaking out about (the wind spreading the fire etc.) do seem like touches that would have his fingerprints all over them.

Eiji Aonuma should be on the list of all time greats and should be seen as a person who is on equal footing with Miyamoto, instead of someone who's seen as a guy in Miyamoto's shadow.

It will suck if people start giving Miyamoto credit for the amazing project we see here.

Some things will probably get tedious:
- Weapon degradation
- Needing arrows

Should add an unlimited version of basic arrows or something.

How much did these two things become tedious to you in Wind Waker?

Someone needs to make a gif of that bonus clip of Link gliding down the mountain, dropping down and snowboarding, then ramping it into the air right back to gliding with the shield still on his feet.

At least in the demo, arrow drops were pretty much everywhere. And you can take arrows that were shot at you, like in Twilight Princess.

I think this is the first game since Dark Souls 1 that might be able to completely suck me in for unhealthy amount of hours. Everything I've seen from this game just makes me think "I need this in my life". I might need to make a point of not watching any shrine or dungeon related footage, it might be worth it to stay spoiler-free for this game.

They both deserve credit. Everyone in this game deserves praise so far.

Hell I'd go so far in saying the people who decided to show nothing but Zelda and Pokemon deserve to be praised.

Thank you so much for this writeup OP. I missed pretty much all of the streams so this was a great recap. Everything I'm hearing sounds great. Also glad to hear towns ARE actually in the game, I saw the thread earlier claiming they weren't and it really bummed me out.

I normally can't stand games where you have to keep watching your character's hunger level. I really hope that isn't too annoying. It's one of the reasons I don't have patience for the Sims anymore.

This game sounds incredible and so well-thought out, I love all the bits about it being similar to NES Zeldas where it just drops you in. It's become my most anticipated title period.

There is no hunger level as far as I could tell. Food is needed to restore health though

To be fair he's blamed for ruining Paper Mario because he proposed a mere suggestion. He wasn't in anyway involved in that one. At the very least with breath of the wild you can clearly see his influence. If anything he should be thanked for giving the team so much freedom in what they create but he was still on top to ensure the Nintendo polish.

I won't comment on the Paper Mario situation since I don't really play them, but he seems more hit or miss for me at this point. We know definitively that he was deeply involved in Star Fox Zero and it just doesn't work for me at all, though I did like Star Fox Guard quite a bit.

But again, he probably hits more then he misses still, and the details to BotW shows that.

What if Miyamoto is actually involved in this project.

... Yeah, he is.

Yyyyep lol. Seriously, no words.

This game looks very good. Love the visual design as well.

Too bad I won't be able to play it.
Why?

In case you missed it, here's most (?) of the map that we know of.

The brown part in the middle is the entire map we were shown today. Red and blue thingies are markers.
Yeah there's no way that the entire map is only 12x TP. Maybe the area we saw today was 12x TP lol

Aonuma still deserves more credit because he doesn't get enough. I'd hate for him to go his entire career without getting his props as a lead designer. Give the man a lifetime award at the next Geoff Keighley's. Also let him breathe and work on other properties after Zelda comes out. Imagine a Metroid headed by him.

Also, that title. It's gonna be hard to train ourselves to not write "Zelda Wii U" instead of "Breath of the Wild" on instinct

Game looks amazing!!! Just finished watching most of the stream (skipping around). One thing I found interesting was that I didn't notice Link roll once. Finally bring jumping and climbing to Zelda, and rolling seems out? Very interesting and kinda sad..I could have just missed it though!

Does anyone have a time where the fight with the rock monster took place in the stream? I remember some people commenting on it during thr stream.

I sold my WiiU, as I had to downsize for a big move. Maybe if NX is enticing and I have some extra money to spend, but as it stands, I won't really be able to afford a new console. However, if I do, I'm definitely getting the game. This Zelda is definitely a system seller.

Nice work ! :D

This game has really the potential to be the greatest Zelda ever! The wait until next year is going to be really painful and slow...

I'll keep dreaming about a timed demo for our sad, abandoned Wii U's

Zelda is mostly the opposite of that. No markers at all in the world, you see something you figure out how to reach it. Sometimes you have to solve a series of puzzles to get it, Sometimes you wont even have the item needed to reach it so you mark it and save it for later. YOU do this., you are the one actively searching, not some glowing line, not a stupid marker,

Yeah, there's definitely not going to be any hand-holding markers or waypoints in this game.

Looks great! I've been getting so tired of what Zelda has become. Almost every single one has tried to recapture the magic of OoT. This looks so different. Can't wait!

I'm really confused, sorry. Please answer me! Can we expect a Zora's Domain and Goron City or no?

NPC's and Towns weren't "removed" from the demo. Bill Trinen stated that the plateau opening area is the "jumping off" point for the game. Once you are off the plateau you begin to encounter the real world at large.

They stated that everything you do in the opening area encompasses less than 2% of the total game. Based on what we've seen from the map, they aren't kidding.

I'm pretty sure having that many huge gifs in the OP is just going to crash the phone of anyone trying to read this on mobile. Or at least absolutely destroy their data plan.

I've only played like 1 hour of that Wii U remastered Zelda, and that's all of the Zelda series I've played. So, I don't know, but I absolutely dislike weapon degradation and inventory management with limited arrows etc.

At least in the demo, arrow drops were pretty much everywhere. And you can take arrows that were shot at you, like in Twilight Princess.

Hopefully they make this demo available for everyone.

Zelda series is surely among the most infamous for having ever present things telling you where to go. That is an important thing to leave behind, even if they are not completely doing it.

edit: Still, Metroid Prime told you were to go all the time, the key is not telling you how.

Nintendo should throw Mario Club all up in this motherfucker and release this demo to the public. Charge for it and I'll pay even, pull a Kojima or a Polyphony Digital dammit. Hide it behind TP HD, I don't care. Call it "Breath of the Wild: the 1%", to enfact how little of the map the Plateau area represents, and let us dive in.

So what? Just because it's marked doesn't mean it's telling you how to actually access it. Even the Souls games give you a dose of developer-left tips/hints. It's not smart to give the player absolutely zero, IMO.

I was feeling it at first but the more I think about the more i realized, i dont even like most open world rpgs, such as the elders scroll series, and fallouts.

I liked Dragon's Dogma combat, but that was it.

Someone mentioned it in another thread, but the game lacks focus. I just dont have the time to micro manage stuff anymore.

I mean some direction is acceptable in an open space and you do have the choice to ignore it anyway if you just want to get into things. It's an ideal mix.

And to think we have only seen like 10% of the game because map is like the size of Russia. Game of the show from me. Just absolutely majestic stuff. This game proves that you don't need the most realistic graphics and fancy story but rather a perfect combination of gameplay and artstyle.
