So this is really cool of Bethesda. Thankfully I own the Legendary Edition!

One question though, what is different about the SE version over the Legendary? Is it 64 bit? Does it have any new content?

Wait, you are excited about something you don't know about?

Sure, it's free, LOL! And I love Skyrim so more support for it is great. Also I just got home from work, still trying to catch up on today's E3 news....

Well, I bet it'll be able to adress more RAM natively, which is good for mods. It'll probably also have proper multicore support, which is also good for mods. They've also added in a new lighting engine.

We don't know if it is 64 bit as far as I know. We are getting better native visuals and extra ingame effects. Watching a video would show it off better.

What's the difference between the remaster and the modded version you likely have installed on your PC already?

Yes, the average person loves installing ENB mods for new shaders and post processing. Would your release strategy for this to be a giant tutorial for every single person on how to configure dozens of graphical packages? How have modders been at modding in dx11 and a 64bit engine for the game?

Well, I never bought the DLC because most of the time it was more expensive than the full Legendary Edition. Not for me then.

Yeah, I just saw the official trailer:

Quite a difference from the PS3/XB360 to the PS4/XB1, much improved. Not too sure how much it will improve the PC version due to existing mods though. Still, if it is 64 bit and with better built in graphics coupled with engine upgrades it could quickly become the new defacto PC version for future mods. Cool.

nice of them but what about us console plebs ? i bought all your dlc too what about me bethesda ?

you basically answered the question yourself. :p
joking aside, i think it might be technically more difficult to check what DLCs a console player owns. it must be pretty easy via steam api as it has been done before to offer discounts for remakes/remasters etc.

hmm all i have the base game, I'd have to spend $60 on dlc to get the free upgrade :/

edit: o legendary is $27, wonder if itll go lower during steam sale

fuck that shit. Why do ps3/360 owners get shafted? They paid full price for their games too.

If I had to guess, I imagine it's a combination of the fact the upgrade is much less significant for PC players, and also that they need as many PC folks with the new version as possible or there's not going to be anyone to author mods for the consoles.

PC players can already get the kind of graphical enhancements with the base game they've bought years ago. It's one of the draws of the platform. Asking for money for something that for PC is pretty much a "patch" and 3 mods away is just silly.

Unless you want a PS3 version that plays at 5 fps with all the enhancements that will come to PS4, as they paid for the PS3 game.

I was kind of negative on this announcement but this news is really great.

Been a long time since I've played Skyrim and this would probably get me to replay it.

I just saw Chesko, who has some of the best mods in Frostfall/Campfire plans to stop modding after a final update to Frostfall. So that'll be interesting. Frostfall is my favorite mod, but it needs Script Extender so it's unlikely to be on console anyway.

There are just three DLCs, right? I'm pretty sure that's how many i've acquired over the years. I never had the legendary edition but I think I bought each dlc on sale for super cheap at one point or another.

There's a free texture pack but I don't know if that counts? Anyways, I have three as well. Hope that qualifies.

Curious if mods will require retooling to work with the special edition.

Yeah I was wondering that as well, I'd guess some will and some won't. But I really don't have a good idea one way or another. Maybe Skyrim script extender would need an update, which would put a lot of mods out of commission.

I'm just waiting for Gopher to explain what the 64 bit change will entail now. :p

Just saw SKSE does indeed need an update, the authors said they will be providing one.

Man this is going to break a shit ton of my favorite mods isn't it?

Most of the mods I use are reliant on the Script Extender, but since this update seems to be more performance related (64 Bit), and graphical improvements.

I think most of the landmass and quest add-on mosts shouldn't break (Falskaar, Helgen Reborn, Wyrm's Tooth, etc)

This might mean I no longer need to use Skyrim Texture replacement if the new Bethesda texture upgrades are better than the old ones I had.

Although the world textures may have been improved and things like better snow and water shaders have been added, as well as the inclusion of godrays. I wonder if they also touched up the character, monster, equipment, and item textures as well.

Makes me wonder what the new system requirements for the SE will be compared to the original version. I'll assume it's somewhat comparable to Fallout 4.

I guess I just have to wait and see, but I wonder if it will actually look any better than modded Skyrim. I've got an old CPU & GPU, but I've gotten running pretty well ... I'm scared of breaking it by upgrading lol

god damn, 64 bit is fantastic news. As nice as SKSE is having native support for utilizing more than 3.1GB of memory is a boon.

I wonder if the Legendary Edition will be on the summer Steam sale next week. Could be a cheaper way to get the remaster.

Of what importance is a 64-bit version to modding? More stable higher ugrids? More objects like grass and distant scenery could be rendered at once?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but the main benefit I know of for 64-bit is that you can use more than 4gb of RAM, which helps with stuff like High Res textures.

Access to more memory, iirc Skyrim 32-bit shit the bed at 3.1GB RAM utilization. Better textures and LOD mods should be possible.

All 32-bit applications will shit the bed at 2GB unless LAA which will push it to 3GB. There should be no newly created 32-bit applications. I don't know of any reason why you'd compile for 32-bit instead of 64-bit.

not sure if this has been answered already but what if I buy the legendary edition on the next steam sale, will I be able to get the SE?

edit: after spending some time in this thread I thing it does
